Keeley Hawes series The Assassin finally gets season 2 confirmed as returning cast announced

Good news for fans! Prime Video has renewed The Assassin for a second season and revealed which cast members will be returning.

Everyone’s been anticipating a second season of the popular thriller, created by Harry and Jack Williams, and now it’s confirmed! Production is scheduled to start later this year.

The original actors will be back for the next season, including Keeley Hawes (known for Bodyguard) as Julie. Julie is a former assassin who was living a peaceful life on a Greek island until her son, Eddie (played by Freddie Highmore), showed up seeking information about his father.

Jack Highmore will return as Edward, and Shalom Brune-Franklin, known for her role in ‘Baby Reindeer,’ will be back as his clever fiancée, Kayla.

Hawes expressed her excitement about revisiting the character of Julie, saying she’s eager to explore Julie’s life and her complex connection with Edward. She hinted that there are many more secrets to be revealed, promising viewers a delightful experience.

Highmore shared his excitement about the new project, saying Harry and Jack have created another amazing story, and he’s thrilled to be working with the talented Keeley again.

Devon Terrell returns as Ezra, Kayla’s often surprising brother. More information about the cast will be shared soon.

I’m so excited for the next part of Edward and Julie’s story! It’s going to start right after their awful trip to Northern Europe. Things didn’t go well at all, and they’re pretty much not speaking to each other when it begins – they’ve had a big fight and are really distant again.

Edward’s honeymoon takes a turn for the worse, forcing him to team up with his ex, Julie, to fight corruption in Spain. But can they complete the dangerous mission and repair their broken relationship?

This series comes from Two Brothers Pictures, the production company that made Fleabag, and is distributed internationally by All3Media.

As a huge fan of ‘The Assassin’, I was thrilled to hear from Daisy Mount and Alex Mercer, the executive producers. They said getting the chance to work with Keeley, Freddie, Shalom, and Devon again was amazing – and thankfully, they didn’t let things end happily ever after for these characters! Apparently, season two is packed with surprises and keeps you guessing, which sounds perfect given how complex and unpredictable the characters are themselves. I can’t wait!

Maartje Horchner, Executive Vice President of Content at All3Media International, expressed her excitement about the show’s return, calling it a stylish and clever thriller that has resonated with viewers worldwide. She highlighted the cast’s strong performances and praised the new season’s captivating storyline for Jack and Harry, predicting audiences will thoroughly enjoy it.

I’m really excited about the team behind this project! Sarah Hammond, Harry and Jack Williams, along with Tom Hawes and Freddie Highmore, are all executive producing – that’s a lot of creative power! And directing duties are being handled by Terry McDonough and Sarah O’Gorman, both fantastic choices if you ask me.

The Assassin season 1 is available to stream on Prime Video.
