Keke Palmer Confronts Ryan Seacrest Over American Juniors Audition

Baby, this is Keke Palmer from the vault.

On the March 16th episode of American Idol, Keke Palmer joined Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood as a guest judge. Host Ryan Seacrest then revealed footage of her audition for the early 2000s show American Juniors, and Keke was clearly surprised to see her younger self performing.

Keke, who is now 32, jokingly teased Ryan for not letting her move forward in the competition after seeing a video of her dancing to Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Let’s Groove” when she was nine years old.

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe she finally asked him! She just blurted out, “Ryan, why didn’t you pick me back on Idol?” And he, like, totally deflected, saying, “I never had the final say, and honestly, I still don’t!” It’s just… frustrating! He always seems to avoid taking responsibility. I’m obsessed with everything about this, and it just kills me that he wouldn’t even acknowledge her! He hosted both Idol and Juniors – he should remember everyone!

Nonetheless, Ryan, 51, acknowledged Keke’s palpable charm even at a young age.

“You were destined to be a star,” he raved. “That was absolutely magical.”

In another part of the old video, Keke Palmer, who starred in Akeelah and the Bee, shared a sweet response when asked what she’d do with the prize money if she won more rounds of the competition.

She said she’s planning to buy a house. She also wants to give her parents money to thank them for everything they’ve done for her, and help them with their taxes.

The actress, who is a mother to 3-year-old Leo with her former partner Darius Jackson, also shared a kind message with her followers.

Honestly, Keke’s words really stuck with me. She said she loves everyone and would never forget a single person, no matter what happens. And the best part? She promised she’d stay true to herself, and I truly believe she will. It’s so refreshing to see someone so genuine.

Keke recently thought about how starting her career at a young age changed things for her and her family. While it was a major opportunity, it also came with some challenges.

Growing up in a food desert – a small town in Illinois with limited access to fresh food – she explained to Variety that pursuing art was her family’s path to a better life. She described her experience as a child actor on Disney and Nickelodeon as deeply impersonal, but not necessarily negative. ‘It’s just that you’re treated like a product, not a person,’ she said.

Keke has experienced a lot during her long career in Hollywood. If you’re interested in learning about other child stars, continue reading!

As a lifestyle expert, I remember when Jonathan Taylor Thomas really burst onto the scene! Most of us first knew him as the super-smart and lovable Randy Taylor on Home Improvement back in ’91. But he wasn’t just a TV star – he was a movie favorite too! He gave voice to young Simba in The Lion King – fun fact, it wasn’t actually him singing though! – and starred in some great films alongside other rising stars like Brad Renfro in Tom and Huck and Devon Sawa in Wild America.

In 1998, he left the show Home Improvement (his character, Randy, moved to Costa Rica) to concentrate on his education, though he continued to act in other projects.

Oh my gosh, I still remember when he was on 8 Simple Rules back in 2004! It was amazing. But you will NOT believe it – years later, in 2013, he got to work with Tim Allen again! He didn’t just act with him, he actually directed episodes of Last Man Standing and even appeared in them too! It was a full circle moment and I was absolutely living for it!

Even though Jonathan Taylor Thomas stepped away from acting to focus on his personal life – he graduated from Columbia University in 2010 – he still manages to generate buzz. Whenever the paparazzi catch a glimpse of him, the photos quickly spread online.

Oh my gosh, Mason Lipnicki! Seriously, can we talk about how AMAZING he was in Jerry Maguire? He was, like, six years old and totally held his own against Tom Cruise – I mean, the charm! He stole almost as many scenes! And then he just kept popping up in everything! Stuart Little, Doctor Dolittle (his voice as Baby Tiger was ICONIC!), The Little Vampire, Little Mike… I was obsessed! It was so cool seeing him even guest star on Dawson’s Creek. I heard he stepped away for a bit to just be a normal kid in high school, which is awesome, but honestly, I was waiting for his return! He was just the cutest!

I was so touched when I saw that Jake Lipnicki shared his story on Instagram back in 2017. He talked about being bullied in middle school, and it really meant a lot to me that he was willing to open up like that. He said he wanted to help others who might be going through the same thing, and honestly, it was incredibly comforting to know I wasn’t alone, and that someone who’s been through it understands.

