Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Adds Mod Support, But Only for PC Gamers!

The long-anticipated sequel to Warhorse Studios’ open-world RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has seen a thriving debut since its launch a week ago. The medieval Bohemian journey swiftly amassed one million sales within 24 hours of release, skyrocketing on Steam charts (currently, approximately 200,000 players are engaged in the game on this platform). Building upon this initial surge of success, the developers have revealed that a much-demanded feature will be introduced to the game.

The feature in question is called “official mod support,” which Warhorse Studios has announced will be available through Steamworks – a suite of tools developed by Valve Corporation for developers’ use. This support likely encompasses modding tools, and it’s expected that they may also integrate Steam Workshop support; this feature would enable players to browse, download, and install mods directly from the Steam client with just one click, thereby eliminating the need for manual installation.

On Wednesday morning, I witnessed an amusing declaration from the developers, perfectly fitting for the playful essence of numerous mods. They unveiled an outlandish, magenta and blue zebra-infused horse, with our beloved, quirky protagonist Henry from King’s Court 2 astride it, brandishing a fish as if it were a sword. Here’s the humorous snapshot for your viewing pleasure:

The studio has announced that Bohemia will soon become even more thrilling! They’re planning to officially introduce modding for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 through Steamworks, so keep an eye out for updates.

It’s exciting to learn that Warhorse is now planning to offer official mod support for KCD2 shortly after its release, much like they did with the 2018 game. Unlike the original release, where the developers announced and released the mod support a year later in 2019, some players who were interested in creating complex mods with additional quests may have already moved on. However, many simpler mods continued to be created and shared widely on sites like Nexus Mods.

Regarding Nexus Mods, it serves as a hub for the top-tier mods for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 that have been released thus far. Among these popular mods are those like Unlimited Saving II and Increased Carry Weight which alleviate some of KCD2’s gameplay restrictions or make the game less challenging, though there are also mods that increase the difficulty in an engaging manner. For example, Scout Hardcore Mode offers features to conceal player and quest objectives on the map, eliminate the compass from the HUD, disable fast travel, and much more. Additionally, an early KCD2 Mod Manager is available to streamline the installation process of mods, ensuring a hassle-free experience if you’d rather avoid manual installation.

It appears that it’s unlikely that mod support will be added to the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 versions of the game, which might not come as a surprise due to the closed nature of console platforms. While some developers have integrated mod browsers into their console games, and STALKER 2 developer GSC Game World is using mod.io for console support in the STALKER trilogy ports, it’s generally rare to find mods in Xbox or PlayStation releases.

The sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance has been released on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC platforms like Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG, as well as PS5. This game is widely recognized as one of the top Xbox titles and PC games of the year for RPG enthusiasts. If you’re into role-playing games, it’s worth considering purchasing it (currently on sale for only $52.49 at CDKeys, making it an excellent bargain).
