In the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, it was reported with sadness that Chuck Mangione, a renowned musician, passed away peacefully at his home in Rochester, New York, on July 22nd, 2025. The family released an official statement saying they are deeply saddened to announce this news.
In addition to their private conversations, Mangione’s family emphasized the unique bond Chuck had with music. They described his connection as a passionate romance filled with boundless energy, uninhibited excitement, and an infectious joy that shone through on stage. What truly set Chuck apart was his genuine affection for his global fans, which was evident in his frequent post-concert interactions. After every performance, he would sit at the edge of the stage for as long as necessary to sign autographs for those who stayed to meet him and the band.
In the TV show “King of the Hill,” Magione’s character showed his knack for self-deprecation using the fictional town of Arlen, Texas as a backdrop. Entering the series in its debut season, Chuck was the spokesperson for a store called “Mega Lo Mart,” which satirically represented large retail chains like Wal-Mart, Costco, and Target. Though mentioned in the final season, his last significant appearance was during “King of the Hill’s” eleventh season, where he performed at Lucky and Luanne’s wedding. In addition to this animated production, Magione also made guest appearances on live-action TV shows such as “Mangum P.I.,” “Sharon,” and “Lois & Bram’s Elephant Show.
In early 2023, it was announced that Mike Judge’s team behind the upcoming season 14 of King of the Hill had decided not to include voice actor Mangione in their revival.