He was severely bullied as a child, and surprisingly, some of those same kids later tried to connect with him on Facebook. He remembered being told he’d never work again, and this led to nightly panic attacks, constantly worrying about further embarrassment. Despite everything, he persevered and now feels grateful for his life, hoping to share the message that things do improve.

Even now, he continues to act, most recently appearing in the 2023 Lifetime movie Secrets at the Museum. Originally from Los Angeles, he’s also a skilled martial artist with a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. In May 2021, he volunteered to help protect a local synagogue after a surge in anti-Semitic incidents.

Wilson starred in Mrs. Doubtfire at 6 and Matilda at 9 before putting acting on the back burner.

In 2016, the writer and activist published her memoir, Where Am I Now?: True Stories of Girlhood and Accidental Fame. She’s also made appearances on the show Broad City and lent her voice to several animated series, including BoJack Horseman, Big Hero 6: The Series, and Helluva Boss.

Wilson remembers a former friend once cheerfully asking her if she felt like she’d already reached the best part of her life. She didn’t know what to say at the time, but now she realizes that was the wrong way to look at things. She hasn’t peaked, because she’s no longer letting others define her story – she’s taking control and writing it herself, as she explained in a February 2021 op-ed for The New York Times about the challenges of early fame for girls.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt had already been acting for years when he landed the role of Tommy Solomon on 3rd Rock from the Sun. The sitcom began airing in 1996, when he was 14 years old. That same year, he also appeared as Demi Moore’s son in the thriller The Jury.

He quickly became known for diverse roles, playing the charming love interest in the 1999 film 10 Things I Hate About You, a street-smart character in the 2004 drama Mysterious Skin, and a determined teenage detective searching for his missing ex-girlfriend in the 2005 neo-noir film Brick.

Even though he looked young well into his twenties, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has had a diverse career playing adult roles. Some of his most notable films include 500 Days of Summer, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Inception, 50/50, The Dark Knight Rises, Looper, Lincoln, Don Jon (which he also wrote and directed), and Snowden. More recently, he portrayed a prosecutor in the historical drama The Trial of the Chicago 7 and the controversial Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick in the series Super Pumped.

He quietly married Tasha McCauley in 2014 and they share three children.

Natalie Portman gained recognition early in her career thanks to her remarkably mature performance in the 1994 film The Professional, and she’s continued to deliver impressive work ever since. Starting with that breakout role, she’s appeared in a wide range of successful films, including the Star Wars prequels, the Thor and Avengers movies, and critically acclaimed independent films like Beautiful Girls and Garden State. She’s also shown her versatility in comedies such as Mars Attacks! and Your Highness, powerful dramas like Closer and Brothers, and thrilling, thought-provoking films like V for Vendetta and Annihilation.

Natalie Portman won an Academy Award for her performance as a troubled ballerina in the 2010 film Black Swan, and later received another nomination for portraying Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in Jackie. She also made her directorial debut in 2015 with A Tale of Love and Darkness, which she adapted from Amos Oz’s autobiographical novel.

She married Benjamin Millepied, the choreographer she worked with on Black Swan, in 2012, and they have two children: a son named Aleph and a daughter named Amalia. They divorced in 2024.

Cameron Jones is most remembered for playing the son of Jon Cryer’s character – a down-on-his-luck divorced dad – and the nephew of Charlie Sheen’s character on the popular 2000s sitcom, Two and a Half Men. In 2012, a video appeared online of Jones criticizing the show, calling it inappropriate. The clip came from a longer, 15-minute religious presentation he gave for Forerunner Chronicles, a Seventh-day Adventist ministry based in Alabama.

Jones later apologized for not showing enough respect for his colleagues and for not fully appreciating how lucky he was to have the opportunity he’d been given.

The actor soon left the series, but returned for the finale in 2015.

During his last season on the CBS sitcom, actor Tim Jones reportedly earned $350,000 per episode. He recently told KHOU in Houston that he felt the show trivialized serious real-world issues, and he struggled with being part of it, describing himself as a “paid hypocrite” for continuing to participate despite his discomfort.

