Daniel Vávra, who co-founded Warhorse Studios and led the creation of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, is leaving game development. He now plans to explore adapting the Kingdom Come: Deliverance story into a film or television series.
Dan has a new role. That’s the creation of the Kingdom Come movie.
Martin Frývaldský
Frývaldský shared this information in an interview with CzechCrunch, as reported by Video Games Chronicle. Players eager for a swift release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3 or another new game from Warhorse Studios might find this disappointing.
| Title | Release Date | Platform(s) |

Daniel Vávra Chases Cinematic Vision for the Kingdom Come: Deliverance Franchise

As a huge fan of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, I’ve always known Daniel Vávra was the heart and soul of Warhorse Studios – he’s been driving the creative vision since the beginning back in 2011! It’s amazing to hear that he doesn’t just want to keep the story in games. After exploring comics, concerts, and even tourism tie-ins, the CEO, Frývaldský, has said that they’re now setting their sights on a major film adaptation, which is incredible news!
For a while now, we’ve been expanding the Kingdom Come brand beyond video games, focusing on areas like comics, concerts, and tourism. We’re particularly excited about the possibility of a film adaptation, and Dan and I are actively working to make it happen. We even have a completed draft of the script.
The CEO explained that Vávra had been wanting to pursue new opportunities for quite some time. Frývaldský added that even though Vávra isn’t in the office every day, he’s still a key member of the Warhorse Studios team with a revised role.
Can Kingdom Come: Deliverance Join the Last of Us’ Legacy?

Frývaldský’s statements reveal that he and Vávra are aiming for a live-action adaptation not only from traditional Hollywood studios, but also from major streaming services. Their close work on the script suggests the project might follow a similar path to the successful series The Last of Us.
He mentioned that talks about the movie are already happening, and they’re not just looking to sell the rights – they want to be involved in making it too. This approach is similar to how Naughty Dog partnered with HBO to produce The Last of Us.
Video game adaptations are currently enjoying a surge in popularity. We’re seeing successful shows like The Last of Us, Fallout, and The Witcher, as well as hit movies based on Minecraft and Super Mario.
The realistic world and focus on characters in Kingdom Come: Deliverance have strong potential to appeal to a wider audience beyond video games. However, prioritizing this broader appeal could impact future game development, potentially including Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3.
