Keeper Developer Double Fine Has More Projects in the Works, All of Them New IPs

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m super excited about Double Fine’s upcoming narrative adventure game, Keeper. But They’ve got multiple fresh, new projects in the pipeline too. During Xbox’s Day 1 showcase at Gamescom 2025, our fearless leader, Tim Schafer, spilled some beans about these unannounced projects that aren’t part of the Keeper universe. Can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeves!

As a dedicated fan, I’m excited to share that Schafer mentioned none of the upcoming titles from Double Fine are sequels to our favorite older games. Working on Psychonauts 2 has kept us busy with sequels for a bit. This means that Brutal Legend might not be getting a follow-up anytime soon, but I’m hopeful that we can look forward to other fantastic games instead!

At this moment, I’m excited to share that our team is not only working on the games you see now, but also developing several entirely new ones. Notably, all of these projects are brand new intellectual properties, with Psychonauts 2 having already taken care of any sequels for a while.

Besides discussing Keeper, Schafer also touched upon the unique perspective of its game director, Lee Petty, as the game’s title embodies. Schafer noted that Petty’s eclectic preferences, encompassing The Dark Crystal, Cronenberg-inspired films, and surrealist painters, will likely lead to an intriguing game that offers players a dose of the unusual.

The game titled “Keeper” was initially unveiled as far back as June. This narrative adventure will let players take charge of an unusual lighthouse that has gained the ability to move on its own. The game primarily focuses on investigating the world and solving environmental riddles, aided by the lighthouse’s companion, a bird named Twig.

In the game named “Keeper“, the challenges are centered around a lighthouse and a character named Twig, each with unique capabilities that necessitate collaboration to progress through the game world. Through their joint efforts, an unexpected bond forms between them, all without any spoken or written dialogue exchanging hands.

New insights regarding the game called Keeper were shared earlier this week, primarily through an Xbox Wire interview with Petty. In the interview, Petty discussed how Keeper is engineered to encourage players to welcome the unforeseen while exploring its peculiar universe.

According to Petty, a fundamental aspect of this game is the element of surprise. Our aim was to allow players to unwind and enjoy the unpredictable. To achieve this, there’s some degree of experimentation involved, but players cannot lose or ruin the game in any way. The game is designed to get players comfortable early on, so when they encounter something unexpected, it’s not a stressful moment that leaves them confused about how to proceed.

Additionally, Petty characterized “Keeper” as having a simple and uncomplicated title, with few hurdles related to complex control mechanisms. The game is planned to include adjustable control settings as one of its accessibility options.

The game titled “Keeper” is set to launch on both PC and Xbox Series X/S, scheduled for October 17. It will cost $29.99 upon release. Remarkably, it’s going to be accessible on Game Pass right from the day of its debut.
