Kevin Federline is detailing his relationship with ex-wife Britney Spears’ family.

In his new memoir, You Thought You Knew, the rapper known as “Popozão” revealed two long text messages his wife, Victoria Prince, reportedly received from Jamie Lynn Spears, Britney Spears’ sister. These messages were sent after Britney’s controversial legal guardianship ended in November 2021.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the Spears family closely, and recent reports from a preview of Jamie Lynn’s book are quite revealing. Apparently, she responded to Britney’s public statements – what some are calling a ‘lash out’ – regarding her sons, Sean Preston, who’s 20, and Jayden James, 19. TopMob News shared a copy of the book, and it seems Jamie Lynn is addressing the situation directly.

Jamie Lynn reportedly texted Victoria, saying she was deeply affected by what those boys were going through. She explained that, as someone ten years younger than her sister, she could only imagine how difficult it must be for her children. She related to the feeling of being overshadowed and having to fend for yourself when someone else causes problems, like a small boat struggling to stay afloat in the wake of a larger ship.

Kevin, 47, said that Zoey 101 star Britney, 43, faced his resentment due to the impact her actions had on their sons. He claims she struggled to take responsibility for her role in certain situations.

The message went on to say she was still struggling to understand how someone could be so self-absorbed. She explained that she’d always prioritized her sister Britney and, wanting to avoid conflict as the younger sibling, had quietly worked to establish her own life and career. She always aimed to be supportive, but also to protect her own well-being.

After Victoria married a former backup dancer in 2013, she reportedly received another message from Jamie Lynn. This came after Jamie Lynn bought Jayden a piano as a Christmas gift that same year.

She texted Victoria, as Kevin shared, saying she’s repeatedly wanted to express how grateful she is that Victoria and her partner have raised her sons to be polite, thankful, and kind. She explained that any parent knows raising children is incredibly difficult, and Victoria and her partner are doing that while also protecting their kids from a lot of hardship that others can’t even imagine.

Sources claim Jamie Lynn also stated that no amount of wealth could ever adequately thank Kevin and Victoria for stepping up and doing the things Britney wasn’t willing to do as a mother.

Jamie Lynn reportedly wrote that she knows her sister hasn’t properly thanked everyone for raising her children and for continuing to let her be involved in their lives, even when it might have been difficult. She wanted to express how much everyone’s support and kindness are valued by those who care about the boys.

TopMob News has reached out to Jamie Lynn’s rep for comment but has not heard back.

Before her book came out, Britney publicly accused her ex-husband, Kevin, of repeatedly manipulating her and making her doubt herself, describing the experience as deeply painful and draining.

In a post on X on October 15th, she shared her longing to be involved in her sons’ lives. She acknowledged that having relationships with teenage boys can be challenging, and expressed feeling disheartened by the situation, explaining she’s consistently asked and pleaded to remain a part of their lives.

Britney called her ex’s memoir a collection of falsehoods, and emphasized that she’s the only one truly affected by it.

“I speak on this because I have had enough,” she concluded, “and any real woman would do the same.”

Kevin and Britney briefly met when he was a backup dancer for the opening act of her tour, LFO. However, they didn’t really connect until they ran into each other at a Hollywood nightclub called Joseph’s in April 2004 while out with friends.

Kevin remembered chatting briefly before they started dancing. It wasn’t anything crazy, just some lighthearted fun. He admitted that, at 25, he was mostly focused on having a good time.

Oh my gosh, you guys, after the party, Kevin took everyone to the Beverly Hills Hotel! He said he and Britney actually chilled in her *private* bungalow, right by the hot tub, while all their friends were splashing around in the pool. It sounds like total heaven, honestly! I can just picture them… it’s everything!

Kevin described how Britney pulled him from the pool area into the bungalow. Once inside, she immediately became intimate, removing her underwear and passionately kissing him while ripping at his clothes. They awkwardly made their way towards the bed as he fumbled to get his pants off.

He described their encounter as intensely physical, explaining that they were swept up in a strong, immediate connection. He said it was all about passion and a powerful, almost electric, chemistry between them.

Britney publicly responded to Kevin’s book, calling it “extremely hurtful and exhausting.” Before this, her representative told TopMob News that Britney’s only concern is the well-being of her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, amidst all the public attention surrounding the book.

