Kellie Pickler’s life has changed a lot since she took to the American Idol stage in 2006.
Before becoming famous on the competition show—where she finished in the top five—she worked as a roller-blading waitress at a burger restaurant. Since then, the show has continued to launch successful careers for two decades.
It meant so much to be back with the American Idol family, especially after everything I’ve been through. I was telling Danielle Fishel on the podcast that I really want people to understand how real that connection is. It truly is a family, and once you’re part of Idol, you’re always part of it, no matter when you were on the show. It was amazing to see so many of the same crew members still working there after all these years – almost 20! It just feels good to be surrounded by people who understand.
The singer, 39, added that they look out for one another, and expressed her happiness being back on the Idol stage, saying, “It’s good to be home.”
After her husband Kyle tragically took his own life, Kellie stepped away from public life. Now, as she begins to reappear in the public eye, she’s thankful for all the opportunities Idol provided her.
She explained that growing up in a small town meant she hadn’t traveled much. Being on season five of the show was her first time flying on a plane and visiting Hollywood, and she experienced many things for the first time while the world watched.

Honestly, it’s just wild to even think about how long ago it all was! She said it herself, and it hit me so hard. So much has changed, and she’s just… unbelievably lucky, and I’m so happy for her. I mean, she deserves all the good things that have come her way.
On May 4th, Kellie returned to the Idol stage to perform a duet with Hannah Harper, who went on to win the competition during the May 11th finale.
When Kellie returned to the show, she and Hannah sang Martina McBride’s “A Broken Wing”—the same song Kellie sang when she first auditioned for the series back in 2006.

After our performance, Kellie playfully said she felt like an old antique being rediscovered! She then turned to Hannah and shared how incredibly grateful she was for the chance to perform alongside her – it was such a sweet moment, and honestly, I felt the same way watching them!
This performance was special – Kellie hadn’t been on stage publicly since a Patsy Cline tribute show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium in 2024. That earlier performance was also her first since her husband passed away.
“Honestly, I’m really nervous,” she told the audience in a TikTok video shared by Music Mayhem Magazine. “It’s my first time performing on stage in a long time. I’m so honored to be here tonight celebrating Patsy Cline – she’s a big reason I started loving music.”

Kelly Clarkson, mother to River and Remy, has achieved incredible success since first appearing on American Idol in 2002. The New York native has won three Grammy Awards, topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart three times, served as a judge on NBC’s The Voice, and is now wrapping up her highly-rated daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

The runner-up from season two of the show shared two important things in September 2008: he announced the birth of his son, Parker, with his friend and music producer, Jaymes Foster, and that this inspired him to come out as gay. He explained on Good Morning America that he didn’t want to teach his son to lie or hide anything, and he wanted to create a supportive environment where his son could be himself.
Since then, this well-known singer with red hair transitioned from music to politics, even running for Congress in 2016. After the election, he released a documentary about his life. However, he hasn’t completely stopped making music; in 2023 and 2024, he toured the country with season two winner Ruben Studdard.

Ruben, the winner of season two of Idol, went on to achieve significant success, including a Grammy nomination and several popular albums. In 2013, he appeared as a contestant on The Biggest Loser, quickly becoming a favorite among viewers. Although he was eliminated from the show twice, he learned a lot from the experience. Despite his past rivalry with Clay, Ruben has found lasting love with his wife, Kristin, and they welcomed their second child in 2024.

The season three champion recently expressed her gratitude for everything she’s experienced. In a December 2023 interview with TopMob News, she explained that life is full of ups and downs, and she’s learned to bounce back from challenges. She shared that overcoming hardship – including twice losing everything and fighting her way back – feels incredibly rewarding.
Beyond her career success, she’s celebrated personal milestones like welcoming daughter Keziah with husband Kendall Taylor in 2021, and receiving a Golden Globe nomination for The Color Purple remake. As a mother to both Keziah and her adult daughter Zion, she says she wants to savor this moment and appreciate all the hard work she put in to get here.

Although she didn’t win season three of the show, this musician has achieved incredible success! She won an Oscar for Dreamgirls in 2006, a Grammy for her work in the 2017 adaptation of The Color Purple, and even served as a judge on The Voice. Now, this mom to son David is launching her own talk show.