Before a small, uncredited role in the 2023 Max series Bookie, his most recent acting work was in Louis C.K.’s 2016 limited series Horace & Pete.

According to a 2016 interview with People magazine, Jones described his time at the University of Colorado at Boulder as a period of normalcy. He shared that he used to be very pessimistic, constantly worrying about potential disasters, but now he’s happy and enjoying life. He explained that he finally feels free from constant anxiety and fear.

Daniel Radcliffe has successfully moved beyond his role as Harry Potter by taking on a wide variety of challenging parts. He’s proven his range on stage in plays like Equus and The Cripple of Inishmaan, in the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and in films such as Kill Your Darlings, where he played Allen Ginsberg, and the quirky Swiss Army Man. He’s also impressed on television as a doctor struggling with opioid addiction in A Young Doctor’s Notebook.

Recently, he finished four seasons on Miracle Workers, starred as Weird Al Yankovic in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, and returned to the stage in a Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along.

On a personal note, Radcliffe is dad to a son with longtime partner Erin Darke.

Jodie Foster began her acting career around age six with a role in the Mayberry R.F.D. television series, a spin-off of The Andy Griffith Show. At just fourteen, she received her first Academy Award nomination for her performance in Taxi Driver, where she played a vulnerable young girl whose situation motivated Robert De Niro’s character to act violently. That same year, 1976, she also starred in the original Freaky Friday, a much lighter role that helped establish her as a popular young actress.

Jodie Foster balanced her studies at Yale with a blossoming acting career. After graduating, she achieved breakthrough success and won her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the 1988 film The Accused, where she played a woman who bravely pursued legal action after a brutal assault, only to find herself unexpectedly on trial herself. She later made her directorial debut with the 1991 film Little Man Tate, and then won the Best Actress Oscar in 1992 for her compelling performance as a determined FBI trainee in The Silence of the Lambs.

The acclaimed actress and filmmaker received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her lifetime achievements at the 2013 Golden Globes. More recently, she’s focused on directing television, having directed episodes of popular shows like House of Cards, Black Mirror, and Orange Is the New Black. Notable film roles this century include appearances in Panic Room, Inside Man, Elysium, Hotel Artemis, and The Mauritanian, for which she unexpectedly won a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actress in 2021.

She has two sons with her former partner, Cydney Bernard, and she married photographer and director Alexandra Hedison in 2014.

It’s not surprising that Jodie Foster took Kristen Stewart under her wing while filming the 2002 thriller, Panic Room, directed by David Fincher, as they played mother and daughter. Like Foster, Stewart has had a complicated relationship with fame, but it’s been amplified by the internet, especially after landing the role of Bella Swan in the Twilight series around age 16 – a role that truly changed her life.

In a 2019 interview with Stellar magazine, Kristen Stewart recalled that Jodie Foster didn’t believe she’d stick with acting. Stewart clarified this wasn’t a judgment on her ability, but rather a reflection of Foster’s own down-to-earth personality. “I enjoy my work a lot,” Stewart said, “but I can see why she’d have thought that about me when I was younger. I have a lot of affection for her.”

Since finishing the Twilight movies, the actress and Chanel model has continued to work steadily. While she briefly attempted a Charlie’s Angels reboot in 2019, she’s mostly focused on smaller, more personal films. This includes The Clouds of Sils Maria, for which she made history as the first American to win a César Award (a major French film prize), as well as the atmospheric drama Personal Shopper, and films inspired by real people, like Seberg and Spencer.

Following her public relationship with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart began dating women and later married Dylan Meyer in 2025.

You might know Josh Brolin as the powerful Thanos, but let me tell you, he’s been charming audiences for decades! Before he was snapping fingers and changing the universe, he was the sweet, slightly annoyed, but totally lovable older brother, Brandon Walsh, in the classic 1985 film The Goonies. It was actually one of his very first roles, and a great introduction to his talent!

