Keepers of the Keep is a promising indie RPG expected in 2026, though it won’t have a huge launch like some bigger games. Currently, the game is still scheduled for a 2026 release on Steam, and it will initially be available as an Early Access title, meaning it won’t be fully completed at launch.
The current release plan is Early Access, not a full launch
The most important thing to understand is this: Keepers of the Keep will launch in Early Access, not as a fully finished game in 2026. The developers anticipate the Early Access period will last a little over a year, with the complete game expected around mid-2027. Anyone claiming it will be fully released in 2026 is going beyond what has been officially announced.
KINJAKO’s game mixes fantasy role-playing with dice-driven choice systems

I’m really excited about Keepers of the Keep! It’s a new game on Steam – it’s a pretty relaxed RPG that’s still being developed, which is cool. You play as either Monet or Vincent, and they’re basically two thieves who have to work to pay off what they owe in this town called The Keep. From what I’ve seen, you’ll be taking on jobs, getting to know the people who live there, and slowly discovering that things aren’t quite what they seem in this little settlement.
The game’s hook is built around dice rolls and branching outcomes
The core of this project is its unique dice-based system. Players roll two six-sided dice for almost everything that happens, and their character’s stats, equipment, and how they manage their time can influence the results. The game also has a structured daily routine: you’ll work during the day, focus on building relationships and skills in the afternoon, and go on adventures at night, all leading towards different possible endings.
Romance paths, side quests, and multiple endings are part of the full vision
The complete game will be significantly more extensive than the initial Early Access release. The developer aims to include seven chapters, over twenty side quests, and complete romance storylines with scenes that continue after a romance is established. Steam highlights that players can also expect six characters to pursue romantic relationships with, 25 different endings, and more than 50 achievements to unlock.
The initial Early Access build will be smaller, but still substantial
The game isn’t launching with just a small demo. The initial Early Access release on Steam will feature a substantial amount of content – the prologue, plus Chapters 1 and 2, offering around 3.5 to 4.5 hours of gameplay. It also includes 7 side quests, 13 achievements, and the beginnings of each romantic storyline. This is a much more complete launch than most indie games have when they first enter Early Access.
A free demo has already been live since 2025
You don’t need to wait for the full game to get a feel for it. The ‘Keepers of the Keep’ demo, available since March 3, 2025, offers the same characters, story, and gameplay as the complete version. While the demo currently has 8 positive user reviews on Steam, it’s important to remember that’s a small number and doesn’t necessarily reflect how the wider audience will react.
The real takeaway as of April 3
Okay, so let’s be real – Keepers of the Keep isn’t out yet, and there’s no solid launch date just yet. But the good news is it’s still on track for Early Access in 2026! They’ve even got a demo you can play right now, and a clear plan for how the game will develop, aiming for the full release around mid-2027. As someone who loves story-driven indie RPGs with romance options and a bit of randomness thrown in with dice rolls, this is definitely a game I’m keeping on my radar. It’s promising, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves – it’s still a work in progress!
