It’s a golden day for fans of KPop Demon Hunters.
Oh my gosh, you guys, it’s HAPPENING! Netflix finally confirmed it today – March 12th, mark the date! – that they’re making a sequel to HUNTR/X! I seriously can’t even breathe! And the BEST part? Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans are coming back to write and direct! They get this world, you know? It’s like, they’re the only ones who could possibly do it justice. I’m already counting down the days!
Maggie, the Korean filmmaker, expressed how proud she is that viewers are eager to see more of the story and characters from her series. In a recent interview with Netflix’s Tudum, she shared her excitement about expanding the world they’ve created, hinting that this is just the start of something bigger.
Chris shared that the characters feel like family and their world has become a familiar place for the team. They’re thrilled to continue the story, explore new challenges for the characters, and keep innovating the way music, animation, and storytelling work together.
Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for the sequel yet, but they did mention the first movie has been viewed over 500 million times since it came out in June 2025.
The film was a hit with critics, winning both the Critics Choice Award and a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (“Golden”). It’s also up for those same awards at the Oscars on March 15th.
Before the official announcement of the sequel, the singers behind the characters in HUNTR/X – EJAE (Rumi), Audrey Nuna (Mira), and Rei Ami (Zoey) – hinted at the possibility. In September 2025, EJAE told TopMob News at the MTV Video Music Awards to “Stay tuned,” suggesting more news was coming.

Although making another animated film seemed like a great idea, Maggie and Chris were hesitant about turning the cartoon into a live-action movie.
Maggie told the BBC in October that the show’s humor and overall style lend themselves perfectly to animation. She believes bringing these characters to life with live actors wouldn’t feel right – it would be too realistic and wouldn’t capture the spirit of the show.
Chris agreed, adding, “The joy of animation is how far you can push and elevate what’s possible.”

Above all, the team was excited to revisit these characters and explore more stories within their world, as Maggie explained, “We feel there’s a lot more to tell with them.”
She added that whatever happens next will be a story worth continuing, and something audiences will enjoy watching.
For a deep dive into the KPop Demon Hunters’ voice cast, keep reading.

I’m such a fan of Arden Cho, and I’m so excited about her role as Rumi! She plays the lead singer of this amazing KPop group, HUNTR/X, but Rumi isn’t just a performer – she’s a total badass who has to battle real demons, both the supernatural kind and her own personal struggles. It’s a really compelling character!
I’ve been a fan of Arden Cho for years! She’s incredibly talented – a true triple threat as an actress, singer, and model, and she’s been consistently working since 2008. I first discovered her in shows like Teen Wolf and Chicago Med, and I was so excited to see her in Partner Track. Most recently, I really enjoyed her role in the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix – she’s just fantastic in everything she does.
Besides her other talents, she’s a skilled poker player – she even competed in the 2018 World Series of Poker – and is a trained martial artist with a black belt in taekwondo.

Mira, the demon hunter with a passion for ramyeon, is brought to life by voice actress May Hong. Hong is also a model who grew up in Queens, New York, and has worked with major designers like Marc Jacobs, Gucci, and Adidas.
Hong described her character as incredibly strong but also deeply sensitive and easily hurt. She added that she personally identifies with the character because she often appears strong to others, but is actually very caring and vulnerable with those she loves.

Ji-young Yoo is quickly becoming a well-known actress, and she plays the cheerful character Zoey in the series HUNTR/X. Before landing a role in the Prime Video show Expats with Nicole Kidman, she was a student at the University of Southern California. She’s also recently appeared in Freaky Tales and Until Dawn.
Yoo described Zoey as a very energetic character, which made her endearing but also demanding to voice. He told Entertainment Weekly that he focused on building up his own energy levels before recording sessions so he could deliver the necessary enthusiasm for the role.

