Kayla Nicole’s past relationship with Travis Kelce has made her strategic about playing the field.
In simpler terms, the sports commentator shared that since her long-lasting, often visible relationship officially ended in 2022, she now prefers to keep her romantic experiences private and out of public knowledge.
Kayla stated in her podcast “The Pre-Game” on April 3, “I’ve taken on the persona of John Cena when it comes to men. You won’t observe me with a partner because that won’t happen again unless I’m married and have children.
Kayla, who had a five-year relationship with a Kansas City Chiefs player that ended a year before he started dating Taylor Swift, explained that people might view her as secretive, but in truth, she’s safeguarding her personal life instead.
As a lifestyle advisor, I believe in safeguarding my own relationships as well as those around me. It may appear that I’m being cautious or secretive, but in truth, I’m being prudent and respectful. I prefer to keep my personal life private until I am certain that the person I’m with is a long-term partner. I value my connections deeply, and at times, maintaining privacy helps shield them from unwanted opinions and entitlement.
Kayla noted, “Folks are seeking clarification,” she said. “They believe it’s necessary for you to provide a rationale for every aspect of your relationship, from its highs and lows, to its joyful and melancholic moments. I aspire to love freely, without the burden of constant explanation.
At present, this 33-year-old woman is being very careful about her relationships to keep her romantic partner private.
She shared that she’s actively dating while keeping her romantic life discreet,” she disclosed. “She prefers the privacy of a secluded spot, like a quiet corner or hidden room, and is unapologetic about it.
Since 2023, Travis has been in a high-profile relationship with Taylor. Although Kayla expressed her appreciation for the “Lavender Haze” artist, whom she described as exceptionally gifted, the negative attention they’ve received has had an impact on her.
Kayla observed that the criticism on Fox’s Special Forces: The World’s Toughest Test in January was persistent and draining for her. “Regardless of what I post, people will find something to comment about, whether it’s about an old relationship or their current situation,” she noted. “Unintentionally, this has made me doubt my personal worth.
Speaking from personal experience, I find myself constantly caught up in this vicious cycle of comparison, my mind seemingly stuck on repeat. Truth be told, I’m still navigating ways to manage and overcome this challenge.

Although Travis Kelce might forever be tied to Kansas City, Missouri, his roots lie in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where he spent his childhood years.
In my role as a lifestyle connoisseur, I proudly shout out my beloved hometown, Cincinnati, rather than my academic alma mater, during live sports broadcasts, especially when player introductions are made.
Which, as you might guess, has irked some fellow alums.
Travis shared in 2019 that he deeply values his time at the University of Cincinnati, but admitted there was a period when it wasn’t simple for him. It was challenging. He lost his scholarship and made some poor decisions. Many people in this room probably know someone from Cleveland Heights High School who’s also made questionable choices. To my friends, I was that person.
Apart from holding a special place in his heart, he added, this high place resonates with everyone here. It’s incredibly diverse, and it stirs something within me. Everything I accomplish is dedicated to this city. While it might sound overused, let me assure you, each time you see me celebrating in the end zone, that’s a tribute to Cleveland Heights, for all of you.
2. About that revoked scholarship…
Reflecting on my past experiences as a lifestyle expert, I recall an unforgettable moment from 2010 when, following our triumphant undefeated season and Big East title with the Bearcats, I found myself facing an unexpected challenge. After ringing in the New Year in the vibrant city of New Orleans, my celebrations carried on a bit too exuberantly, leading to a positive marijuana test prior to the Sugar Bowl. It was a lesson learned, and one that underscored the importance of responsible partying amidst the excitement of success.
Beyond just not playing in the bowl game, he was banned from the NCAA for the entire 2010 season, also causing him to lose his scholarship. With no place to live or eat, he moved into his brother’s room (specifically, Jason’s room in the house they shared with teammates) and got a job as a telemarketer where he would call people to discuss their opinions on the Affordable Care Act.
They did, and Travis could not wait to get back on the field.
3. Travis had experience playing hockey, baseball, and basketball before focusing on football. He served as a quarterback during high school and even attracted interest from Cincinnati as a two-star QB recruit. However, following his suspension, he was reinstated to the team under the condition that he switched positions to tight end.
