The Netflix movie KPop Demon Hunters was a huge hit, quickly becoming the most-watched original film on the platform. The story centers on a popular K-pop girl group who must battle a demon boy band while also safeguarding the honmoon. Featuring a talented voice cast including Arden Cho, May Hong, Ken Jeong, and Ahn Hyo-seop, the film’s success has sparked rumors of a potential sequel, and one of the stars has now addressed those rumors.
Rei Ami, the actress who voices Zoey in KPop Demon Hunters, recently attended Heidi Klum’s Halloween party and talked to E! News about the possibility of a sequel. She playfully said she’s “waiting for the call” just like fans are, and promised to share any news when she gets it. Unfortunately, this suggests a sequel isn’t currently being made, or that the actors haven’t been told about it yet.
Ami believes making a sequel is a clear win. She described the first film as a massive cultural event, pointing to its record-breaking success and widespread attention. Ami expressed feeling honored and amazed by the impact of the film, saying that music and art truly have the power to change the world – a sentiment she admits might sound cliché. While she’s enthusiastic about a second movie, she also seems to suggest it’s important to take the time to make it well.
KPop Demon Hunters Sequel Should Be an Easy Decision

The movie KPop Demon Hunters became Netflix’s biggest original film hit ever. Released in June 2025, it racked up an impressive 325 million views in just three months. This easily surpassed the previous record holder, Red Notice (starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds), which only reached just over 200 million views. Critics loved it too, giving it a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Due to popular demand, KPop Demon Hunters even played in theaters after its streaming release, earning an additional $19.2 million at the box office.
It’s not surprising people are hoping for a sequel after the film’s huge success. There’s also been talk of a live-action version of KPop Demon Hunters, but that probably won’t happen. The creators, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, have already said they’re not interested, and that’s probably a good thing. The movie’s success comes from its animation style, and a live-action version would likely lose what makes it special.
There’s a lot of potential for a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters! The characters Rumi, Mira, and Zoey – both as a popular K-pop group and as demon hunters trying to save the world – have many more stories to tell. It’s great that the creators aren’t rushing the process, because the sequel needs to be as exciting and well-developed as the first movie. A rushed sequel would likely disappoint fans, so giving the production team time to create something special is the right approach.
