As an observer, I’ve just caught a glimpse of the first peek into the reboot of “King of the Hill,” set to grace our screens on Hulu this summer. Alongside this revelation, we’ve been treated to a sneak peek at Chane Wassanasong’s updated design for the adult characters. The upcoming Season 14 is set nearly a decade after the original series and promises a significant shift in the lives of our beloved characters, as they’ve grown older and find themselves in different stages of life. Even some unexpected character returns have been hinted at to usher in this new era.
Initially, when fans learned that Chane was reprising his role in the revamped “King of the Hill” series, set within Bobby’s adulthood, they were puzzled since their childhood was marked by a prolonged rivalry. However, it appears that their rivalry has been resolved over the years, as evidenced by the fact that they now co-own a restaurant together in the latest sneak peek of grown-up Chane. Take a look below to see for yourself.
What Is Chane’s Role in New King of the Hill?
In the newly released trailer for Season 14 of “King of the Hill,” a detailed view of adult Chane Wassong was shown alongside an updated design of his father, Ted. Notably, both characters are depicted in a lively gathering celebrating Bobby. The new trailer also offers a clearer glimpse into Bobby’s career as a chef at a Japanese and German fusion restaurant, as evidenced by the restaurant’s design and Bobby’s use of both German and Japanese to greet customers. It seems probable that this is where Chane will be playing a role.
In an electrifying atmosphere, I found myself drawn into a scene that hinted at either a grand opening gala or a significant investors’ meeting – a place where I was to intertwine my story with Bobby’s adult life. The restaurant where Bobby labored was none other than “Robata Chane,” and the presence of Chane and his father there subtly suggested that the Wassanasongs had somehow invested in Bobby’s dream. Despite our history of childhood rivalry, it seemed we had recognized our shared potential for mutual success as adults.
What Does This Mean for Bobby?
It’s worth noting that a significant part of Bobby and Chane’s childhood rivalry stemmed from their mutual affection for Connie. Since she was one of the few Laotian girls in the area, Chane’s parents encouraged him to date her, which Bobby eventually developed feelings for as his neighbor and friend. However, it appears that after many years have passed, their past disagreements over Connie no longer seem to be an issue. Given that Connie has also grown older and likely pursued her own aspirations as an adult, it’s reasonable to assume that she is following her dreams independently now.
At a recent ATX TV Festival discussion for “King of the Hill,” voice actress Lauren Tom hinted at changes coming for Connie in the upcoming series, stating, “I had to learn about an acronym, ENM. I had to ask my kids. Ethical non-monogamy. I didn’t anticipate Connie being that racier.” If this evolution also includes Chane and Bobby’s relationship dynamics after decades of squabbling over her, the new season may bring surprises beyond what “King of the Hill” fans usually anticipate when it returns on Hulu on August 4th.