Kevin explained that he and Britney spent several days privately at her hotel bungalow before the paparazzi discovered they were a couple while they were at the beach. These photos ultimately reached Shar, who was pregnant with their second child at the time.

Okay, so finally getting her on the phone… I was a wreck! Seriously, I was pacing like a caged animal, my heart was absolutely hammering. I just *had* to tell her about Britney, about this incredible connection we shared, and how I couldn’t just pretend it wasn’t happening. And when I did… oh man, you could just *hear* the pain in her voice, the way it shattered her. She was furious, of course, but beneath all the anger, I could feel this overwhelming sadness. In retrospect, Kevin admitted he should have been more honest about his unhappiness with Shar in their relationship.

I avoided dealing with problems directly, hoping they would just fade away. I thought creating distance would make things simpler, but it only postponed what had to happen. The dancer said Britney first mentioned getting married on the plane ride back to the U.S. after finishing the European part of her tour.

He recalled being in first class, enjoying cocktails and a conversation about life, when suddenly, she proposed. He admitted he initially reacted with laughter, trying to appear calm, and ultimately turned her down.

Kevin noticed Britney seemed a bit surprised, but they didn’t discuss it until after she hurt her knee in June 2004. The injury forced her to cancel the rest of her tour so she could have surgery.

Kevin, who stayed with Britney while she recovered, kept thinking about a conversation they’d had on the plane. He replayed her words in his mind, questioning whether he’d dismissed them too quickly. Once Britney felt better and was considering flying again, he finally found the courage to answer a question she’d asked him weeks before.

“We didn’t even have a ring,” Kevin explained. “It began with a genuine conversation, where we both realized we wanted the same future together. We were simply sitting there, fully present, and decided we were ready to get married.”

According to Kevin, Britney Spears called her former boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, the night before their wedding in October 2004 to try and resolve some lingering issues.

I assumed she was speaking with her mother or sister, so I returned to the room. When she came back, it was clear she had been upset and crying.

Kevin shared that Britney told him she was speaking with Justin and felt she needed to call him to close one part of her life and move forward.

 

You know, I’ve been following the Britney and Justin story for years, and Kevin recently shared some interesting insights. He said Britney told him she reached out to Justin seeking closure, but honestly, he doesn’t think she ever truly moved on from their split back in 2002. It sounds like that breakup with Justin really stayed with her, even after all this time.

In his book, Kevin explained that even after they got married, his wife hadn’t completely gotten over her ex, Justin. He noticed Justin’s name would come up frequently in conversations, and he could tell a part of her still had feelings for him.

I always got the sense she might have cared for him, but she was clearly still hung up on Justin. It was heartbreaking, honestly. Being with someone who’s still carrying a torch for another person… you just *feel* it, even if she never admitted it. There was no way I could ever compete with that lingering connection.

By early 2006, the couple had a son named Sean Preston and were expecting another child, Jayden James. Kevin later revealed that problems were already surfacing in their relationship, citing a disagreement about his marijuana use as one example.

Kevin described how Britney suddenly entered the bedroom, carrying Preston, and immediately began yelling at him. He said she was fully aware of who he was when they got married, but she was extremely angry and started shouting. She then slapped him while still holding their son.

He believes Britney filed for divorce secretly because her publicists worried another split, especially after her breakup with Justin Timberlake, would make her look like the one being left.

 

Before the widely publicized incident where Britney Spears shaved her head – which she explained was a reaction to being constantly judged for her appearance – her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, claimed she unexpectedly came to his home, repeatedly ringing the doorbell and speaking incoherently.

Honestly, reading Kevin’s book just broke my heart. He explained how she was really struggling, and he knew the kids couldn’t possibly understand what was happening to her. He was so worried about frightening them, about them seeing their mom like that… it was such a selfless thing, protecting them from something they were way too young to process. It just shows how much he loved them both, even when things were falling apart. I can barely read it without crying!

You know, when things got really tough for Britney, I heard she impulsively went to a local hair salon – just a regular neighborhood place – and actually shaved her head. It was a really raw and emotional moment, and showed how much she was struggling at the time.

Kevin wrote that pictures from that time quickly spread around—images of her shaved head and the intense look on her face. He said that was precisely the same energy she’d had when she came to his gate before.

Kevin wrote that “it was obvious” his ex favored their youngest son over their oldest.

