Kingmakers – 13 Details You Need to Know

We were surprised at first to hear about a video game where players use modern weapons against medieval soldiers. However, the concept has become appealing, and we’re now looking forward to playing Kingmakers, a new action-strategy game from Redemption Road Games.

If you find the game’s unique concept and exciting gameplay as interesting as we do, you’ll probably want to learn more before buying it. So, we’ve created a list of things to help you decide if it’s right for you.

Let’s dive in!

1. From The Future, With Love

The game’s story is completely wild! You play as an elite operative sent back to 1401 Wales, right in the middle of a rebellion. It was a chaotic time with constant fighting between England, Wales, and Scotland, all sparked by a Welsh prince claiming the throne.

You’ll be stepping in to stop a world-ending disaster from happening in your original time. It’s a classic story of someone transported to another world, with the added twist of time travel making you a powerful warrior or an unmatched leader.

2. Choose a Side

In the main story, you’ll choose to fight for England, Scotland, or Wales, and your decisions will lead to different endings. Will you try to stop the rebellion, join it, or play both sides for your own benefit? The game is full of surprises and unexpected events as you play through the campaign.

If you enjoy playing games multiple times, that’s great! This game’s story offers plenty of reasons to revisit it.

3. Your Perspective, Your Playstyle

I love being right in the middle of the fight, using awesome modern weapons against knights, soldiers, and even cavalry! And yeah, you can definitely do that in this game.

Alternatively, would you rather command from a distance, demonstrating your strategic skills? Feel free to do so.

The game lets you easily switch between controlling your character directly and managing your army like a strategy game – and you can do it at any moment. This creates a dynamic experience where you’re closely involved in your troops’ actions and can personally step in to change things if your strategy isn’t working. It’s a fresh take on historical warfare.

4. Troops That Are More Than Cannon Fodder

Redemption Road is excited about using AI to make battles more realistic. The AI will control soldiers, reacting to what happens in combat – things like changing their tactics, finding new routes, and even deciding whether to keep fighting. For example, if you defeat a large group of enemy soldiers, they might surrender. Alternatively, the AI could have soldiers try to attack your flanks if they see an opening.

As a player, I’ll be able to use some clever tactics with my units and commanders, and it sounds like controlling the battlefield will be a really satisfying, but tough, experience. I’m looking forward to the challenge!

Situations can change rapidly, whether you’re working in the field or at headquarters, and the studio could easily create a tense and exciting atmosphere.

5. Battle Tactics

Although it might seem like powerful weapons will make you unstoppable in Redemption Road, the game is designed to be challenging. Enemies don’t just stand and fight – they’ll overwhelm you with large numbers, effectively neutralizing your firepower and forcing you to adapt.

No matter what weapons or tools you have, expect opposition. Always be prepared for the enemy to try clever tactics to shift the battle in their favor, especially while you’re leading your forces.

6. You And Whose Army?

Honestly, if juggling a huge army feels like too much, you can team up with friends! The game lets up to four players play together, and it’s a little scary to think about how powerful a really coordinated squad could be with all the modern weapons. Imagine facing them with just swords and shields – it wouldn’t be pretty for the other team, that’s for sure!

We’re excited to see the unique and imaginative ways you’ll set up your units once you start playing the game. We know you all have great ideas!

7. The Right Tools For The Art of War

Okay, so the basic idea of this game is awesome – I get to use all sorts of crazy weapons, like assault rifles, shotguns, and even grenade launchers, against enemies who basically have sticks and stones! Honestly, I’m really intrigued to see how these battles actually *work*. How are these older armies supposed to fight back against all this future tech? It sounds totally wild and a little silly, but the trailers look like they’ve actually pulled it off – and the execution looks *really* good, if you catch my drift.

8. Wheels Up!

Beyond the impressive arsenal of weapons, you can also command a fleet of armored vehicles – from SUVs and motorcycles to attack helicopters. You can even request air support and make a grand entrance in a convertible while heading into combat!

Okay, seriously though, adding car combat could *really* make this game amazing. Imagine going full James Bond, storming an enemy base in a super-cool, tricked-out sports car. Or, if you’re more about getting the job done, you could roll in with a tank and just blast your way through! It could tie everything together perfectly.

9. Drawing The Line

It’s funny to learn about this, even though it didn’t make it into the game. The developers considered adding a huge, powerful mech to the battlefield, but decided against it because it would have been difficult to keep the game balanced. We probably agree – a giant metal machine fighting soldiers with swords just seems a bit unrealistic, even for a game like Kingmakers.

We wanted to recreate a slightly altered version of our favorite battle from *Star Wars*, but things didn’t quite work out that way.

10. A Path to Fame and Fortune

Given how original the game Kingmakers is, it’s not surprising that movie and TV studios were interested in it. Story Kitchen is now partnering with Redemption Road and TinyBuild to create a live-action movie based on the game.

We’re really hoping the movie accurately captures the wild experience we expect when it’s released.

11. Kingmakers Is Just Getting Started

We really mean it: you can start playing on October 8th, 2025! The developers are already planning lots of exciting additions for the full game, like flamethrowers and drones. These will give you plenty of options to defeat your enemies and save the future – in some very imaginative ways.

12. Crossplay and Consoles

The developers are hoping to release the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and are currently working towards making it happen. Bringing the game to more platforms would allow more players to enjoy it and could help build a strong community around its unique and exciting concept.

13. Modest System Requirements

One of the great things about Kingmaker is that it looks fantastic without needing a super powerful computer. According to the Epic Games Store, you’ll need Windows 10, an Intel i5 processor (10th generation or newer), 8GB of RAM, and an RTX 2060 graphics card to run it. DirectX 11 is also required, and you’ll need a good amount of storage – around 80GB.

The game now recommends at least an Intel i7 processor from the 10th generation and an RTX 3070 graphics card. These requirements could change before the game officially launches, but they suggest that even players with slightly older computers should still be able to play.

And that’s a wrap on everything you need to know about Kingmakers.
