Kojima Productions’ OD is Still in Development, Microsoft Confirms

Approximately a month past, Microsoft’s widespread layoffs, which impacted Undead Labs, Turn 10 Studios, and other studios, continue to resonate. The development of Avalanche’s Contraband game has halted four years after its initial announcement, raising doubts about future projects in the Xbox publishing sector due to reported departures on that side.

Despite recent layoffs, it has been confirmed by a Microsoft spokesperson speaking to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier that Kojima Productions’ OD is still in development. This follows a report by Windows Central’s Jez Corden stating the project remains secure following the job cuts.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got to say, plans might shift now and then, but our studio is still diligently working on that chilling psychological horror game. Our mastermind, Hideo Kojima, is currently pouring his creativity into crafting something known as ‘Physint’, which is still in its early stages. But let me tell you, the upcoming project, ‘OD’, is going to be something truly unique and potentially divisive. It’s going to break the mold, so get ready for a rollercoaster ride!

2022 saw the announcement of stars Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier joining OD, with Sophia known for her roles in ‘It’ and ‘It: Chapter Two’, Hunter from ‘Euphoria’, and Udo from ‘Melancholia’ and ‘Halloween’. Jordan Peele is also involved as a writer alongside Kojima. No release date has been set yet, so keep an eye out for further updates.

The partnership between Xbox and Hideo Kojima, known as OD, continues to be developed according to what a Microsoft representative shared with me.