The father explained that Preston felt left out because Jayden consistently received more of their mother’s attention. While he believed she loved both children, her behavior showed a clear preference for Jayden.

In turn, “Preston carried that pain for years,” according to Kevin.

He described how Preston continued to be haunted by childhood night terrors, a constant need for comfort, and the belief that he wasn’t loved as much as his brother. Even as Preston grew up and learned to express his emotions, those early experiences left lasting wounds.

Responding to Kevin’s memoir, Britney shared on X in October 2025 that relationships with teenage boys can be difficult. She expressed feeling hurt by the situation, explaining she consistently wanted her sons to be involved in her life, but they often saw how her father disrespected her.

As the boys grew up, Kevin explained that they started sharing stories about Britney that revealed a pattern of her trying to control them and prevent them from being independent.

Kevin claimed Britney would take their son Jayden horseback riding, even though he was severely allergic to horses.

He explained that she kept giving Jayden shellfish despite knowing he had an allergy, dismissing the danger as unimportant. He also shared that Preston had once told him she physically assaulted him, punching him in the face.

Kevin claimed his former partner unexpectedly entered his house, describing her as having a torn shirt with one breast exposed.

He described how she held a single purple diaper – for Jayden, who hadn’t used diapers in over a year. Preston immediately ran to the basement to hide. Then, Britney entered, took Jayden, and sat him on the couch, beginning to remove his clothes.

Kevin said Britney left after the kids’ nanny stepped in.

 

Kevin wrote that while Britney saw the boys often, her life was always chaotic. He recalled one instance where they came home with severely bleached hair – not just highlights, but bleached all the way to their scalps, resulting in burned skin.

In another part of his memoir, Kevin recalls that Preston was around 10 or 11 years old when he came to him, confused and upset about his mother making him bathe with her.

He said it was obvious the person was uneasy. He explained that by the time the boys reached their teenage years, they had stopped wanting to visit their mother’s home.

Kevin said Preston and Jayden eventually recorded “incidents” with Britney on their phones. 

As a longtime fan, it was really upsetting to hear about what happened. Apparently, there’s a video of Britney getting frustrated with Preston because he didn’t want to wear a certain shirt for a picture she wanted to post on Instagram. Then, another video surfaced showing her scolding him in the car, even using harsh language, and then immediately switching to talking to Jayden like he was a baby. It’s just heartbreaking to see.

Kevin said Jayden had a video showing Britney applying lotion to his face while he was still waking up at night.

Kevin said she filmed herself shouting at him, demanding respect, and angrily confronting him. He also explained that she often woke him up during the night, making him come to her room either to keep her from being alone or to watch films together.

Honestly, one story really stuck with me – it was incredibly unsettling. Apparently, Preston and Jayden were woken up to find Britney just standing in their doorway, silently watching them. The creepiest part? She reportedly said, ‘Oh, you’re awake?’…and she was holding a knife. It’s one of those things that gives you chills just thinking about it.

After Kevin publicly criticized her, Britney responded on X (formerly Twitter) in October 2025, saying, “Those little lies in his book are benefiting him financially, and I’m the one who’s really getting hurt. I still love my family, and anyone who truly knows me understands that the rumors about my mental health and drinking aren’t true.”

Kevin wrote that his mother’s visits always ended in arguments. His sons had simply had enough of the yelling and didn’t want to continue experiencing it.

Kevin explained that his sons seemed very upset during that period, and their visits with Britney gradually decreased until they eventually stopped.

I’ll never forget the night it finally happened. After what felt like one too many scary visits, my sons came home and just said, ‘That’s it. We’re not going back.’ The relief was instant – you could practically *feel* the tension leave our house. It was like they’d been stretched between two different lives, and finally, they were just…home, and safe.

Kevin said the boys have grown up a lot and now understand their mom and what she’s going through much better. They’ve also become more emotionally aware, learning how to handle situations and protect their feelings by knowing when to get involved and when to give each other space.

That’s why he said they continue to stay off social media and live life out of the spotlight.

Kevin described his son, Preston, 20, as a thoughtful and sensitive person – calm, creative, and passionate about music. He also shared that Preston has an incredibly close relationship with his brother, Jayden, who is now 19.

Preston is still living in Hawaii, where the family moved in 2023, but Jayden has returned to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music, his father Kevin says.

Seeing them support each other and blossom into their best selves has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m so proud of how they’ve both grown.
