For Khloe Kardashian, keeping up with her past came with a cost.
Certainly, the Kardashian TV personality recounted the intense emotions that reemerged upon meeting her former spouse Lamar Odom again after nearly a decade apart.
Khloe, aged 41, clarified during her July 30th podcast episode of Khloe in Wonder Land on X, “That encounter was incredibly exhausting for me. A decade apart is strange, but the complexity of meeting that person again and being filmed added to the mix.
Plus, it was hard to see a new version of someone she previously knew so well.
She remarked, “It was disconcerting since he felt so unfamiliar to me.” Even though we hadn’t met, it seemed like I knew him intimately. I never thought I’d feel uncomfortable being around someone with whom I shared such deep understanding.
Apart from defending herself against criticism, she made it clear that the reunion featuring her close friends Malika Haqq and Kris Jenker, which aired on the season six premiere of The Kardashians, was not an unwanted situation for Lamar. She wanted to stress this point.
She explained, “He wasn’t just aware of the cameras; he deliberately chose when they were set up and everything else. He was quite content with the cameras being present.
In 2016, Khloe admitted that although Lamar, the former NBA player, was fine with the encounter, she personally felt uneasy because his actions reminded her of something that made her feel uncomfortable.
The Good American co-founder described the incident as feeling extremely surreal, almost like she was observing from outside her own body. During her marriage to Lamar, when he would arrive late, showing signs of his self-destructive behaviors, these incidents would take her back to their past married life. She clarified that it’s not necessarily suggesting he was using drugs, but if his lateness was organic, it would remind her of those difficult times.
She mentioned, “On the very day when he was perspiring, Malika’s air conditioner malfunctioned.” She continued, “Those circumstances struck a chord with me for some reason. They set off an alarm bell, if you will. I believe my instinctive response was to switch on my protective gear, so to speak, and safeguard myself. In a sense, I lost consciousness, and I found myself operating on autopilot.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d say: Khloe, mom to True (7) and Tatum (3), recently met up with her ex-husband Lamar. This encounter was a positive move, but any future reunions would need a change in circumstances for it to work out effectively.
I’d consider reconnecting with him privately at some point, to gauge where things might lead. Words seem redundant now; it’s mostly a matter of feelings.
Regarding Lamar, after the meeting, he disclosed that he’s open to exploring a new type of bond with his former spouse.
He expressed, during his interview on the Kyle & Jackie O Show in January, that a significant amount of time has elapsed. He went on to suggest that people can undergo changes, and sometimes, it’s beneficial to move forward. He used the term ‘healthy’ to describe this transition, emphasizing that he would consider it a blessing to maintain a friendly relationship with her, simply for the opportunity to be in her presence.

According to the founder of The Good American brand, it was her sister Kim Kardashian and mother Kris Jenner who informed her that both Lamar Odom and Tristan Thompson had been unfaithful in their relationship with her.
Khloe clarified that Kim was aware of the cheating incidents, as far as I’m concerned. It seems that Kim discovered it first, which is surprising. Later on, my mother also knew details about the situation with my ex-husband before I did, and she had to inform me about it.

Khloe’s marriage with Lamar, which was officially terminated in 2016 despite their separation in 2013 due to a near-fatal overdose by Lamar in 2015, had some very difficult periods in her life. However, she also cherishes certain memories from that time.
She expressed, “That chapter was truly exceptional in my life,” but also emphasized, “It stripped me of a significant part of my naivety. Experiences came my way that I could never have imagined would cross my path.
She mused, “In your twenties, it feels like love is everything, but looking back, I believe it was the right person at the wrong moment in time. I have an abundance of affection for Lamar, and each relationship, good or bad, has shaped me profoundly. They’ve made me more understanding and compassionate, molding me into a different version of myself.
In the case of Khloe, she openly expressed her remorse regarding her relationship with Tristan following the 2018 infidelity scandal, a revelation that came just two days after they welcomed their daughter, True.
She shared that the most difficult aspect of the past event was her belief that she had let down her younger sisters, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner. She recalled their words, “He’s going to do this again. Don’t stay with him,” and felt the disappointment in them. Though they would never directly express this to her, she always sensed that she had disappointed them by continuing in a similar situation.
She continued, “I’m still deeply regretful about that incident, as I’ve always been their protective older sibling. The second one might have caused a greater pain since I experienced it over a longer duration and perhaps I harbor more embarrassment regarding the second scandal because I had a sense it would recur.
Reflecting on her past actions, the 40-year-old woman, who gave birth to her son Tatum with Tristan in 2022, confessed that she “avoided dealing with the problem” during the initial scandal.
She shared that her desire was to experience the happiness she’s longed for, with a newly born child, and to have her partner present as well. She added that it’s simple to pass judgment when one hasn’t walked in those shoes.
In December of 2021, Tristan and Khloe Kardashian started their surrogacy process to add Tatum to their family. However, during this time, Tristan also fathered a 3-year-old son named Theo with Maralee Nichols. The couple eventually parted ways permanently in the year 2022.
