Kurt Russell Shares How Granddaughter Rio Is Taking After Goldie Hawn

Kurt Russell knows his granddaughter Rio Hudson has sky high potential. 

The actor from Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood talked about how his 12-year-old son, whose parents are Oliver Hudson and Erinn Bartlett, is a lot like his partner, Goldie Hawn – everyone says he’s her little look-alike.

Kurt told TopMob News at the NYC premiere of The Madison on March 9th that Rio possesses a unique quality. He emphasized that this quality is entirely her own and worth paying attention to.

As for what advice he’s given his granddaughter should she pursue a career in entertainment?

Just like with all our other kids, we’re not giving them any advice or direction,” the 74-year-old said with a smile. “They’ll figure things out for themselves and pursue their own paths. You just never know what they’ll end up doing.”

Being compared to her grandmother means the world to her. As Kurt put it, the actress is simply a wonderful and one-of-a-kind person.

Kurt Russell, known for his role in Sky High, recently shared the sweet nickname he has for his granddaughter, Rio. The nickname is a tribute to Rio’s grandmother. Russell shares son Wyatt Hudson with Goldie Hawn and son Boston Russell with his former wife, Season Hubley.

Kurt recently told TopMob News that Rio is a remarkably talented dancer. He mentioned people have nicknamed her ‘Mini Goldie’ because of her skill and presence.

The preteen’s comfort in front of the camera also comes from her mom, Erinn, who used to be an actress when she first met Oliver.

Rio isn’t the only grandchild interested in a career in entertainment. Her brothers, Wilder Hudson, 18, and Bodhi Hudson, 15, plus cousin Ryder Robinson, 22—Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson’s oldest son—are all starting to land acting jobs.

Kurt explained that the family doesn’t feel pressured to continue acting as a strict tradition. He said that while some family members are drawn to it, others aren’t, and that’s perfectly normal – it’s something many of them experience.

Though Kate, 46, and Oliver, 49—Goldie Hawn’s children with ex-husband Bill Hudson—have become successful in Hollywood, their brother, Boston, has no desire to work in the entertainment industry.

Wyatt playfully described his brother Boston as someone who isn’t interested in the family’s creative pursuits, joking that this disinterest actually makes him uniquely suited for success.

Kurt actually believes his unique career allows him to uniquely support his family, jokingly referring to himself as ‘the family therapist’.
