Kelly Ripa Censored on Live Broadcast for Curse Word in On-Air Slip Up

Mark Conseulos knows what he’s wearing on Christmas Eve—if he wants to keep his wife happy.

Kelly Ripa revealed a quirky holiday tradition she insists her husband follow, and the comment was a bit too revealing for ABC, leading them to censor it with a bleep.

I typically buy personalized pajamas for everyone to wear on Christmas Eve,” the 55-year-old explained on the November 21st episode of the show Live With Kelly and Mark. She shares her children – Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22 – with her ex-partner. “He only wears them once a year, just for me.”

Kelly turned to Sebastian Maniscalco and said, “Honestly, I don’t ask for a lot. But you haven’t done anything to help with the holiday – no shopping, no baking, no setting up. Just put on the pajamas!”

Mark has one main job during Christmas: he’s in charge of cleaning up all the wrapping paper after presents are opened.

Mark Conseulos knows what he’s wearing on Christmas Eve—if he wants to keep his wife happy.

Kelly Ripa revealed a quirky holiday tradition she insists her husband follow, and the comment was a bit unexpected for television, leading ABC to censor it with a bleep.

Every year, I love getting personalized pajamas for everyone to wear on Christmas Eve. It’s become a tradition! My husband, though – he only wears his set once a year, just to make me happy. I told Kelly and Mark about it on their show recently. We have three kids – Michael, who’s 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22 – and it’s something special we all do together.

Kelly turned to Sebastian Maniscalco and said, “Honestly, I’m not asking for a lot. You haven’t helped with the holiday at all – you haven’t bought anything, baked anything, or even set anything up. Just put on the pajamas!”

Mark has one main job during Christmas: he’s in charge of cleaning up all the wrapping paper after presents are opened.

“Quietly, as people are unwrapping, I put it in,” he said. “I hide bags around.”

His wife explained that he keeps pulling the trash bag out from under the sofa, comparing him to the Grinch stealing Christmas right in the middle of the holiday.

This year, Mark is considering a different approach to Christmas – he’s been thinking about not giving gifts to their grown children, which could mean a lot less waste.

Oh my gosh, did you hear what he said on Live with Kelly and Mark?! He basically admitted he’s stopped buying gifts for his kids! Can you believe it? He just straight-up said, ‘Kids are old now. I’m not getting them anything.’ Like, they’re grown up enough to just get cash! It’s so… him, honestly. I’m still reeling!

The 54-year-old then appeared to have a change of heart after Kelly questioned the idea.

“I don’t know. That sounds bad,” Mark noted. “That sounds really bad.”

But the one non-negotiable remains those festive pajamas—at least in Kelly’s mind.

With the holidays approaching, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are sharing some surprisingly candid stories. Here’s a peek into their honest confessions…

Kelly Ripa jokingly complained on her show, Live! With Kelly, back in February 2017, that her husband, Mark Consuelos, gets irritable with her after they spend intimate time together. She said he becomes short-tempered and she finds it strange. While Kelly later said she was just kidding, Mark felt the need to respond when the comment became a trending topic. He playfully defended himself by stating that someone who is unconscious can’t be mean—and that he often is sound asleep! Kelly then clarified that she didn’t mean ‘mean’ literally, but rather that he seems completely disinterested, as if he were still asleep.

Oh my gosh, it’s SO clear why Michael, Lola, and Joaquin are practically ninjas when it comes to social media! I mean, can you imagine the embarrassment? I remember when Mark announced he was taking over the Riverdale Instagram back in 2019, and Kelly’s comment was just the cutest – “Daddy, I love when you take over!” – but honestly, it’s probably mortifying for the kids! It totally explains why Kelly is so sure they’ve scrubbed every trace of the family from their feeds. She even told TopMob News in 2023 that they’ve blocked them on everything – any channel that even mentions their names! They block them any way they can, and honestly? I get it! It’s a survival tactic when your parents are them!

After Kelly shared some old Halloween photos in 2020—featuring her husband, Mark, and a friend dressed as CHiPs officers—people noticed how snug Mark’s pants looked. He jokingly claimed the bulge was just a shadow, which prompted Kelly to playfully question him about it. Later, on the show Daily Pop, host Justin Sylvester teased that was why they had a lasting marriage, and Kelly agreed it was definitely a contributing factor, ranking it among the top three reasons!

Kelly jokingly admitted she now meticulously checks every family photo before posting it online. This habit started after the overwhelming response to their Halloween pictures. When a commenter noticed how thoughtfully she’d shared photos from a 2020 vacation, Kelly playfully responded, saying she’s extremely careful about what she posts, and it can be a bit restrictive – though she’s not actually upset about it.

Kelly revealed the key to her nearly 30-year marriage and raising three children: “Love and intimacy.” She shared this during an appearance on the show Live! in 2021.

