Kyoto Xanadu details more characters, requests, cursed armor, and conversation events

Falcom has shared fresh details and images for their action RPG, Kyoto Xanadu, revealing characters Wyatt Warren and Marina Yuino. They also showcased the side quests players can undertake, details about cursed armor, and the game’s conversation system.

■ Characters

Wyatt Warren (voiced by Ryuho Nagaoka)

Age: 18

A brilliant third-year student who serves as the receptionist of Hirasaka Academy’s Research Building.

A member dispatched from an American company affiliated with the Zodiac Corporate Alliance, he is neither a member of Suruga’s team nor one of his subordinates.

He generally communicates in a formal, business-like way, but he sometimes asks Rei to help with risky experiments. He’s also very clever, which occasionally leads him to make hasty and unsupported assumptions.

Marina Yuino

Age: 15

A female student who serves as the receptionist of Hirasaka Academy’s chapel.

She greatly admires Luana, often called the “Saint of Siena,” and is part of Luana’s team, the Nameless Fruit.

Despite being forgetful and sometimes making errors, she dedicates herself to her studies each day, determined to become a fully qualified nun.

■ Systems: Facility Requests

Players earn rewards and contribution points from Hirasaka Academy by taking on requests from different parts of the school, completing them inside the labyrinth, and then returning.

Requests from the Research Building

You can get “Otherworldly Materials” by breaking certain objects you find inside the labyrinth.

Requests from the Training Ground

Subjugation requests can be completed by defeating a specific number of monster within the labyrinth.

Requests from the Chapel

Rescue requests from the chapel can be completed by rescuing lost students who are stranded in “Uncertain Domain.”

■ Systems: Kijaku Tenjinguu

While exploring the labyrinth, players may obtain “cursed armor.”

Once you’re back in the normal world, you can remove the curse from the armor at Kijaku Tenjinguu Shrine on Shijo Street in Kyoto, turning it into powerful, one-of-a-kind gear.

The process requires “Dispel Talismans,” which can be purchased at Kijaku Tenjinguu.

■ Systems: Tankasho / Kien Kobanashi

While exploring Hirasaka Academy and Kyoto, special events called “Tankasho” and “Kienkobanashi” may occur at specific locations which will deepen the player’s bond with various characters.

Players can build relationships with characters by completing certain tasks. As they do, they’ll earn points. Once enough points are gathered, unique events will be unlocked. Reaching the maximum relationship level with a character will reward players with rare items as a sign of their friendship.

Tankasho

Tankasho depicts conversations with main characters such as Fuka, Kazuki, Sena, homeroom teacher Tatsumiya, and others.

Kien Kobanashi

Kien Kobanashi depicts the individual stories of various students who attend Hirasaka Academy.

Mitsutaka Kino (voiced by Kohei Yanagi)

Age: 18
Soul Device: Jitte types

A second-year student at Hirasaka Academy from Miyagi Prefecture.

He’s a big fan of heroes from tokusatsu shows, and after gaining special powers, he joined the academy hoping to become a real hero himself.

He’s naturally a bit shy and tends to see the negative side of things, which often makes him worry about letting his teammates down.

Sayuri Shinozuka (voiced by Riko Akechi)

Age: 17
Soul Device: Japanese parasol types

A second-year student at Hirasaka Academy from Gifu Prefecture.

She comes from a really important family, so she usually acts very proper and polite. But honestly, she’s got a bit of a prickly side, and she’s especially tough on Rei. It’s like she really comes down hard on him, which is a bit surprising given how she normally is.

She’s a skilled fighter who uses a unique Japanese parasol as her weapon. She’s the best player on a moderately ranked team at the academy.

Komachi Takigawa (voiced by Yuno Azuma)

Age: 16
Soul Device: Hammer types

A cheerful and friendly first-year student from Fukuoka Prefecture.

She has an enormous appetite and often gets caught up in lively conversations about food-related topics.

Although she hails from a line of Chosen, her family is not a traditional prestigious household, having instead been raised in a more common middle class environment.

Soshi Akazome (voiced by Kosuke Kuwano)

Age: 16
Soul Device: Oni hand types

A one-armed first-year student from Aichi Prefecture.

His unique ability appears as a massive oni hand, replacing his missing left arm and granting him incredible strength to defeat monsters in combat.

He appears to avoid interacting with others and is almost always alone.

Rikiya Nito (voiced by Yoshinori Nakayama)

Age: 18
Soul Device: Kanabo types

A physically adept third-year student from Nara Prefecture.

His bold and energetic personality can sometimes overwhelm those around him, but he is extremely disciplined when it comes to honing his body.

He enrolled at Hirasaka Academy to gain the strength needed to fight monsters, and currently serves as the leader of one of the academy’s top-ranked athletics teams.

Tomoe Furube (voiced by Yuzuki Watase)

Age: 19
Soul Device: Staff types

A refined third-year student from Nagasaki Prefecture who loves to read.

She belongs to a mid-ranked all-girls team at Hirasaka Academy.

She’s very particular about cleanliness and keeps a close watch on Rei, especially because of all the gossip surrounding him since he joined the academy.

The game Kyoto Xanadu will be released in Japan and Asia on July 16th for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Switch, and PC (via Steam). It will also be available in western countries at a later date.