Brolin continued acting in many films, including Flirting With Disaster, Mimic, and No Country for Old Men, which won an Academy Award for Best Picture and helped boost his career. He also appeared in American Gangster, W. (where he played George W. Bush), and Milk, earning an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Dan White, the man who killed Harvey Milk. Other notable roles include Jonah Hex, True Grit, Sicario, Deadpool 2, and the blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, where he played Thanos using CGI. More recently, he’s been in the science fiction film Dune, both the first installment and the upcoming sequels.

Josh Brolin has two children with his first wife, Alice Adair. He was then married to Diane Lane from 2004 to 2013. He married Kathryn Boyd in 2016, and they have two daughters together: Westlyn Reign Brolin, born in 2018, and Chapel Grace Brolin, born in December 2020.

She started her acting career at around age 10, appearing in films with Cher and Winona Ryder. She was in the 1990 movie Mermaids, and the following year, she starred as the darkly funny Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family.

Christina Ricci continued to gain recognition in the 1990s with roles in films like Casper and Now and Then. She then built a career playing complex characters in movies such as The Opposite of Sex, Buffalo ’66, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Sleepy Hollow, Prozac Nation, Pumpkin, and Monster. In Monster, she portrayed the girlfriend of serial killer Aileen Wuornos, a role famously played by Charlize Theron, who won an Oscar for her performance.

Over the last three decades, Christina Ricci has consistently chosen bold and daring roles. From playing a stylish flight attendant in the TV series Pan Am to the extreme physicality of being chained up in Black Snake Moan, she’s drawn to captivating characters based on real people, like the infamous ax murderer Lizzie Borden in The Lizzie Borden Chronicles and the complex author Zelda Fitzgerald in Z: The Beginning of Everything.

Oh my gosh, I know everything about Florence! She’s a mom to two amazing kids. First, there’s Freddie, her son with James Heerdegen – he’s so cute! And then she had little Cleopatra with her current husband, Mark Hampton. Seriously, she’s the perfect mom!

In October 2021, Yellowjackets actress Melanie Lynskey married hairdresser Mark Hampton. They welcomed their daughter, Cleopatra, in December of that same year.

Macaulay Culkin became a famous face almost overnight with a single scream in Home Alone when he was just 10 years old, but he’d actually been working in TV movies and films like Uncle Buck and Jacob’s Ladder since he was around 5. After taking a break from acting for nearly a decade following 1994’s Richie Rich, he’s returned to it occasionally, often choosing smaller films that have a significant cultural impact, like Party Monster and Saved. He’s also pursued his passions as a musician and painter.

Macaulay Culkin, known for his voice work on Robot Chicken and a cameo as a barista on The Jim Gaffigan Show, is joining the tenth season of American Horror Story. The new season is scheduled to premiere in 2021, assuming all health and safety guidelines are finalized.

The actor is engaged to Brenda Song and they have two sons. Their first son, Dakota Song Culkin, is named after the actor’s sister, Dakota, who sadly passed away in 2008. Their second son, Carson, made his first public appearance at his father’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony on December 1, 2023, at just 12 months old.

Kieran Culkin started his acting career with a memorable role as Fuller, Kevin McCallister’s Pepsi-loving cousin, in his older brother’s hit movie, Home Alone.

He first became known to audiences through roles in teen movies like Father of the Bride, She’s All That, Igby Goes Down, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. But he truly broke out of that typecasting with his award-winning performance as the sharp-tongued Roman Roy on the show Succession.

In 2025, Kieran had a breakthrough year, culminating in an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film A Real Pain.

He and his wife, Jazz Charton, have three children: Kinsey Sioux, Wilder Wolf, and a new baby who was born in September 2025, as announced by Kieran’s Succession co-star, Sarah Snook.

It might look like Dakota quickly jumped from playing young roles – like Ally McBeal’s daughter and Sean Penn’s daughter in I Am Sam – to a leading role as the first female detective in the historical drama The Alienist. However, that wasn’t the case.

For over 20 years, she’s consistently delivered strong performances in a variety of films, including Uptown Girls, Man on Fire, Hide and Seek, War of the Worlds, Charlotte’s Web, The Secret Life of Bees, three Twilight movies, American Pastoral, and Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. Notably, she portrayed Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, a follower of Charles Manson, in Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood.

