Sobaka Studio announced that their quick-action roguelike game is coming to the Nintendo Switch on December 9th.
KIBORG became available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (through Steam and the Epic Games Store) on April 30th.
Here is an overview of the game, via its store pages:
About
KIBORG is a fast-paced game that blends intense action, roguelite replayability, and a story-driven focus on managing your time. Set in a gritty sci-fi world, you’ll send disposable clones on randomly generated missions, quickly upgrading them with cybernetics to fight hordes of mutants, criminals, and robots. Collect resources to improve your base, team up with allies, research powerful tech, and brace yourself for a looming disaster.
Story
You are Morgan Lee, leading a group of rebels on Sigma, a prison planet. Once home to the galaxy’s worst criminals, Sigma is now sealed off forever after the discovery of a dangerous, ever-changing substance – a swarm of nano-bots infected by a hostile alien. Years later, the planet is fractured, with different groups battling for control.
At the start of the game, a huge disaster rocks Sigma: the protective barrier around the planet’s only major city is broken. This city isn’t just a prison for criminals; it also houses the headquarters of the corporations that control the planet, meaning everyone is now trapped. As systems begin to fail and chaos spreads, the different groups within the city are forced to fight for their own survival.
Gameplay Structure
In KIBORG, time is constantly passing. Every mission takes a full day, no matter how it goes, and new disasters happen regularly. You’ll need to think carefully about what you do, weighing the potential risks and rewards. Every choice you make, win or lose, affects the story’s progression. There are no game overs or save files – you have to accept and deal with the results of your decisions.
Roguelite
As a player, I’m really loving how every mission feels fresh and unpredictable! They’re mostly created on the fly, so you never quite know what you’re going to run into. With so many different enemy types – seriously, dozens! – plus tons of little tweaks to how battles play out and a bunch of unexpected events, each mission feels totally unique. It keeps things exciting!
Better Killing Through Tech
Vasiliy uses an advanced device called The Cradle to send clones of himself on dangerous missions. This keeps him safe, as he’s unharmed even if a clone is killed. These clones have a special nano-skeleton that allows them to absorb technology from defeated enemies and turn it into powerful cybernetic implants. With seven implant slots and eight different implants for each, there are thousands of unique combinations, making every playthrough visually distinct – a feature rarely seen in rogue-lite games. Plus, there are hundreds of hidden augmentations—small, invisible upgrades—that let you further customize your build!
Combat
When a fight breaks out, Vasiliy is just as skilled in close combat as he is with technology. The hand-to-hand fighting is both detailed and intense, offering many ways to defend and attack. You can dodge, block, and parry attacks, combine different moves and special abilities, and use the surroundings to your advantage. Choose from a variety of melee weapons for a brutal edge, or use powerful firearms. Just be careful with your resources – ammo is limited, weapons can break, blocking drains stamina, and special attacks require energy that you build up through regular attacks.
Take a Moment to Rest
Your base serves as a safe haven between adventures. You can interact with your diverse and interesting allies, eavesdrop on their chats or the latest news, find peace in the garden, showcase your hard-earned trophies, or hone your skills in virtual reality. You can also create powerful upgrades to boost your combat abilities.
Because in KIBORG, the clock is always ticking.
