The beloved series “King of the Hill” is back, and it brings significant alterations for characters Hank and Peggy. Since the last series finale, the Hills have been living in Saudi Arabia due to a gas-related job offer. The creation of an American-style town there made it easier for them to adjust, although they did pay a price. Upon their return, Hank isn’t overly pleased with all the changes they encountered during their absence, and one of his most amusing complaints is downright hilarious.
Heed the alert: If you haven’t caught up with King of The Hill’s revival, brace yourself for some major spoilers ahead. Coming back to the U.S. was already a challenging endeavor, but Hank had an even tougher time adjusting to all the changes that occurred in the last eight years. In one amusing scene, Hank grumbles about the new road signs that prevent him from taking a U-turn to his house when he retrieves his old truck. As Hank laments, “I had to drive five blocks, make a left turn to go around two more blocks, and come back just to avoid making an illegal U-turn into our alley. This is preposterous. That’s an additional mile of driving.
The More Things Change
Over time, various events unfolded for Hank, not just the transformation of Arlen, Texas. Boomhauer found a new partner and became a parent figure, Dale took on the mayorship but stepped down due to election doubts, and Bill expanded his social circle after initially being bedridden upon their return. However, even after ten episodes in the revival, Hank and Peggy are yet to fully adjust to their new environment, hinting at more challenges ahead should a 15th season materialize.
Spending time in Saudi Arabia significantly influenced Hank’s personality too, as he developed an ardent affection for soccer – a passion often deemed unacceptable in Arlen, Texas. Despite his continued enthusiasm, Hank must conceal it. Interestingly, among the characters who have undergone the most transformation since the first thirteen seasons, Bobby stands out the most, maturing from a 13-year-old to a 21-year-old.
Bobby’s shift as a co-owner of a fusion restaurant brought about a significant dispute between him (as the chef) and his father, primarily due to Bobby’s insistence on not using propane for his cooking tasks. In a nod to the King of the Hill series, Bobby eventually recognizes the error of his ways and starts employing propane, bringing great joy to his father Hank. It seems that despite the changes in Arlen, certain traditions remain constant.