Dakota Fanning acted alongside her sister Elle Fanning in the film The Nightingale. She also received a Golden Globe nomination in 2025 for playing Marge Sherwood in the Netflix series Ripley.

Though she began her career playing a young version of her sister Dakota’s character in the film I Am Sam – known as ‘Lucy 2 years’ – Elle Fanning has since established herself as a unique and successful actor with her own distinct style.

Elle started her career playing the children of famous actors in films like Daddy Day Care, The Door in the Floor, Babel, and Reservation Road. She also appeared in episodes of popular TV shows such as the CSI series, Criminal Minds, House, and Law & Order: SVU – often in roles she was likely too young to fully understand at the time. As she grew older, Elle continued to take on diverse movie roles, moving from family-friendly films like We Bought a Zoo and Maleficent, to young adult stories like Super 8 and Twixt, critically acclaimed dramas like Trumbo and 20th Century Women, and even darker, more fantastical films like The Neon Demon and The Beguiled.

She’s also taken on notable roles, portraying Mary Shelley in a movie about her life and Catherine the Great in the Hulu comedy series The Great.

Since becoming famous on the Disney Channel’s Lizzie McGuire, the actress and singer has matured. She successfully transitioned from that role into popular family movies like Agent Cody Banks, Cheaper by the Dozen, and A Cinderella Story.

After a period without a major role, Hilary Duff has been shining in Younger, playing a complex coworker to Sutton Foster’s character—a woman pretending to be a millennial—in the popular TV Land series, which will be back for a seventh season. While fans were excited about a potential spin-off focusing on Duff’s Younger character, Kelsey, many were even more eager to see her reprise her role as Lizzie in a planned Disney+ reboot. Sadly, those plans for a revival of the beloved series have been cancelled.

She has since starred in two seasons of  How I Met Your Father.

Hilary Duff first married hockey player Mike Comrie, and they had a son named Luca before divorcing in 2014 after four years together. She then married musician Matthew Koma in 2019, and they have three daughters: Banks Violet, Mae James, and Townes Meadow, who was born in May 2024.

Candace Cameron Bure, known as the older sister on Full House, became a style icon for many twelve-year-olds in the late 80s and early 90s. She’s also the younger sister of actor Kirk Cameron, who starred in Growing Pains. Full House originally aired from 1987 to 1995.

She’s appeared in many TV movies, including some that tackled important issues. One notable example is the 1996 film No One Would Tell, which was based on the heartbreaking true story of a high school student who was tragically killed by her abusive boyfriend after months of silent suffering. It’s a story that remains deeply affecting even today.

Candace Cameron Bure has become a familiar face on television. After co-hosting The View for two seasons and reprising her role with the Tanner family in five seasons of Netflix’s Fuller House, she’s now a leading star on the Hallmark Channel, especially during the holidays. She also stars in Hallmark’s Aurora Teagarden mystery series, which is based on the novels by Charlaine Harris.

In 2021, she and her husband, former NHL player Valeri Bure, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. They have three children together.

After spending eight seasons playing Stephanie Tanner on Full House, Jodie Sweetin faced challenges with substance abuse. She openly shared her experiences in her 2009 autobiography, unSweetined.

Between 2002 and 2016, three marriages kept her in the public eye. A short engagement to Justin Hodak also generated headlines, but it ended badly. Hodak violated a restraining order she had against him and was later sentenced to over six years in prison in 2019 for possessing a dangerous weapon and providing false evidence.

As someone who’s been sober since 2008, my life has been incredibly full! I had the joy of stepping back into the Tanner family world for five seasons of Fuller House on Netflix, which was such a fun experience. And I’ve really enjoyed working with Hallmark Channel, starring in movies like the Christmas film Merry and Bright from 2019, and the romantic comedy Just Swipe. Being a mom to my daughters, Zoie and Beatrix, is the most rewarding role of all, of course!

