King of the Hill,” though not a superhero tale, has made a comeback with its fourteenth season airing on Hulu this month, resurrecting Hank Hill. Previously, we discussed Arlen, Texas’s unique crossover with Mark Grayson and the world of “Invincible.” However, it’s not just the Viltrumite that Hank has encountered; he’s also had interactions with other extraterrestrials. Given that “Fantastic Four: First Steps” is still playing in cinemas, this is an ideal moment to revisit the time when Hank crossed paths with the Silver Surfer.
In 1998, when traditional Saturday morning cartoons were popular on Fox Kids, they hosted an event called “Fox Kids Heads For The Hills.” During this event, Hank Hill and other Arlen citizens had interactions with various cartoon characters that aired as part of their programming block. One of these encounters was between Hank Hill and Norrin Radd, which occurred due to the airing of the Silver Surfer cartoon at the time. This series consisted of thirteen episodes over one season, focusing on the character who heralded Galactus as he battled enemies like Thanos and numerous other formidable villains. Although Hank doesn’t join in the fight against Thanos, he does enlist the Silver Surfer to help promote propane and related products, as shown in the clip below.

It’s clear that Norrin Radd isn’t exploring the cosmos in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” instead it’s Shalla-Bal who is signaling Galactus. With Julia Garner stepping into the role, there’s a chance we might see Norrin in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe entry on “Earth 828.” Next year, “Avengers: Doomsday” promises to bring Marvel’s First Family closer to their main universe, as it seems Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben are facing some major issues.
Concerning Arlen, Texas, the fourteenth season of “King of the Hill” has kicked off strongly, earning universal praise from critics for its revival. At present, there’s no word on a fifteenth season, but with Hank and Peggy now back in the U.S., there are plenty of storylines to pursue moving forward. Interestingly enough, both the Hill family and the Silver Surfer are currently under Disney’s ownership, a situation that didn’t exist when they crossed paths on Fox Kids.
Although “King of the Hill” was shown on Fox Kids, it wasn’t part of the Saturday Morning programming block, except during this special crossover. However, many shows from Fox Kids often aired in primetime, with notable examples like “Spider-Man: The Animated Series” and “X-Men: The Animated Series” sometimes moving from Saturday slots to later time slots for special events. As both “King of the Hill” and Marvel’s mutants are making their comeback on screen in animated revivals, it would be great if Spider-Man could follow suit.