Carrie Underwood quickly became a pop culture icon the moment she appeared on Idol, and she went on to win season four. She’s since become one of country music’s biggest stars. For over a decade, she also co-hosted the CMA Awards with Brad Paisley. Balancing her successful music career and hosting duties, Carrie is also a mother to two sons with her husband, retired hockey player Mike Fisher.
Carrie Underwood will be joining the judging panel of American Idol in 2024, taking over for Katy Perry.

The singer who finished second on season four of the show is now married and has four children – three sons and one daughter. Even after facing significant health issues in 2006, this Southern rock artist has continued to release successful albums since appearing on Idol.

Constantine, known for his powerful voice and memorable performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody” on season four of a singing competition, found success on Broadway in Rock of Ages, earning him a Tony nomination. The father of daughter Malena, born in 2010, continued his stage career with a role in the 2023 production, Rock & Roll Man.

Following his win on season five, the singer released a platinum-selling album and then appeared in a Broadway production of Grease. In 2016, he transitioned to television, hosting State-Plate, a show centered around locally sourced food. Despite his TV work, he still loves music and continues to perform concerts.

You might remember a bit of a buzz around my early music career – some even called it ‘McPheever’ before other pop sensations hit the scene! It definitely opened doors for me, leading to some amazing roles on shows like Smash and Scorpion. Now, life is wonderfully full. I’ve been married to David Foster since 2019, and we’re raising our son, Rennie, who’s already showing a real passion for music. We’re letting him explore naturally, but I secretly hope he follows in David’s footsteps and becomes proficient in all kinds of instruments – he’s definitely showing potential! It’s so exciting to watch him discover his own creative path.

Following his appearance on American Idol, season five finalist Elliott Yamin achieved success with the song “Wait for You.” He then traveled to Angola, working with former Idol judge Kara DioGuardi to support Malaria No More. In 2010, Yamin also gained attention for surviving the earthquake in Chile and sharing his experience on Twitter. He continues to create music and is a father to Camilla, with Karen Cruz.

Kellie Pickler gained recognition after placing sixth on the fifth season of American Idol. She went on to star in the Hallmark movie Christmas in Graceland and received three Daytime Emmy nominations for her TV show, Pickler & Ben.
Following the tragic death of her husband, Kyle Jacobs, in February 2023, Pickler shared a valuable lesson he taught her. She told People magazine that he advised her, “If you’re facing a crisis and don’t know what to do, just be still.” She explained that she’s choosing to follow his advice during this difficult time.

The winner of season six made a big impact in 2007 as the youngest female to ever win. She toured 35 U.S. cities with her show and then made her Broadway debut in 2010 with In the Heights. Her success continued, and in May 2018, she and Dana Isaiah welcomed their first son. Since then, she’s returned to Idol and competed on season 31 of Dancing With the Stars.

David, winner of season seven, found success with his hit song “Time of My Life,” but he’s also made a difference outside of music. In 2010, he traveled to Ethiopia with the United Nations to support their work empowering women. He also participated in the Race for Hope in Washington D.C., raising funds for brain cancer research in memory of his brother, Adam, who passed away in 2009. Since marrying Racheal Stump in 2015, David continues to tour and released his latest single, “TABOS,” in 2022.

After placing second on season seven of a singing competition, he spent two years serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chile. He resumed performing after returning in 2014.
He publicly came out as LGBTQ+ in June 2021. In an October 2023 Instagram post, he shared, “It’s been a beautiful journey learning to accept myself,” and expressed hope that living openly would inspire others to do the same.

While Adam Lambert received a lot of attention as a runner-up, season eight’s winner has steadily found success with his second album, released in November 2009. The album debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200 chart, and his single, “I Need to Know,” was used in an episode of The Vampire Diaries. He’s also been busy growing his family, welcoming three children with his wife, Katy O’Connell, whom he’s been with since high school.

The runner-up from the eighth season of the show has achieved remarkable success. Since appearing on the competition, he’s released multiple albums, gone on tour, and received numerous award nominations. He’s even followed in the footsteps of Freddie Mercury, becoming the lead singer for Queen, and starred in a remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He also briefly served as a guest judge on Idol and kicked off the 2019 Oscars with a performance of Queen’s classic songs, “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions.”

