Performing their own stunts and filming action scenes personally by actors adds an element of authenticity, as it appears the character is truly performing the daring feats. We’re always thrilled to witness Tom Cruise’s death-defying stunts and Keanu Reeves‘ impressive action sequences. However, movie production teams and insurance companies often view this practice with some apprehension since actors might get injured during these risky acts.
Keanu Reeves, famed for films like John Wick, demonstrated that acting doesn’t shield one from injury as he recently shared with Extra an incident where he injured himself while filming Good Fortune by simply slipping and breaking his knee.
After taking a bracing dip, I was on cloud nine, enjoying every moment. But then, we stepped into a cozy abode with plush carpets, and in an instant, my foot got tangled, causing me to accidentally fall and fracture my knee. So much fun turns to caution: beware, even the most inviting places can hide unexpected dangers!
In “Good Fortune,” Keanu Reeves portrays an angel who endeavors to demonstrate to a struggling man, played by Aziz Ansari, that money can’t fix all his issues. To do so, he exchanges their lives with those of two contrasting individuals: the successful man played by Seth Rogen. However, things don’t unfold quite as the angel had intended.
Experiencing a fall so severe that your knee breaks appears to be an intensely uncomfortable ordeal. It seems even more distressing than any mishap documented during the filming of the John Wick movies. However, fortunately, the accident reportedly didn’t disrupt production as Keanu Reeves proceeded with the next scene on time. Aziz Ansari commented…
During that moment, it felt as if we were watching a scene from Seth’s program, The Studio. It seemed as though I overheard them on walkie-talkies, signaling that Keanu had fallen. Shortly after the fall, he continued filming a scene, and his knee was bleeding. I couldn’t help but be shocked, thinking ‘Wait, what just happened?’ It appears Keanu is determined to keep shooting.
Though the knee injury seemed minor initially, it might significantly affect Keanu Reeves’ future in action films. Although ‘John Wick 5’ is underway, the actor himself has expressed concerns about his knees being able to handle another movie. As he turns 61, age is definitely taking its toll. In interviews, he’s mentioned a desire for ‘John Wick 5’ action scenes to be more age-appropriate, and possibly avoiding any water-related stunts, given the risk of serious injury if one were to slip and fall.
