The highly anticipated return of “King of the Hill” on Hulu this summer is less than a month away, and a fresh promo for the upcoming series has unveiled the debut of Dale Gribble’s new voice actor within the show. In contrast to the original series, the revival will take place almost a decade later, presenting significantly altered versions of each character that were never shown in the past episodes. However, not only will there be significant changes on-screen, but also behind the scenes.
Sadly, Johnny Hardwick, the voice actor behind Dale Gribble on “King of the Hill,” passed away during the production of its upcoming episodes on Hulu. Although he had finished work for some episodes, a new voice actor will be stepping in to continue the series moving forward. To get a sneak peek of this new portrayal of Dale, fans of “King of the Hill” can listen to a first sample in Hulu’s “Coming Soon in 2025” promo at the 54-second mark. You can watch it below for a taste of what’s to come.
Who Is Dale’s New Voice Actor in King of the Hill?
As the highly-anticipated new season of “King of the Hill” approaches, it’s been announced that Toby Huss will step into the shoes of Dale Gribble for upcoming episodes. Huss was a significant presence in the original series, lending his voice to characters like Cotton Hill, Kahn Souphanousinphone, and numerous minor roles. Moreover, he had a close professional and personal relationship with the show’s creator, Greg Hardwick. During a panel at the ATX TV Festival this past summer, Huss expressed his feelings about taking on this role, stating that he doesn’t aim to mimic Hardwick’s performance but instead bring his own interpretation to the character.
In his words, “Johnny was unique and an exceptional individual.” Huss expressed. “I’m not attempting to imitate Johnny…I suppose I’m trying to embody him. He developed a truly wonderful, quirky character…he had a lot of heart with a touch of the unusual, which is a testament to Johnny. So all I’m aiming to do is preserve his essence. We deeply admire our friend Johnny and it’s tragic that he’s not with us anymore.” During the panel, King of the Hill co-creator Mike Judge also announced that Hardwick will appear in six episodes of the new series.
When Does King of the Hill’s Revival Come Out?
The popular animated series “King of the Hill” is set to return with a new revival season on both Hulu and Disney+’s libraries starting August 4th. This comeback will consist of ten episodes, making it Season 14. All episodes will be available simultaneously, although further seasons beyond this one have not been definitively confirmed at the moment. However, hints from the cast suggest that we might see a Season 15 and possibly even more seasons in the future, but those details are yet to be officially announced.
It has been revealed that the upcoming episodes of “King of the Hill” will offer fans an entirely new perspective on Arlen, Texas. Hulu hints at this transformation, stating that after spending years working in Saudi Arabia to save for their retirement, Hank and Peggy return home to find a dramatically altered Arlen. Their old friends Dale, Boomhauer, and Bill are still around, but Hank and Peggy must reconnect with them amid the changes. Meanwhile, Bobby is living his dream as a chef in Dallas and spending his twenties with his former classmates Connie, Joseph, and Chane.