Danny Gokey married Leyicet Peralta in 2012, following his appearance on season eight of American Idol. They now have four children together.
Danny Gokey, a three-time Grammy nominee, put out a Christian music album called Jesus People in 2021. He’s also the founder of an eyewear brand, Danny Gokey Eyewear.

Following his appearance as a top 10 finalist on the summer tour in 2010, the season nine winner began his career as a solo musician. He married model and actress Jonna Walsh in 2012 after meeting her while filming the music video for his first song after Idol. Today, he’s a successful singer-songwriter whose music has been featured in popular shows like The Walking Dead.

The singer, who finished as a runner-up on season nine of a singing competition, married musician Brian Walker and released her debut album, Farmer’s Daughter, in December 2010. Though she lost her record deal when RCA closed Arista, J Records, and Jive Records, she began acting, appearing on the second season of ABC’s Body of Proof.
In May 2013, she and her husband separated. Following their divorce, she told The Boot that her second album, All That For This, represented a fresh start in her life.

The winner of season 10 was the first American Idol champion since Ruben Studdard to have a debut album, Clear as Day, reach the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart. He was named New Artist of the Year at the 2011 American Country Awards and performed the national anthem at Game 1 of the World Series that year. In June 2018, the singer of hits like “This Is It” and “Five More Minutes” married his longtime girlfriend, Gabi Dugal. They had a son, Avery, in October 2022.

Though she came in second place on the show, this country singer quickly signed a record deal and released her first album, Wildflower, in October 2011. After appearing on the show, she performed at the CMT Music Awards with the winner, made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry, and even shared the stage with Martina McBride at the CMA Music Festival.
In 2017, she received her first CMA nomination for Best New Artist thanks to the success of her album, Road Less Traveled. She also expanded her career into acting, starring in a movie with the same title.
More recently, the singer announced her engagement to Cam Arnold while performing at the Grand Ole Opry in November 2022, and they were married in February 2024.

Although he only placed sixth in season 10, this contestant became a fan favorite. He joined the Idols Live tour and recorded a duet of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with fellow finalist Haley Reinhart, with whom he was romantically linked. He eventually signed with the jazz label Concord. His first self-titled album came out in 2012, followed by I Put A Spell On You in 2018 and Jazz in 2019.

I’ve been a huge Jimmie Allen fan since he was on American Idol – even though he didn’t make it through the live shows in season 10, he really proved everyone wrong! He went on to have two incredible number one songs, “Best Shot” and “Make Me Want To,” and even won the CMA’s New Artist of the Year award in 2021.
But the past year has been so tough to watch as a fan. In April 2023, he and Alexis announced they were expecting their third child, but also that they were getting divorced after two years of marriage. Then, just a month later, his former manager filed a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault and abuse. He admitted to having an affair and publicly apologized to Alexis for the pain he caused, but denied the abuse allegations, claiming the relationship with his manager was consensual.
Despite everything, it’s been amazing to see them trying to work things out! They welcomed their son, Cohen Ace James, in September and have since shared that they’re trying to repair their marriage. I’m really hoping they can find their way back to each other.

Following his victory on season 11, the musician’s single, “Home,” became a chart-topping hit and was featured as the theme song for NBC’s 2012 Summer Olympics coverage. In 2015, he married Hannah Blackwell in a private ceremony with loved ones. They later welcomed their son, Patch, in 2019.

Before releasing her album, Whirlwind, in 2019—a year after winning season 16 of Idol—the artist told TopMob News that the record features a variety of different sounds. She explained that she enjoys experimenting with different styles and didn’t want to limit herself to just one.

Since finishing as a finalist on season 16 of the show, the singer has been busy creating new music and taking advantage of the opportunities that came with being on ABC. Caleb Lee told TopMob News he’s always been passionate about music and dreamed of being a performer, but the show taught him a lot about the entertainment industry. He even had the chance to join Luke Bryan on stage during his final tour stop. Caleb released his latest album, Southern Galactic, in October 2023.

Following her third-place finish on season 16 of Idol, singer Gabby Barrett dedicated herself to completing her album. She expressed her excitement about performing at Stagecoach and called touring with Brad Paisley a fantastic bonus. “It’s crazy to be touring with him,” she told TopMob News.
Nearly two years after welcoming their daughter Baylah with her husband Cade Foehner, the couple had their son Augustine in October 2022. They expanded their family again in February 2024 with the arrival of their third child.