The character of Michelle Tanner on the popular TV show Full House was actually played by twin sisters, starting when they were babies and continuing until she was a bright 6-year-old. Their success on the show led to a whole business empire, including movies, clothing, books, and more.

After 2004’s New York Minute, Mary-Kate continued acting with a role on the show Weeds and appearances in the films The Wackness and Beastly. Ashley, however, stepped away from acting. Today, both sisters are best known as fashion icons and the co-founders of the award-winning brands The Row and Elizabeth & James.

Ashley and her husband, Louis Eisner, welcomed their first child in 2023. Mary-Kate married Olivier Sarkozy in 2015, but they divorced in 2020.

Before becoming a famous movie star, environmental activist, and Oscar winner for The Revenant, Leonardo DiCaprio had a very different beginning. In 1991, he played a homeless teenager named Luke who was taken in by the Seaver family on the TV show Growing Pains. Even then, he was a talented actor with a remarkably youthful appearance – he was 16 and already had acting experience. DiCaprio received his first Oscar nomination for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and became known for playing troubled young characters in films like A Boy’s Life, The Basketball Diaries, Marvin’s Room, and Romeo + Juliet.

He still kinda looked like a kid in Titanic, but at 22 he had reached full-on heartthrob status.

In the last ten years, Leonardo DiCaprio has appeared in acclaimed films including Inception, The Wolf of Wall Street, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, The Revenant (for which he finally won an Academy Award for Best Actor), and Killers of the Flower Moon.

Accio, adulthood!

Emma Watson first gained recognition for her role as Hermione Granger in the eight Harry Potter movies. Since then, she’s expanded her career to include films aimed at young adults, like The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Bling Ring. She’s also acted alongside major stars like Tom Hanks in The Circle, played Belle in the live-action Beauty and the Beast, and portrayed Meg March in Little Women. Beyond acting, Watson uses her influence as a UN Goodwill Ambassador to support women and promote gender equality globally.

In addition to her film work, Watson has modeled for brands like Prada and Burberry, started a gin company with her brother Alex, and pursued creative writing studies at Oxford University.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always been fascinated by those who seem to effortlessly blend success with self-awareness. Take Neil Patrick Harris, for example! He was a New Mexico native who truly made a splash right away – landing a Golden Globe nomination at just 15 for his very first role in the TV movie Clara’s Heart. It’s amazing to think that could have been it, though! He became a teen idol playing the genius doctor Doogie Howser, but he cleverly poked fun at that image years later with a hilarious cameo in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. It just proves that being able to laugh at yourself is key to a long and fulfilling career.

After a slow period following an early, hectic career in Hollywood, he remained active in theater, appearing in three Broadway productions. Eventually, he landed the perfect television role as the charming Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother, which earned him four Emmy nominations. In 2010, he was nominated for three Emmys and won two – one for co-producing the 2009 Tony Awards and another for a guest appearance on Glee.

This incredibly talented performer—a master of acting, singing, dancing, and magic—has hosted the Tony Awards four times, winning an Emmy each time as a producer. He’s also hosted the Emmys twice and the Oscars once, in 2015. In 2014, he won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his starring role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Neil Patrick Harris and his husband, David Burtka, had twins, Gideon and Harper, through surrogacy in 2010. They got married in 2014.

She first gained fame as the adorable Olivia on The Cosby Show when she was just four years old. She then starred in films like The Little Rascals and the Doctor Dolittle movies. In 2003, she led her own popular Disney Channel show, That’s So Raven, where she played a stylish teen with psychic abilities. While on That’s So Raven, she also made appearances in other Disney Channel shows, including The Cheetah Girls, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Kim Possible, and Sonny With a Chance.

Okay, so after “That’s So Raven” ended in 2007, she didn’t disappear, you know? She was everywhere! I spotted her on shows like “American Dad,” “Nashville,” “State of Georgia,” “The Jim Gaffigan Show,” even “Master of None” and “Drunk History” – seriously, she’s so versatile! And she had a regular gig on “Black-ish,” which I loved. Plus, she was a co-host on “The View” for three whole seasons! And the best part? She finally found her person and married Miranda Maday in June 2020. I was SO happy for her!
