She remembered that when she directed Diane Keaton in *Something’s Gotta Give*, Keaton fully committed to the emotional scenes, crying repeatedly, but then managed to find the humor in them. Keaton also had a unique method of preparing for those scenes—she’d intentionally throw herself off balance by spinning in a silly circle before each take to help her get into character and access genuine emotion.