In 2013, when I was drafted by the Chiefs, our team had an exceptional quarterback in Zach Collaros. However, we required reinforcements both on the ground and through the air. So, I discussed this with my coach at the time, Butch Jones, and he suggested we needed a tight end. Given my abilities, athleticism, and direction, it all lined up perfectly for me.
In simpler terms, when speaking with GQ in 2017, he expressed that people throughout his life had always viewed him as a tight end instead.
4. The house located on 127 W. Nixon St., where Travis shared a room with Jason and other University of Cincinnati students, frequently hosted rowdy parties fueled by beer.
Tom DeTemple, a college friend and teammate, shared with the New York Times prior to the 2024 Super Bowl that the brothers were fond of spending hours on their Nintendo 64 console. He also mentioned that they’d often drink beers synchronously while playing, and devised their own impromptu drinking games. According to DeTemple, they were exceptionally skilled at these gaming sessions.
5. And suffice it to say, Travis is extremely proud of being a Bearcat.
He expressed to reporters before the 2023 Super Bowl that it was all about Cincinnati for him. You see, he’s deeply proud of his roots at the University of Cincinnati. After finally receiving his diploma, he’s made it a point to give back whenever possible. Whenever he can, he returns to the university. He misses being around the teammates he played with and the people he met during his time there who have always supported him through thick and thin.
When he faced criticism from the NCAA, he responded by saying, “Those who were part of the university – the players, the coaches, and the staff – had faith that I could change things and improve my situation. Their belief in me was crucial to me during that period.
6 years after leaving college to join the draft, Travis finally received his degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2022. However, he didn’t get his diploma until April 2024 during an unexpected graduation ceremony. This was at a time when he and Jason were taping a live episode of New Heights at Cincinnati’s Fifth Third Arena.
As the graduate moved towards the dean for his well-deserved handshake upon graduation, he was already clutching a cold beer and swiftly downed it right afterwards.
And Travis was going to graduate in 2022 but he missed his flight.
7. Due mainly to some personal matters off the field, I found myself being selected as the fifth tight end in the 2013 NFL Draft, picked in the third round by the Chiefs. Later on, coach Andy Reid, who had previously worked with my brother in Philadelphia, asked me to endorse Travis for this opportunity.
Andy and Travis have three Super Bowl rings to show for Jason’s endorsement.
8. For quite some time, Travis would listen to “Burn On” by Randy Newman prior to every game, although the type of music he gets hyped up by might have evolved since then.
Speaking on the NBC Sports podcast “PFT Live” in 2017, he shared that as a child from Cleveland’s east side, this particular song has always evoked memories of his family and made him reflect on his life journey and how grateful he feels for it all.
Let us explain: It’s in the opening credits of Major League, the ultimate Cleveland sports movie.
9. Everyone, including Travis, is mispronouncing his last name.
As they went with Kelce, whose pronunciation sounds like “Kel-see”, it’s actually more akin to the word “else”.
Travis’ teammate Chris Jones dropped a surprising comment about his situation on Inside the NFL in January, saying “Freaky, isn’t it?”. Later, when they discussed this with their father Ed Kelce on their New Heights podcast, the brothers agreed that it was indeed unusual.
Jason wondered aloud, “Why on earth did you suddenly decide to change your name and now we’re referred to as ‘Kel-see’? I mean, we had our original names for over two decades of my life, and nearly the same for yours.
Ed admitted he “got tired of correcting people” but urged his son to “do whatever you want.”
10. The jersey number 87, which Travis has consistently worn during his NFL career, honors Jason, born in the year 1987.
As I shared with NFL Films prior to the 2023 Super Bowl, where my team, the Chiefs, faced off against Jason’s Philadelphia Eagles, if there is a Kelce legacy in the NFL, it all began with me being born in 1987. In other words, the journey of two brothers making it to the NFL started when this big guy (me) came into the world in ’87.
11. For many years, Travis’ foundation and Running have been generous contributors to Operation Breakthrough, a long-standing educational center in Kansas City. The athlete has collaborated with this organization since his initial visit in 2015, where he read “The Cat in the Hat” to the children.
Yes, reader, he wore the hat.
Afterwards, Travis made an investment in the Smart Lab of the program and also purchased the neighboring old muffler shop. This enabled them to extend their facilities and establish the Ignition Lab, where young scholars transform old cars that were destined for the scrapyard into functioning electric vehicles instead.