Many of the movie’s key characters have both voice actors and singers bringing them to life. With four of HUNTR/X’s songs reaching the Billboard Hot 100, the trio clearly delivers incredibly strong and memorable vocals.
The character Rumi’s vocals are performed by EJAE, a talented singer, songwriter, and producer. She’s known for her work with popular K-pop groups like Red Velvet, Twice, Aespa, and NMIXX. After hearing demos of songs she wrote for the movie – including the chart-topping hit “Golden” and “Your Idol” – the directors specifically requested EJAE to be the singing voice for Rumi.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always excited to share rising talent! You might recognize the incredible voice behind Mira as singer and rapper Audrey Nuna. Hailing from New Jersey, she’s been making waves since signing with Arista Records in 2019. If you’re not familiar with her work, I highly recommend checking out her popular singles, “Damn Right” and “Comic Sans,” which features the one and only Jack Harlow!
Rei Ami is the vocalist and rapper for the group HUNTR/X, performing as Zoey. Originally from South Korea, she immigrated to Maryland with her family at age six. She’s gained significant recognition, notably with her single “Freak” featuring Sub Urban, which has garnered over 298 million views on YouTube.

Ken Jeong plays Bobby, the dedicated and encouraging manager at HUNTR/X. Before becoming an actor, Jeong was a doctor, and he first gained widespread recognition for his roles in The Hangover and Community. He currently appears as a judge on Fox’s The Masked Singer.

Ahn Hyo-seop voices Jinu, the captivating lead singer of the Saja Boys in the new show KPop Demon Hunters. While this is his first voice acting experience, he’s well-known for his roles in popular K-dramas like Dr. Romantic, Business Proposal, and A Time Called You.

Andrew Choi, a singer and composer, is the voice behind the character Jinu. He gained recognition as a contestant on the show K-pop Star season two, and has since worked as a producer for popular K-pop groups like Monsta X, EXO, and SHINee.

Celine, who used to be a K-pop star and now hunts demons while protecting Rumi, is portrayed by two actors.
Yunjin Kim is the voice actor for the character Celine. You might recognize her as Sun from the TV show Lost, or from her recent roles in XO, Kitty and Mistresses.
Celine’s singing is performed by Lea Salonga, a famous singer from the Philippines. She’s well-known for originating the role of Kim in the Broadway musical Miss Saigon, and for voicing Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin and the main character in Mulan.

Daniel Dae Kim plays Healer Han, a unique doctor who tries to help Rumi after she loses her voice. Kim is a familiar face on television, having appeared in popular shows like Lost, Hawaii Five-0, Angel, The Good Doctor, and Butterfly.

Lee Byung-hun, the South Korean actor famous for roles in shows like Squid Game and films such as The Magnificent Seven, provides the voice for the villainous demon king, Gwi-ma.

Maggie Kang, who wrote and co-directed the movie, makes a funny appearance as a flight attendant. She’s shown watering plants with coffee, and later revealed to be a demon by Rumi and her team.
Born in Seoul, Kang immigrated to Toronto with her family at the age of 5. She’s a storyboard artist who has contributed to films such as Puss in Boots, Kung Fu Panda 3, and Trolls.

Liza Koshy, known for her YouTube videos and acting, appears as a TV host interviewing the band HUNTR/X about their latest song, “Golden”.
Koshy first became popular on the video-sharing platform Vine in 2013, and has since built a large following on other social media sites. In 2019, Time magazine recognized her as one of the 25 most influential people online. Recently, she’s appeared in the film The Naked Gun and lent her voice to both Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and the Disney Channel series Hamster & Gretel.

Joel Kim Booster, an actor and comedian, voices multiple characters in the film, including Romance Saja, the host of both the variety and idol shows. He’s well-known for his stand-up routines and for creating and starring in the popular 2022 movie Fire Island. He’s also appeared in TV series like Shrill, Big Mouth, Loot, and Industry.

SungWon Cho, a voice actor who plays Abby, also known as the ‘Saja Boy’ for his impressive physique, is a familiar voice in video games, television, and movies. He also has a thriving YouTube channel called ProZD.

Though the character Baby Saja doesn’t speak in KPop Demon Hunters, his catchy rap parts in the songs “Soda Pop” and “Your Idol” are performed by rapper and songwriter Danny Chung. Chung also helped write the songs “How It’s Done” and “Soda Pop” for the movie, and he’s previously written music for the popular group Blackpink.
