Kit Harington “angered” by Game of Thrones fans who petitioned for season 8 remake

Kit Harington has admitted he was truly upset by a viral petition that emerged after the divisive final season of Game of Thrones aired.

The actor became famous worldwide for playing Jon Snow in the popular fantasy series that was a flagship show for HBO, appearing in all eight seasons.

The series ended with a disappointing and controversial finale that significantly damaged its previously strong reputation. Fans were so unhappy that they even started a petition asking for the final season to be completely re-written by different writers, a clear criticism of showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss.

The campaign gained an incredible 1.8 million signatures, clearly showing how unhappy people were with the ending the creators delivered.

Kit Harington told The New York Times that the strange request really angered him, as he discussed the start of the fourth season of his show, Industry.

Honestly, it really got under my skin. It felt incredibly presumptuous, and I couldn’t help but be annoyed. It just struck me as the kind of thoughtless behavior that really thrives on social media these days.

Although Kit Harington previously supported David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, he has recently stepped away from the Game of Thrones universe, even after spending years working on a potential spin-off series centered around his character, Jon Snow.

Kit Harington has made it clear he has no interest in revisiting his role in an audiobook, similar to the recent Harry Potter recordings. He stated, “Absolutely not. I’ve spent a decade with that character, and I’m happy to move on.”

These remarks were made nearly two years after Kit Harington stated that a Jon Snow spin-off series was no longer happening at HBO. He explained to ScreenRant that the team simply couldn’t develop a storyline they were all enthusiastic about.

It’s not surprising that HBO isn’t planning to redo Game of Thrones season 8. Producing that season cost almost $100 million, so a remake would be a very expensive undertaking.

Once the initial excitement calmed down, I heard from HBO’s Casey Bloys (through Variety) that while the petition showed how much everyone loved the show, they never really thought about acting on it.