12. Travis and Jason refer to their listeners as “92 percenters,” a term inspired by a past remark made by Jason about a specific play, the quarterback sneak, being successful approximately 92% of the time in situations where only one yard is needed to achieve a touchdown.
It seems that fans have affectionately dubbed themselves as the “92 percenters,” as indicated on the podcast’s website. This nickname appears to be their unique identifier, similar to a secret handshake, but expressed verbally instead.
Who were the Kelce brothers to argue with that?
13. Travis is accompanied by three trainers – Alex Skacel, Andrew Spruill, and Laurence Justin Ng – and it’s reported by The Athletic that one of them often joins him on his travels to maintain his physical fitness for football throughout the entire year.
Alex, who is additionally a physical therapist, remembered that Travis expressed a desire to go for an evening jog following a busy schedule at Paris Fashion Week, as he had not exercised that particular day due to attending numerous shows.
At midnight, our coach instructed the New York Times in April that we were running sprints across the bridges over the river. Regardless of his location, he always manages to fit into his schedule whatever tasks he requires to accomplish.
14. I’ve known Kumar Ferguson, Travis’ personal chef, as a buddy ever since our days at elementary school in Cleveland Heights back in the fourth grade.
In the year 2016, finding myself juggling my passion for cooking with a life on the road as a truck driver, I received an unexpected call from Travis that changed everything. He presented me with an extraordinary opportunity…
In 2023, Kumar expressed to Vanity Fair, “He said something like, ‘Hey buddy, I’m committed to improving my diet significantly.’ To which I replied, ‘Wow, let’s make it happen.’ A few days passed, and lo and behold, I found myself in Kansas City.
He has taken care of various tasks, ranging from filling up Travis’ refrigerator to providing nutritious meals at the Chiefs’ training complex.
15. These days, Travis’ facial hair is getting a closer look than ever before. On the show New Heights , he shared that he trimmed his off-season beard last year and opted to keep the mustache instead, as a tribute to Andy Reid’s walrus-style look from 2023. He plans to do the same in 2024.
16. In April 2024, Travis secured a two-year deal worth $34.25 million, marking the first time in his career he became the highest-earning tight end in the NFL.
Which finally put an end to years of chatter about how much money he wasn’t making.
In 2023, Travis joked with Vanity Fair saying, “My supervisors and representatives often remind me that I’m underpaid. Whenever I bring up the topic of increased compensation, they simply suggest, ‘Perhaps you should approach the Chiefs about it.’
However, as other revenue streams became available, his focus shifted from salary to the overall atmosphere or ambiance.
He clarified, “The free market seems exciting, but it only feels that way until you find yourself not succeeding. I enjoy triumphs; I appreciate my current position.
Admittedly, witnessing other players receiving large sums of money can leave a slight pang in your heart. It makes you wonder if perhaps you’re not being fairly compensated. I’m unsure if I would truly push myself harder if it meant getting what they call my worth. However, I relish coming to this place every day.
17. Travis developed an interest in fashion while growing up in Cleveland Heights, as his high school essentially served as a daily runway show, according to his statement to Vanity Fair in 2023.
Consequently, transforming his room into a closet was ideal for accommodating his designer clothes and over 300 pairs of sneakers – even a set of Nike Air Mags in size 13, which he bought using a good chunk of his first year’s earnings, despite them being slightly too small.
Previously, during the initial stages of his career, he pointed out to the Wall Street Journal, there weren’t any sneaker apps available. So, he bought the shoes that fit him best regardless of their size.
He has a soft spot for Converse Chuck Taylors, too; not just because Nike is his main sponsor, but because they bring back memories of the fictional baseball star Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez from the movie “The Sandlot“.
18. Among his dozens of investments, Travis co-owns Ohio-brewed Garage Beer with Jason.
In a statement made in June, Travis shared that he enjoys having a few beers occasionally. He’s thrilled about being the owner of Garage Beer and playing a significant role in crafting top-quality light brews. For him, there’s nothing quite like sharing an ice-cold beer with others to foster camaraderie. Essentially, beer symbolizes friends, family, and good times for Travis and his partner, Jason.
