Get ready to experience KPop Demon Hunters on the big screen again! The animated musical from Netflix was a huge success – critics loved it, it became the most-watched movie ever on Netflix, stayed in the worldwide top 10 for over a year (51 weeks!), and even won two Oscars and a Grammy. Plus, its songs broke records and went double platinum. It’s safe to say it was a massive hit!
Adding to its success, the movie had the broadest release of any Netflix film in theaters, earning $24.7 million. That number is expected to increase as Netflix plans a re-release in theaters to mark the film’s one-year anniversary on June 20th. Starting this week, screenings will take place across the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea, and numerous other countries. Plus, Netflix is offering free screenings in select locations.

There’s A Lot More To Come From KPop Demon Hunters

Netflix going all out to celebrate one whole year of KPop Demon Hunters makes sense, given just how unfathomable a success it’s been for the streamer, but that first year is really only the beginning. The success means the film is a launchpad for what’s becoming a full franchise, something we’ve already seen the beginnings of with things like its various animated McDonald’s shorts, and with several other releases coming up in 2026, from books to graphic novels to toys.
A sequel to KPop Demon Hunters is officially in development with the original creative team returning. While fans will have to wait – the current expected release date is 2029, though it hasn’t been confirmed – it’s expected to be a major event. Before the sequel arrives, plans are underway for a KPop Demon Hunters world tour, which would be a unique experience for a movie, bringing the music to audiences around the globe. Details about the tour are still being worked out, including who will participate.
Even that, though, will probably only be the tip of the iceberg. There will almost certainly be more sequels beyond the second installment, and, presumably, spinoffs as well. Thankfully, they’re obviously taking the time with things, and creators Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans have full creative control. There will absolutely be a smart Strategy in place, and I look forward to seeing How It’s Done.
You can now watch KPop Demon Hunters on Netflix! If you’d prefer to see it on the big screen, check your local movie theaters for showtimes.
