SNK has brought the classic 1996 fighting game, *Kizuna Encounter: Super Tag Battle*, to PC via Steam for $19.99 (or 2,980 yen). This release is part of SNK’s “NEO GEO Premium Selection,” which updates classic NEO GEO games for modern players. The new version features improved online play with rollback netcode and supports lobbies for up to nine players, plus includes Tournament and Spectator modes and a better practice mode.
Here is an overview of the game, via SNK:
About
Okay, so this is a fighting game originally from the arcades back in ’96, made by SNK. I remember playing the older version, and now it’s back! It’s a 2D fighter set after the world’s gone a bit crazy. The best part? All the characters from the original *SAVAGE REIGN* are here, but now it’s all about team battles – two versus two! They’ve seriously upgraded the online play with something called rollback netcode, which makes matches super smooth. Plus, you can hang out in lobbies with up to nine people, watch others fight, and even set up your own tournaments. You can team up with a friend and jump into chaotic four-player battles, which is a ton of fun.
Characters
10 renegades, two ruthless bosses—one apocalyptic fight for the future!
Eight characters return from the previous game, *Savage Reign*, and are joined by two new fighters: Rosa, a resistance leader, and Kim, who battles with a cane. For the first time, you can also fight as the boss characters King Leo and Jyazu, but only in one-on-one battles.
Online Battles
Thrilling online matches! multiplayer mayhem with four players at once!
Experience smooth, lag-free battles in a dark, futuristic world thanks to advanced online technology. Compete in various tournament styles and join lobbies with up to nine players. You can also team up with friends for intense four-player fights – a rare feature when the game first came out in arcades. Choose your strongest fighters and battle players from around the globe!
New Features
Modern-day overhaul for an arcade classic!
- Practice Mode – Hit the new and improved Practice Mode, where you can tailor lab sessions to your needs—complete with speed selectors, a hitbox viewer, and more. Master brutal combos as you prepare for each formidable matchup!
- Jukebox – An integrated jukebox (featuring the game’s soundtrack) and a diverse collection of achievement challenges round out the suite of single-player content. The result—an expanded Kizuna Encounter experience for contemporary gamers!
