Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 “Robbed Again” At The Steam Awards

Many fans were hoping the Steam Awards would bring success for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 after it didn’t win any prizes at The Game Awards. Because the Steam Awards are decided by player votes, some believed a win was likely… or so they thought.

Despite being nominated for both Game of the Year and an award recognizing strong storytelling, Warhorse Studios didn’t win either prize. One user, u/Velkoadmiral, jokingly expressed their disappointment online, saying they felt the results were unfair and questioning what was going on.

They also robbed silver my Lord.

To be fair, the original post was clearly meant as a joke, and the discussion on Reddit has been surprisingly polite compared to other online platforms. Some fans, like u/KillerBullet, acknowledge that “Kingdom Come: Deliverance isn’t an award-winning game,” explaining it’s “too challenging for most players.” Others, such as u/The_Last_Hildryn_Main, compare it to the early games from FromSoftware – very popular with a dedicated fanbase, but potentially alienating for casual gamers.

As u/HighKingOfGondor pointed out, simply being nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards was a huge achievement. The game surpassed many other excellent titles, gained a large and dedicated fanbase, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 performed very strongly overall!

“The Majority Of Gamers Are Casuals With A Short Attention Span”: The Ugly Side Of The KCD2 Fan Base

Despite the positive nomination, a quick look at the Steam forums reveals a much more critical and unhappy side of the community.

Horschtele expressed strong disapproval of this year’s award winners, feeling they unfairly took prizes that should have gone to KCD.

Sans Blague confidently stated that the awards were completely unfair. He believes they prioritize money and manufactured popularity over genuine talent and quality work.

In a recent article, Chad Miyazaki stated that while ‘Dispatch’ is a compelling game with a strong narrative, its creators don’t deserve attention or praise.

Honestly, I’m completely baffled. This game is incredible in so many ways, but Hollow Knight ended up winning Game of the Year? I just can’t wrap my head around it, no joke.

AuzzieDonkey expressed disappointment that Kingdom Come: Deliverance II didn’t win RPG of the Year at The Game Awards, and was further frustrated it wasn’t recognized for its storytelling in the Steam Awards. They believe this reflects a lack of appreciation for quality narratives among general gamers, and is a key reason why the gaming landscape has changed over the past decade.

“We Should Be Sharing Our Love For KCD2 With Enthusiasm, Not Hate”

The negativity wasn’t limited to just one place; it spread to the subreddit and X (formerly Twitter). However, the community largely resisted it, particularly when people tried to downplay the successes of other games like Dispatch, Silksong, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. For example, a post by user u/dogstancey strongly urged people to ignore the angry reactions to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 not winning.

User u/dogstancey expressed concern that fan reactions are becoming overly negative, stating that the game’s creator, Henry, wouldn’t approve. They acknowledged that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a phenomenal game – their Game of the Year so far, even before finishing the game – and understand the disappointment that it hasn’t received nominations or awards, especially considering it’s a community-voted title. They emphasized that both Kingdom Come games are a tribute to fans of medieval history and novels like those by Bernard Cornwell.

I’m worried that constantly focusing on the lack of awards will discourage people from playing the game. It’s frustrating to see fans arguing online instead of being open to different opinions. Just because Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 didn’t win big awards doesn’t make it any less of a fantastic game. We should be sharing our passion for it with positivity and welcoming others, not with negativity and harshness.
