She’s achieved a lot since becoming famous with her role in Twilight, but she only felt truly respected – treated like an intelligent person instead of poorly – when she started directing herself.
Kristen Stewart is known for being outspoken about issues she cares about. In a recent interview with The Times, she discussed the difficult challenges many actresses face while trying to earn respect from their colleagues. She explained:
It’s frustrating to see how actresses are often treated poorly. There’s this idea that acting is easy, but when I directed a film, I noticed a huge difference in how people interacted with me. They actually listened to my ideas and treated me like an intelligent person, which was a really new and positive experience.
Stewart also explained that male directors have reinforced the notion that directing is a uniquely special role. She then continued speaking, saying:
People often think directors are magical, but that’s just not true – it’s a myth, and mostly spread by men. It’s especially tough on actresses, who are often treated like they have no agency, like they’re just puppets. But that couldn’t be further from the truth, and Imogen [Poots] really poured everything she had into this film.
Would Kristen Stewart Return to ‘Twilight’…as a Director?

Summit Entertainment
Similar to her Twilight colleague Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart has worked hard to move beyond her roles in the sparkly vampire and teen romance stories of that series. However, she recently admitted she’d be open to revisiting that world – but only if she could direct. She shared this at the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s Creative Impact Awards, stating:
I really admire the work all the directors – Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Weitz, and everyone else – did with the films. They each brought such a unique, quirky, and genuine energy to it, especially because they were still finding their footing back then, before they became so well-known. It makes me wonder what could happen if we had a big budget and a lot of support to revisit the story. Honestly, I’d love to see a fresh take on it.
It hasn’t been long since the Twilight series concluded, so the news of a potential reboot feels a bit premature, much like the discussions around revisiting Harry Potter. However, similar to what happened with Harry Potter, a Twilight TV show is now in the works. This new adaptation will focus on Stephenie Meyer’s Midnight Sun, which retells the story from Edward Cullen’s perspective instead of Bella Swan’s.

It’s highly unlikely Kristen Stewart will reprise her role in the Twilight Saga anytime soon, and she seems fine with that. She’s currently enjoying the positive reception to her first directed film, The Chronology of Water, and has been consistently praised for her diverse acting choices in films like Spencer, Love Lies Bleeding, and Crimes of the Future. These roles demonstrate the same impressive range she’s shown since her days playing the iconic, brooding teenager.
