A highly praised crime drama that first aired in 2001 may be coming back to television. The show was a critical success, and after ending in 2012, there’s now talk of a revival.
The show 24 spawned a franchise with two spinoffs, but Kiefer Sutherland hasn’t played counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer since the 2014 miniseries 24: Live Another Day. A potential revival could finally show what happened to his character. Sutherland has stated he’d be open to returning to the role if the revival moves forward.
Sutherland said he’d be thrilled to return. He really enjoys playing the character and would like to see the story reach a natural conclusion.
The actor acknowledged the show was complex, saying there were many elements to coordinate. He also praised producer Howard Gordon, stating that Gordon had created a storyline he found genuinely compelling and thrilling.
He reiterated his strong interest in the project, saying he’s definitely considered it before. However, he acknowledged that funding decisions rest with others, and he’ll respect their choices. He’d be very happy to move forward if the opportunity arises, but if not, he’s confident they’ll find alternative options.
The actor said a few months ago that the project was “really good and strong,” but also noted it was still a ways off from becoming a reality, much like his recent statements.
I was chatting with Kiefer Sutherland recently about the buzz around a potential 24 reboot, and he let slip that it’s definitely being discussed. He said they’re actively developing ideas, which is exciting! However, it’s not a done deal yet. Apparently, getting Disney – the company that owns 24 now – to greenlight it has been a bit of a challenge over the past few years. You can really feel how much he – and honestly, me too – loves that show and wants to bring it back.
Gordon acknowledged they’re heading in the right direction with the reboot, but they still haven’t decided on the overall plan. He explained he doesn’t want the show to be poorly received, stating it wouldn’t be fair to the series itself, the audience, or even to him.
Kiefer Sutherland Had a Busy 2025
There was speculation that the actor would play President Snow in the new Hunger Games movie, Sunrise on the Reaping, potentially following in the footsteps of his father, Donald Sutherland, who originally played the role. Ultimately, the filmmakers chose Ralph Fiennes instead. Regardless, Donald Sutherland already had other commitments for 2025, even without this film.
While known for his heroic role in the TV show 24, the actor recently explored a different side of himself in a smaller, independent film. In it, he portrayed a troubled veteran. The movie debuted on November 7th and has been well-received by critics.
He’s starring as a former actor in the new movie, which will be in theaters and available for rental on demand starting November 28th. Rebel Wilson also appears in the film.