Mark and Kelly were talking about the show Scenes From a Marriage when they revealed how they personally cope with stress as a couple.

Kelly described how issues wouldn’t escalate in her and Mark Consuelos’ marriage because Mark immediately addresses and resolves any problems. She explained he’d quickly step in to comfort anyone feeling upset, unwell, or overwhelmed, saying he always knows how to help. Mark interjected, stating that everything is settled with ‘love,’ and Kelly playfully added ‘and sexy time,’ though Mark clarified it’s not everything, Kelly conceded it’s ‘just about almost everything.’

Kelly admitted she’s not a fan of morning intimacy, especially when it comes to her husband Mark, who prefers it. “I find it disgusting,” she said on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast in July 2025. She makes it clear that their sex life needs to be balanced. “I told him, ‘We need to meet in the middle. It can’t always be what you want. It feels like 90% of the time it is, and now that we work together every day, it needs to be my way sometimes—and my way is only at night.'” Luckily, their early morning work schedule on Live has unintentionally solved the problem. “This job has almost turned him off to morning sex during the week—which is amazing,” she said.

Okay, so I’m a huge fan of both Mark and Kelly, and it was hilarious seeing his comment on her latest Instagram post! She shared a picture wearing this amazing rainbow sequin sweatshirt that said “More Glitter, Less Twitter,” and Mark playfully questioned whether the first letter on her shirt was a ‘G’ or a ‘C,’ adding he was “asking for a friend.” It was such a cute and funny interaction – totally their vibe!

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen families share sweet moments online, but Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos really took the cake with their son Joaquin’s 18th birthday! Mark posted a heartfelt tribute, and Kelly’s comment? Let’s just say it was very honest! She playfully reminisced about the ‘fun’ of making Joaquin, and then Mark chimed in with a hilarious detail – apparently, their romantic getaway to Montreal played a key role in the whole process! It’s a wonderfully candid and funny story that really shows their playful dynamic as a couple and family.

During a September 2022 episode of Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen playfully questioned his friend about where he and Mark had been intimate, playing a game called “Have You Schtupped There?” The answer was a definite yes to several locations. They’d been intimate in a public bathroom and even on the set of their old soap opera, All My Children, as well as on a boat – a boat Cohen jokingly pointed out used to frequent the area near his home.

Although Cohen teased that their public displays of affection suggested they’d been everywhere, Kelly revealed a few places remained untouched. They hadn’t (yet) gotten intimate in a car, a department store dressing room, or on the set of their talk show.

Kelly has a playful side, and she admits to enjoying elaborate intimacy with her partner. During the pandemic, while she was in New York City for work and he was filming Riverdale in Vancouver, they developed some unusual routines. On her podcast, Let’s Talk Off Camera, Kelly shared that she became self-conscious about how she looked on video calls. To combat this, she rigged up her computer on a ladder so the angle would be more flattering, preventing her partner from seeing the effects of gravity!

Kelly Ripa made a joke about the scandal involving former GMA3 co-hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, who had a romantic relationship that led to their departure from the show. She said that she and her husband, Mark Consuelos, are being extra careful now that he’s co-hosting ‘Live’ with her. On ‘Watch What Happens Live’ in April 2023, Kelly playfully stated they’ve “taken a vow of chastity” while working together, because ABC doesn’t want any romantic relationships between on-screen talent. She joked, “So, we promise, no banging on the side.”

After their youngest son, Joaquin, went to college in 2021, Kelly and Mark adjusted to having an empty house. “We’d fallen into a routine of just doing whatever we wanted, leaving doors open and being relaxed,” Kelly explained to TopMob News in June 2023. “Then, suddenly, Lola returned from London, and we had to start locking things up again. And when Joaquin was home for the summer, we had to lock up again too!”

Things got even more interesting when Kelly’s parents came to stay with them in New York. The lack of privacy meant they had to find creative ways to get some alone time. “You wouldn’t believe what we did,” she joked.

When Lola returned home to live with her parents for her final college semester, she fell into the habit of entering their bedroom without knocking, which they wanted to stop. In typical Mark fashion, he playfully warned their daughter about what she might find if she continued to walk in unannounced.

During a January 2023 episode of Live, Mark joked, “Be warned, Lola Consuelos. ‘Cause this week’s freaky week, isn’t it?” Kelly laughed and asked why this week was special, to which Mark replied with a smile, “It is now.”

The playful warning stemmed from a conversation Mark had with Lola after she repeatedly entered their room without knocking. He explained to her, “I said, ‘Lola, I don’t want you to take this the wrong way. I’m very excited you’re home, we missed you, you’re the heart of this family, you’re so funny and fantastic, but you have to knock.'”
