Katy Perry is roaring forth with a new era of music.
Katy Perry recently released her first new song since announcing her split and broken engagement with Orlando Bloom over the summer. The song is considered to be one of her most emotionally open and honest yet.
Katy Perry’s new music video for “Bandaids,” released on November 6th, opens with her doing dishes when she accidentally drops what looks like an engagement ring down the drain. While reaching for it, she hints at a recent breakup, singing about giving her all to the relationship: “I swear I tried everything / I left no stone unturned / It wasn’t something you did, but something you didn’t do / You were physically present, but emotionally absent.”
Katy wasn’t just honest in the beginning of the song; she also suggested why she and her partner broke up.
She went on to say she’d become accustomed to being disappointed by him, and that apologies like flowers wouldn’t fix things now. She realized she’d been foolishly hoping he would be different, but it was like putting a temporary fix on a serious problem – a bandage on a broken heart.
The music video shows Katy experiencing several painful moments while she sings, like cutting her hand on a garbage disposal and falling from a tree. However, as the song suggests, the relationship it’s about wasn’t just filled with pain – she felt other emotions too.
She sings about remembering happier times, saying they were genuine and didn’t need to be posed. She acknowledges that things were once ideal, but now they’ve fallen apart, leaving behind lingering pain and hurt feelings.
Throughout the song, she revealed more reasons for the split, explaining, “It shouldn’t be hard to simply ask how I’m doing. I’m desperately trying to fix things, but I’m slowly falling apart.”
Even though her past relationship had difficult moments, Katy—who shares 5-year-old daughter Daisy Dove with Orlando—says she doesn’t regret anything.

In the video, she sings that she’d make the same choices even if she could start over. As a train hurtles towards her, she spots a daisy, which gives her the courage to move out of the way. She then reflects, saying that the love they shared was ultimately worth it.
Okay, so earlier this week, Katy really threw everyone for a loop! She dropped a hint about a new single with this super striking photo – it was a close-up of her face, and it looked a little raw, with some scratches. She was wearing a simple white tee and a necklace spelling out her full name, Katheryn, which was a really personal touch. It definitely got everyone talking!

Before releasing “Bandaids,” Katy hadn’t put out new music since her album 143 in September 2024 – 143 is a quick way of saying “I love you.” A year after the album came out, Katy shared how much of an impact the last year had on her, and talked about what she was thinking while creating new songs.
In an Instagram post on September 22nd, the artist explained that her albums are like glimpses into her life and experiences, and she hopes listeners will find something relatable in her songs.
The “Firework” singer also referenced the “rollercoaster” she has been through over the years.
“Looking back at the past is crucial,” Katy explained. “It teaches us lessons – showing us what worked and what didn’t. Both our successes and failures hold value and help us improve.”
She told her fans she hopes they can continue to grow and learn together for many years, and ultimately look back with pride and contentment, knowing they gave their all, even in a world that isn’t perfect.
Read on to look back at Katy and Orlando’s love story through the years.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom first connected at an after-party for the Golden Globes in 2016. They met again a few days later at a fashion show hosted by Stella McCartney.

I was so excited to hear that Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom were spotted together! Apparently, they first connected backstage at Orlando’s play, The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey in Los Angeles. Then, just a couple of weeks later, I found out they all hung out at a birthday party for Robert Downey Jr.’s son, Exton – Orlando brought his son Flynn (whose mom is Miranda Kerr) along too. It’s lovely to see them all getting along so well!

Oh my gosh, it was spring when it finally happened! Perry and Bloom were officially together! I read somewhere – TopMob News, I think – that Katy absolutely loves how real Orlando is. She even started calling him her boyfriend! Can you believe it? It was everything!

The two attend the prestigious, star-studded fashion event but do not walk the red carpet together.

After photos appeared online showing Bloom and Selena Gomez together in Las Vegas, Perry quickly dismissed rumors of any cheating.
Perry encouraged people to focus on positive things instead of conspiracy theories, sharing a link to an article highlighting the actor’s charitable efforts. Gomez then shared Perry’s message with her own followers by retweeting it.

That same month, Perry shared the first picture of Bloom, featuring them relaxing on the steps of the Hotel du Cap Eden-Rock, which is located near the Cannes Film Festival.

They visited Disneyland Shanghai with his son, Flynn, and naturally, they went on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

The two celebrated the holiday with her family and his son Flynn.

Perry threw Bloom a surprise 40th birthday party in Palm Springs, California.

One year after first meeting, the couple went to the yearly Vanity Fair Oscars after-party. True to form, they didn’t pose for photos together on the red carpet.

The following month, Perry and Bloom split after about 10 months together.
To address speculation, Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry have confirmed they are taking some time apart to focus on themselves, but remain respectful and loving towards each other, according to a joint statement from their representatives.

By summer, Perry and Bloom were spotted kissing and cuddling at an Ed Sheeran concert in Los Angeles.

The duo greeted Pope Francis at the Vatican.

Oh my gosh, I was there! I saw David Bloom absolutely kill it in that revival of Killer Joe – you know, the play by Tracy Letts? It was at Trafalgar Studio 1 in London, and honestly, it was incredible. I couldn’t take my eyes off him!

The couple made their red carpet debut at the Global Ocean Gala, hosted by Prince Albert II of Monaco, at the Monte-Carlo Opera.

Days before her birthday, Perry and Orlando attended the amfAR Gala Los Angeles 2018.

Perry and Bloom announced their engagement on Valentine’s Day. She showed off her flower-shaped engagement ring—which has a striking red gemstone at its center—on Instagram, captioning the post “Full bloom.”

Perry debuted her baby bump in a music video for song “Never Worn White.”

The following year, the couple welcomed their first child together, daughter Daisy Dove Bloom.

Perry shared on Twitter that today marks one year since the birth of his daughter, Daisy Dove, writing, ‘Happy first Birthday my Daisy Dove, my love.’

I was so excited to hear Perry talking about plans for a big event on The Drew Barrymore Show! She said they’re still on, but finding the right place is proving tricky. Knowing her, it’s going to be amazing – she loves throwing huge, fun, and unforgettable parties, and I’m really hoping we get to see it happen soon!

The pair shared a kiss while at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London.

Katy Perry described her arguments with Orlando Bloom as quick and intense, but they resolve just as fast. She explained to Zane Lowe that they typically say ‘I love you’ and then quickly move past it.

I was so thrilled to see Bloom and Daisy Dove there cheering Perry on! It meant the world to have their support as she blasted off into space with that incredible all-female crew. It was a truly inspiring moment, and knowing they were there made it even more special.

Rumors started circulating that Perry and Bloom were splitting up as they spent more time separated while she was on tour.
