In just a few days, the Hill family is set to return to Arlen, Texas, with Hulu reviving “King of the Hill” for its fourteenth season. Set some time after the original series ended, characters Hank, Peggy, and Bobby find themselves at distinct phases in their lives. Due to Hank taking a job in Saudi Arabia, the Hills have been absent from Texas for a considerable period. This means they’ll experience a significant jolt on August 4th upon their return. In a recent interview, the creators of “King of The Hill” hinted that season fourteen might instigate a “Hill Family Feud.
According to Mike Judge, who co-created the series and voices the character Hank, there’s a new development coming up: a beer brewing competition between Hank and Bobby. As for why this particular storyline appeals to him, Judge shared his thoughts: “I enjoy seeing how Bobby has grown up and observing the dynamic between him and Hank as an adult. In the upcoming season, there’s an episode where Hank and Bobby compete in a brewing contest that I find particularly engaging. I believe it’s a strong episode and offers insights into the evolving family dynamics, and I find it satisfying.
The Future of Arlen, Texas
Reflecting on the resurgence of our beloved series, I can’t help but credit a 2017 gathering of the creators that sparked this exciting revival. The event was not only entertaining, but also ignited discussions about reviving the show or perhaps creating a spin-off. Greg and I found ourselves reminiscing about “King of the Hill,” and it seemed like revisiting this iconic series could be a fresh and fun endeavor. As we juggled various projects, conversations about the show always felt invigorating. The thought of exploring new aspects that would infuriate Hank, especially when we considered his extended stay abroad followed by his return home, and the idea of aging our characters, made me eager to dive back in. It feels like a fantastic opportunity to revisit this world once more.
The judge anticipates both old and new fans of “King of The Hill” will discover something amusing in the upcoming fourteenth season, expressing hope they’ll continue to find it as entertaining as before. For him, there are certain shows he enjoys simply for comfort-watching purposes, like how he used to watch “The Andy Griffith Show” or “The Beverly Hillbillies” when he was younger. More recently, “What We Do in the Shadows” has been a favorite in his household. He admits that he doesn’t take much away from these shows other than enjoying them and finding them amusing. Therefore, he hopes that “King of The Hill” will provide the same kind of entertainment for its viewers.
