Karen Pirie star Mark Rowley has found his next major role in a new ITV thriller titled The Dark.
In this rephrased version, a six-part television show unfolds, inspired by GR Halliday’s first novel, “From the Shadows.” The narrative primarily revolves around a remote Scottish village experiencing unrest due to a murderer terrorizing the wilderness within their community.
In the main cast of The Nevers, it’s Laura Donnelly playing Detective Monica Kennedy, and Rowley portrays Detective Connor Crawford.
When a young man’s body is discovered in a chilling manner within the picturesque Scottish wilderness, Detective Monica Kennedy suspects it’s the start of a dreadful series of events that will affect the peaceful countryside community deeply.
As paranoia intensifies, hidden suspicions and secrets begin to surface among the locals, revealing that there’s a serial killer lurking within their midst. With her extensive background in handling humanity’s darkest aspects, Monica Kennedy finds herself drawn into an escalating game of cat-and-mouse with a sly killer. It falls upon her shoulders to thwart this menace before any more lives are lost.
However, whenever her past resurfaces, a wave of doubt overtakes her about her decision-making skills. Could it be her choices that pose the greatest danger not just to herself but also to her loved ones?

Together with Donnelly and Rowley, Helen Baxendale (known for shows like Noughts + Crosses and Cuckoo) and Emun Elliott (famous for The Gold and Sexy Beast), portray the parents who are alarmed to find Detective Monica back on their doorstep once more, this time investigating a case connected to their son who has gone missing.
The cast is completed by Rona Morrison (Our Ladies, Macbeth), Cal MacAninch (Trigger Point, Downton Abbey), Stella Gonet (The Salisbury Poisonings, Breeders), Phil McKee (The Rig, Professor T), Tunji Kasim (Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Nancy Drew) and Catherine McCormack (Lockerbie: a Search for Truth, 28 Weeks Later). In simpler terms, these six actors have been added to the cast.
The series, which was developed by Matt Harley and is being created by Poison Pen Studios, has started shooting scenes in Glasgow and its surrounding areas.
Star Donnelly, a loyal fan of detective-themed shows, recognized the unique potential in “The Dark” after reading its initial script, having been crafted by executive producer Ben Stephenson.
I’m genuinely thrilled about collaborating with Poison Pen, ITV, and an exceptional ensemble to produce something distinctive, exhilarating, and unique. My aim is to bring out the singular, captivating, and intricate personality of Detective Inspector Monica Kennedy.
Working alongside Poison Pen, ITV, and a top-notch cast is a dream come true for me! Together, we’re set to create something extraordinary and pulse-pounding while exploring the distinctive, compelling, and multi-layered essence of DI Monica Kennedy.
