You can always expect a new Knives Out movie to deliver a clever and funny murder mystery, full of surprising twists. Daniel Craig is fantastic as the drawling detective Benoit Blanc, and the films always feature a brilliant ensemble cast of Hollywood’s top actors.
As a huge movie fan, I have to say Rian Johnson really knows how to assemble a cast! For this third film, he’s brought in some seriously talented actors to play the suspects, and it’s fantastic to see so many of them get their moment to really shine. He definitely didn’t hold back!
Josh O’Connor takes the lead role, continuing a tradition started by Ana de Armas and Janelle Monae as the person who becomes Detective Blanc’s main ally in solving the mystery. The film also features a stellar cast, including Glenn Close, a veteran actress with eight Oscar nominations, Andrew Scott known for his roles in ‘Sherlock’ and ‘Fleabag,’ and up-and-coming actress Cailee Spaeny.
We spoke with some of the actors before the show came out, and they shared their excitement about being involved. Kerry Washington even called the lead actor’s performance “one of the most iconic of our time.”

Daniel Craig plays Benoit Blanc
Benoit Blanc is the unique and renowned detective with a Southern drawl who was the central figure in the first two movies of this series.
Many viewers recall the second movie revealing James Bond (played by Daniel Craig) was married to a character portrayed by Hugh Grant. However, in a 2023 interview with W magazine, Craig expressed a desire for his character’s personal life to stay largely unknown in upcoming films.
He mentioned that despite learning a little about Benoit’s personal life, he hopes Benoit still feels enigmatic. He enjoys the sense of intrigue surrounding Benoit – how he seems to travel from one exciting location to another, then unexpectedly reappear. It’s like he lives a truly fascinating life.
Many people recognize Daniel Craig as James Bond, the iconic spy he’s played in five movies. Beyond Bond, he’s also starred in films like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Golden Compass, Layer Cake, Enduring Love, and Queer.
Josh O’Connor plays Rev Jud Duplenticy
Reverend Jud Duplenticy is a young priest with a past – he used to be a professional boxer. After getting into trouble for punching a deacon, he’s reassigned to a small parish, only to find himself suspected of murder.
You might recognize Josh O’Connor from his earlier role in The Durrells. He became widely known for playing a young Prince Charles in The Crown, and has since appeared in films like Emma. with Anya Taylor-Joy, the Sky Original film Aisha, and the romantic drama God’s Own Country.
Recently, O’Connor appeared in the films Challengers by Luca Guadagnino, La Chimera by Alice Rohrwacher, and The Mastermind by Kelly Reichardt. He also has leading roles in new movies directed by acclaimed filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Joel Coen.
Glenn Close plays Martha Delacroix
Martha Delacroix is a deeply religious woman who has been a member of her church her entire life. She is very dedicated and supportive of Monsignor Wicks.
If you recognize Glenn Close, it’s likely from one of her many memorable roles! She started in films in 1982 with The World According to Gary, and gained recognition in The Big Chill (1983) and The Natural (1984). She’s also well-known for starring in classics like Fatal Attraction (1987), Dangerous Liaisons (1988), and 101 Dalmatians (1996), as well as more recent films like Albert Hobbs (2011), The Wife (2017), and Hillbilly Elegy (2020). Interestingly, she holds the record for the most Oscar nominations without a win, with eight nominations to date.
Josh Brolin plays Msgr Jefferson Wicks
Jefferson Wicks is a compelling and controlling priest who has attracted a small, loyal following. However, he is soon found murdered.
You probably recognize Josh Brolin from a lot of popular movies! He’s been a working actor for years, with memorable roles in classics like The Goonies and True Grit, critically acclaimed films like No Country for Old Men and Milk, and more recent hits like Sicario, Everest, and Vice. Many know him as the villain Thanos from the Marvel movies Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. He’s also starred in the Dune films as Gurney Halleck, and has upcoming projects like Weapons and a remake of The Running Man scheduled for 2025.
Mila Kunis plays Geraldine Scott
Geraldine Scott is the police chief investigating a murder in town. She’s unable to solve the case on her own and requests the help of renowned detective Benoit Blanc.
You probably recognize Mila Kunis from her breakout role as Jackie Burkhart on That ’70s Show. Since then, she’s been in a lot of popular movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Black Swan, Friends with Benefits, Ted, Oz the Great and Powerful, and Bad Moms. She’s also been the voice of Meg Griffin on Family Guy for over two decades! More recently, she starred in the Netflix film Luckiest Girl Alive.
Jeremy Renner plays Dr Nat Sharp
Who is Nat Sharp? The recently divorced town doctor who is one of Wicks’s congregants.
You probably recognize Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he’s been in many other popular movies! Some of his other well-known films include 28 Years Later, The Hurt Locker, The Town, The Bourne Legacy, several Mission: Impossible movies, American Hustle, and Arrival. He also stars in the Paramount+ series Mayor of Kingstown.
Kerry Washington plays Vera Draven, Esq
Who is Vera Draven? A tightly-wound lawyer who is another of Wicks’s congregants.
Okay, so you’re wondering where you recognize Kerry Washington? I totally get it – she’s fantastic! I think most people first noticed her in the TV show Scandal, which was huge. But she’s been in a lot of great stuff! She was in Ray, and even Mr. & Mrs. Smith! Plus, she’s done some really powerful roles in films like The Last King of Scotland and Django Unchained. And if you’ve been watching recently, you might have seen her in The Six Triple Eight, which is also really good. She’s just consistently great in everything she does!
Andrew Scott plays Lee Ross
Lee Ross is a successful author who used to live a glamorous life in Hollywood. Now, he’s a member of Wicks’s community.
You probably recognize Andrew Scott from his popular roles! He’s famous for playing Moriarty in the BBC’s Sherlock, and many know him as the ‘Hot Priest’ from Fleabag. More recently, he starred as the lead in the Netflix series Ripley.
The actor has also been in films like Pride, the war movie 1917, All of Us Strangers, and the new release, Blue Moon. This casting is a welcome return to the James Bond universe for Scott, as he previously acted with Craig in Spectre.
Cailee Spaeny plays Simone Vivane
Who is Simone Vivane? A disabled former concert cellist who is also one of Wicks’s congregants.
Many people are wondering where they’ve seen Cailee Spaeny before. She’s appeared in projects like the movie The Basis of Sex (about Ruth Bader Ginsburg), and the TV shows Devs and Mare of Easttown. More recently, she’s been in bigger films such as Civil War and Alien: Romulus. She received a lot of praise for her role as Priscilla Presley in Sofia Coppola’s 2023 film, Priscilla.
She will next appear in the second season of Netflix series Beef.
Daryl McCormack plays Cy Draven
Cy Draven is Vera’s adopted son and a hopeful politician. He also spends time exploring online conspiracy theories.
You might recognize Daryl McCormack from his roles in shows like Peaky Blinders and Bad Sisters, as well as the BAFTA-nominated film Good Luck to You, Leo Grande. He’s also appeared in Pixie, The Lesson, The Woman in the Wall, and Twisters. He’s set to be in the new Netflix version of Pride and Prejudice too.
Thomas Haden Church plays Samson Holt
Who is Samson Holt? The church’s groundskeeper, who is close with Martha.
You might recognize Thomas Haden Church from his early TV roles on shows like Wings and Ned and Stacey in the 1990s. He’s also been in several popular movies, including George of the Jungle, Sideways, Spider-Man 3, and Easy A. More recently, he’s appeared in the TV series Twisted Metal and Tires.
