Katie Thurston is sharing positive news amid her cancer journey.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: Having bravely faced stage four metastatic breast cancer since my initial diagnosis in February, I recently underwent a follow-up scan post-cancer treatment. To my immense relief and gratitude, the results showed that my tumors have diminished in size.
Today’s scan results show that my tumors are DECREASING in size! I shared this fantastic news on my Instagram post dated July 7th, expressing immense relief as well.
Despite the promising progress of her treatment now, Katie shared that it had taken her several months to find help and initiate the treatment process.
She shared that she was diagnosed about five months ago with breast cancer, but in truth, she had discovered a lump around a year earlier. At the age of 33, without any family history of the disease, she never imagined it could be cancer, yet it was.
Over time, this situation forced her to make numerous decisions on the fly, as she found herself needing to adjust with her worsening condition. During the wait for IVF treatment and participation in a clinical trial, she eventually needed to change course when her cancer advanced to stage four.
She shared that, given the current situation, her breast cancer requires lifelong treatment as there is no known cure. However, she emphasized that ongoing funding for medical research, particularly for breast cancer survivors (#metavivors), offers hope for a prolonged, healthy existence.
Leading up to the important scan last week, Katie shared how she had been feeling.
Katie shared in her Instagram video on July 3 that July 7 is a crucial follow-up scan to assess how the medications are affecting her tumor. Ideally, she’d like to see either no increase or even a decrease in its size.
When my regular scans or check-ups arrive and pass, I take the following 28 days to almost completely forget that I’m battling cancer.
During the update, Katie, who was on a Greek holiday with her husband Jeff Arcuri, went on to say, “I believe that dealing with cancer requires a change in one’s thought process. It’s not about being overly optimistic per se, but it’s about altering your perspective.
She stated, “While on holiday in Greece, I took pleasure in the wine, the desserts, and the precious moments I’m creating. After all, why live if not for today, if not for this very life?

In the summer of 2024, Katie Thurston found a small lump in her breast and initially thought it might be related to her period or exercise. However, since the lump persisted, she decided to get it examined. Despite expecting it to be harmless, the results showed otherwise.
In a heartfelt Instagram video posted on March 18, 2025, I shared that I had been referred to a specialist for a breast ultrasound, followed by a mammogram and a biopsy. The wait for the results was nerve-wracking, but when they confirmed it was breast cancer, it felt like the worst moment of my life.
As someone without a family history of breast cancer, I never imagined this could happen to me at 34 years old. The news was devastating and shocking. But now, two weeks later, I’ve gone through a rollercoaster of emotions – despair, anger, sadness, denial, but also strength, purposefulness, and readiness.
I cried a lot in the past two weeks, but I’m determined to turn this experience into something positive by documenting my journey. I found comfort in reading about others who have been through similar situations, so I hope to be that source of inspiration for others. This is day one of sharing my story, and it marks the beginning of a challenging yet hopeful journey. Accepting my reality has been the hardest step, but I’m ready to fight this. #BreastCancerAwareness #FightLikeAGirl
Five months following her engagement to comedian Jeff Arcuri, whom she met through Instagram in 2024’s spring, Katie received her diagnosis. Initially, the pair had envisioned wedding plans and starting a family, but instead, their focus shifted towards treatment and recovery.
To preserve potential future children, they froze embryos due to concerns about cancer treatments affecting fertility. In March 2025, Katie shared on her Instagram Stories that out of the 17 eggs retrieved for IVF, only six were successfully fertilized, three made it to the blastocyst stage, and after genetic testing, they managed to freeze two embryos—one Grade B and one Grade C. This is the typical outcome when undergoing IVF, she explained.
Katie also mentioned that she and Jeff might consider surrogacy in the future, emphasizing the importance of their health. She encouraged her followers not to judge celebrities who opt for surrogacy, as personal circumstances often remain unknown. Yet, she added that they are comfortable with the possibility of remaining a childless couple.
Katie and Jeff have decided to go ahead with their plans to get married on March 22, 2025 in New York, as Katie moved across the country following several months of long-distance dating. She shared with Us Weekly that the wedding took place in the backyard of their apartment, attended by their parents, officiant, and newly adopted dog Charlie.
Katie explained how emotional the process had been due to Jeff’s chemotherapy and the uncertainties surrounding his health. One night, Jeff proposed the idea of getting married immediately, saying it would demonstrate his commitment to her during these challenging times.
Although they plan to have a larger wedding in the future, Katie emphasized that Jeff’s impromptu proposal was a powerful demonstration of his enduring love.
For Jeff, there was also a practical reason for getting married—he wanted to be able to accompany Katie during her hospital visits and have the ability to refer to her as his wife in such circumstances. He told the outlet that he didn’t want to miss any part of this journey with her.
Just a few days after Jeff and Katie’s wedding, she revealed that a PET scan had discovered some tiny spots on her liver and that her cancer had progressed to stage 4. However, she expressed confidence in an Instagram video posted on March 28, 2025, stating, “Stage 4 can sound quite terrifying, and it is, but considering I am triple-positive and the liver spots are small and were detected early, I have a very positive outlook regarding my prognosis.
After learning about her stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis, Katie provided an update on her treatment strategy. She explained that the cancer found in her liver originated from her breast cancer, implying that the breast cancer would be the main focus of treatment. Initially, she was to undergo six rounds of chemotherapy.
However, just before starting this treatment, Katie received a surprising update. On April 4, 2025, she wrote on Instagram about her preparedness for the first chemo session but had to postpone it due to new pathology results. The tests on her liver, breast, and lymph nodes showed that they were HER2 Negative, despite originally testing positive at Kaiser. She was only minutes away from taking steroids for chemotherapy preparation when she got the call. Instead of going through with chemo, she is meeting with her doctor to discuss the unexpected test results, additional tests needed, and implications for a revised treatment plan.
In light of these developments, Katie noted that it appears “chemo is no longer an option.” She added that while she should be happy about this news, the numerous updates to her diagnosis in just two months have been challenging for her. However, she believes that being thorough and seeking a second medical opinion has been crucial in her early cancer journey.
In her ongoing battle against cancer, Katie chooses to take each day as it comes. On March 31, 2025, she expressed her feelings on her Boobie Broadcast channel, saying, “Sometimes I question ‘what’s the point of my life?’ But regardless, this is my reality, and I must make the most of it. People say live like you’re dying, but now that I am, it becomes more challenging to put into practice. Yet, we are all moving closer to death each day, not in a morbid way, but as an inevitable aspect of life. So whether I have cancer or not, I am grateful for today. While there may be sad moments or days, I aim to appreciate my time and cherish it.”
She also offers her followers a vital piece of advice. On Good Morning America, she said, “Don’t hesitate. Be assertive. Get examined.” This could potentially benefit you in the long run.
Nearly two months in treatment, Katie shared another new reality.
She posted on Instagram on June 1, 2025, that she’s having memory issues. When asked by customs officials where she had come from, she couldn’t recall the answer, responding, ‘I can’t remember.’ or ‘I don’t remember at this moment.’
She too disclosed having a minor argument with her spouse, but couldn’t recall all the specifics clearly.
She remembered saying to Jeff, “This seems familiar,” to which he asked, “When was this?” She replied with certainty, “I’m not sure of the exact time, but I feel certain that it happened before!
She commented, “We can find humor in the situation today.” She continued, “Cancer is truly awful. At times, I think, ‘Snap out of it.’ But at other moments, I say, ‘It’s okay to feel down about it. Cancer is just terrible.’