19. We’re sensing a theme when it comes to Travis’ guilty pleasure TV choices.
In the past, it was known as “Gossip Girl”: “I must say, it’s fantastic,” he commented on “New Heights”. It’s essentially a television series set in New York City high schools, filled with plenty of drama and people constantly gossiping and talking negatively about each other.
His new favorite show? Peacock’s Emmy-winning backstab-a-ganza The Traitors.
20. Recently, Travis, who’s in his 12th season in the NFL and is 35 years old, has become more candid about the physical strain football imposes on the body.
However, he has endured multiple setbacks from the very beginning, as a microfracture in his knee during his rookie year necessitated the first of the ten operations he underwent throughout his career.
21. Travis openly discussed an incident where he had hoped to offer Taylor Swift a friendship bracelet bearing his phone number during her performance in Kansas City, as part of their tour, on the radio show “New Heights”.
After learning about him from mutual acquaintances who knew both Travis and her, she reached out to him directly.
He said that she clearly explained the situation to him, and fortunately, she contacted him. (This version maintains the meaning of the original sentence while using simpler and more conversational language.)
22. For as long as he can remember, Travis has had a particular fondness for French toast, which he enjoys when it’s adorned with whipped cream and various syrups.
But more recently he’s become a fan of his girlfriend’s homemade Pop-Tarts and cinnamon rolls.
23. One of Travis’ phone rings with a tone that features Chris Farley exclaiming “Good grief!” from the movie ‘Tommy Boy’.
He shared with WSJ. The Magazine that he had introduced his love for the humor of Farley, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell to his girlfriend, saying, “I made it clear: This is where I find my rhythm.
24. Following their victory against the Bengals in the AFC Championship in 2019, Travis exclaimed “You’ve got to fight for your right to party!” and inspired the Chiefs to play the Beastie Boys song with the same title following every touchdown scored at Arrowhead Stadium after each home game.
Brett Veach stated to ESPN in 2020 that Travis Kelce functions like a power amplifier. It’s challenging to fully grasp how crucial this is. He plays with an exceptional blend of character, charm, and enthusiasm, which pulls others into his orbit. In our facility, everyone is pals with Travis Kelce because he’s not only a tremendous energy provider but also boosts the spirits, concentration, and attentiveness of everyone around him. Ultimately, he remains entertaining.
However, the exuberant host who introduced the tune into their world confessed that he hadn’t memorized all the lyrics to the 1986 hit until he was required to perform it with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show in February 2023.
25. In reference to his favorite tunes, Travis mentioned in May 2024 that his top picks among Taylor’s songs were “Blank Space”, “The Alchemy”, and “So High School”.
Every single one of them is my favorite!” (or simply “All are my favorites!”)
26. Early in his career, Travis drew comparisons to Tony Gonzalez, the esteemed tight end of the Chiefs who hung up his cleats in 2013 after a 17-season NFL stint.
Or:
26. Travis was likened to Tony Gonzalez, the revered tight end of the Chiefs, early on in his career. After a 17-year tenure in the league, Tony retired in 2013.
Both sentences convey the same meaning but use slightly different wording for variety and readability.
In 2015, as discussions intensified about whether he could indeed exceed Tony’s accomplishments and the potential letdown if he fell short, Travis chose to disregard the buzz.
He shared with Complex, “There’s no one who sets higher standards for me than I do. My goal is to achieve the most outstanding statistical season that any tight end has ever recorded.
On September 29th, Travis took over the title of the Chiefs’ record holder for total receptions with his 917th catch, outpacing Tony’s previous record.
Travis remarked on New Heights: “It’s amazing how things often return to where they started! Standing at the top of the leaderboard with the Kansas City Chiefs, an organization dating back to the ’60s – one of the pioneers who have persisted and thrived through it all. Much of this success can be attributed to their deep heritage and a man like Tony Gonzalez, who has been a guiding force for me. I genuinely admire him.
27. Of Travis’ many accomplishments, keeping his house in order on his own isn’t one of them.
“He can’t clean,” mom Donna Kelce told Extra in September. “He can’t cook.”
However, maybe the prospect of welcoming a special guest while she’s in the city has provided an additional incentive to tidy up and organize things properly.
“He’s getting a little better,” Donna acknowledged. “I think he’s getting some help.”
