The fourteenth season of *King of the Hill* did very well on Hulu, quickly becoming one of the platform’s most popular animated shows. After being off the air for about fifteen years, the show naturally had to evolve, and the revival has been a hit since its release earlier this year. However, some changes made in the new season haven’t pleased all fans, and they’ve been voicing their opinions online.
As a huge *King of the Hill* fan, I have to admit I was pretty surprised by some changes in the latest season, especially with Kahn! It was definitely a shock when they recast the role – Toby Huss, who originally voiced Kahn for so long, was replaced by Ronny Chieng. And honestly, the new season really leaned into Kahn’s personal struggles, revealing he’d been hiding a divorce from Minh. I’ve been seeing a lot of other fans feel the same way, and a recent Reddit discussion, titled “Popular Opinion – The Ruination of Kahn was unnecessary and kept the revival from perfection,” really hits on how disappointing the recasting felt for many of us. If you’re curious to see what people are saying about this big change to Kahn, you should check out that discussion!

The New Kahn Speaks
Before the fourteenth season of *King of the Hill* became available on Hulu, the new voice actor for Kahn revealed both his casting and the reason for the change. Comedian Jimmy O. Yang, who took over the role, explained on the ‘You Be Trippin” podcast that the previous actor, Tom Huss, was not of Asian descent, leading to the recasting. Although a fifteenth season hasn’t been announced, it’s likely Yang will return as Kahn if the show continues on Hulu.
Following the sad loss of Johnny Hardwick, Toby Huss, who previously voiced Kahn, has now taken on the role of Dale Gribble. While some fans may not be thrilled with the new voice for Kahn, Huss believes it’s a positive change that the show is now addressing questions that weren’t openly discussed in 1997. He feels it’s good for society to ask questions and be willing to correct past mistakes. Huss also shared that the producers were happy with his initial read of Dale Gribble and asked him to take over the role, which he found both touching and humbling.
