Keanu Reeves Goes From John Wick To Angel In Good Fortune Behind-the-scenes Clip (Exclusive)

Keanu Reeves is famous for action movies like The Matrix and John Wick, but he’s also known for taking on diverse roles. In the new comedy Good Fortune, he plays the angel Gabriel, tasked with helping a man named Jeff (Seth Rogen) appreciate life. As the film becomes available to rent or buy online, ComicBook is offering a sneak peek with a behind-the-scenes look at Reeves’ transition from action hero to heavenly being. You can watch the featurette in the video below.

Producer Alan Yang shared what happened when Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen first read through the script, and it was a memorable experience. Yang recalled that Reeves was initially unsure about taking on the role, wondering if his comedic style would fit with Rogen and the writers, given his recent action-focused work like ‘John Wick’ and ‘The Matrix.’ However, once Reeves started performing the lines, Yang and Rogen both knew he was perfect for the part, and everything fell into place.

According to Yang, Keanu Reeves seemed to enjoy the script read-through. She recalls he left on his motorcycle immediately after, which everyone found incredibly cool.

After seeing Keanu Reeves in the part, Ansari immediately knew he wanted to play Gabriel. He explained, “I thought, ‘It absolutely has to be Keanu – no one else could pull this off.’ That’s when you really start building the characters around the actors you have.”

Yang discussed how to portray the Gabriel character’s innocence, and how Keanu Reeves’ serious acting style could enhance that contrast. She noted the character was ancient but also possessed a childlike naiveté.

According to Ansari, Keanu Reeves really came into his own with comedy during filming. He recalls a particularly enjoyable day where he was simply feeding jokes to Reeves and his co-star because their natural chemistry and timing were so strong. Initially, Reeves was unsure about his comedic abilities, but by the end, he was excelling at it.
