The recent reveal of Kingdom Hearts 4 during a Nintendo Direct was already a surprise, but fans now believe the game might be released in 2027. GamesRadar noticed that listings on EB Games and JB Hi-Fi both suggest a release next year, leading to this speculation.
When we published this article, both the app store listings had been changed to remove any information about when the game would be released. It’s important to note that these listings are actually for Kingdom Hearts Collection (1-3), which was announced earlier this week, not Kingdom Hearts 4.
Square Enix hasn’t shared many specifics about Kingdom Hearts 4 yet. They’ve only confirmed through a trailer that the game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
It would be unusual for a new Kingdom Hearts game to be released only a year after its first trailer, considering the series often gets announced very early or experiences significant delays – Kingdom Hearts 3 in 2019 is a good example. If Kingdom Hearts 4 really does come out in 2027, as one Reddit user suggests, it’s going to be an amazing year for gaming, alongside highly anticipated titles like Fable, Persona 6, and Stranger Than Heaven, and many more.
This week, the first trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 was released. While it didn’t share many specifics, it showed Sora battling giant creatures in a realistic version of Tokyo’s Shinjuku area. We also saw familiar faces like Donald and Goofy, and members of Organization XIII who appear to have their own plans.
Like previous games in the series, Kingdom Hearts 4 will feature quick and dynamic battles. Sora will have a wide range of attacks to defeat enemies, and will probably be able to unlock powerful upgrades. This will likely work similarly to Kingdom Hearts 2 and 3, where players could equip different Keyblades to learn new skills.
The game’s title was revealed, and it was announced that Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD Remix, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts 3 + ReMind are all coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Players can purchase each collection separately, or buy a bundle containing all three, making it simpler for new fans to dive into the complex story.
Fans eager for the release of Kingdom Hearts 4 might be wondering about its progress. Creative director Tetsuya Nomura shared in September 2025 that development is going smoothly and on track, alongside Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. While Kingdom Hearts 4 was originally announced in 2022, Square Enix hasn’t shared many updates since then, which has understandably caused some concern among players.
