Though Nintendo has kept mum about Kirby Air Riders since its initial reveal in April, director Masahiro Sakurai recently shared via a social media post (translation credit: Nintendo Life) that the game is still set for release in 2025. Additionally, Sakurai hinted at upcoming disclosures regarding the title.
Sakurai’s initial message expressed gratitude towards the fans for their support of his company, Sora Co., Ltd., as it marks its 20th anniversary. He also regretted that he hadn’t demonstrated any gameplay for Kirby Air Rider yet.
Sakurai noted that while it might not seem significant to many, today marks the 20th anniversary of Sora Co., Ltd., a milestone worth acknowledging given its lengthy history. He expressed gratitude for everyone’s ongoing support. Additionally, although the game Kirby Air Rider hasn’t yet revealed any gameplay footage, he hinted at upcoming information sharing. Patience is advised!
The short trailer for Kirby Air Riders was released, but it didn’t provide much insight into the gameplay. Instead, it showcased a pre-rendered scene where Kirby is seen riding a shooting star and entering a beautiful field, followed by other riders on unique vehicles accompanying him.
The upcoming title is set to be a sequel to the 2003 racing game “Kirby Air Ride,” initially released on the GameCube. In “Kirby Air Ride,” players could compete in races with up to four participants, each assuming the role of one of the numerous characters from the Kirby series. It’s important to mention that “Kirby Air Ride” was the last Kirby game directed by Sakurai before he moved on to work on other projects such as “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.” However, he eventually returned to oversee “Kirby Air Riders.
Following the reveal of the game, it was also announced that Sakurai is collaborating with Bandai Namco Studios on the creation of Kirby Air Riders. In the past, he has worked with this studio on exclusive Nintendo games such as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, along with its successor, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Bandai Namco has collaborated on numerous Nintendo-owned game series in the past, such as ARMS, Mario Kart 7, and Mario Sports Superstars.
Regarding Kirby, Nintendo is planning to launch an upgrade called the “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World” for the game “Kirby and the Forgotten Land.” This enhancement pack is due out on August 28 and will cost $19.99 for those who already own the original version of “Kirby and the Forgotten Land.” Newcomers can purchase the full package, titled “Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World,” at a price of $79.99.
In early March, a trailer was released for the enhanced version of “Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World.” This trailer showcased several updates in store for the game, such as beefed-up boss battles and fresh Mouthful Modes that bestow Kirby with unique skills like increased jumping height or the capability to attach to walls and spin around.
Even though it doesn’t concern most people, I’d like to take a moment to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Solara Limited. Thank you for your continued support! We can’t wait to share more information about our new game, ‘Carby’s Air Raider’, soon. Stay tuned!
