Lamar Odom is putting his sobriety first.
Almost three months after his arrest in Las Vegas for drunk driving and related traffic offenses, the two-time NBA champion shared his experiences with getting sober.
Lamar Odom, who recently entered a not guilty plea in his Las Vegas legal case, stated on Page Six Radio on April 8th that he is currently sober and doesn’t drink alcohol. He explained that addiction is a brain disease, similar to cancer, and that no one would intentionally want to suffer from such an illness.
Lamar Odom, 46, who was married to Khloe Kardashian from 2009 to 2016, explained that learning about health issues helps him maintain his sobriety, saying, “The more I learn about disease, the easier it is for me to stay sober.”
He also explained that if you’re prone to addiction, the worst thing you can do is use drugs of any kind.
After being arrested in January, Lamar finished a 30-day recovery program in Los Angeles. This came after he previously pleaded no contest to a DUI in 2013 and survived a life-threatening overdose in 2015. The program helped him better understand addiction and focus on staying sober.

In a recent interview with USA Today published on March 26th, he revealed he’d been completely sober for nearly 60 days, meaning he’d stopped using both marijuana and alcohol. He added that giving up marijuana was the most challenging part of getting sober.
Now, Lamar sees his story as one he can use to help others on their journeys.
I’ve always prided myself on being strong, both mentally and physically. But honestly, when it comes to wanting to escape reality, I’m no different than anyone else. That’s why I feel so strongly about sharing my story – if I can inspire just one person to believe they can overcome their own struggles and find hope, then maybe that’s why I was given a second chance.

She’s glad she made the change. She explained, “I’ve found things are just better overall. It really helped me avoid getting stuck in negativity, and I prefer to stay positive.”

I believe we all have key moments that determine who we become and where our lives head. Early in my career, I was heading down a very destructive path. Despite any achievements, I constantly felt inadequate and had very little self-worth. This quickly led to a crisis, and at the time, I didn’t understand why it was happening – it almost felt like something bigger than myself intervened.
In 2012, seeking help, Moore expressed gratitude to two people she hadn’t known well who essentially challenged her to change her ways. She joked that they told her, “You either get better, or…” implying the alternative was dire. They gave her an opportunity to get her life back on track before she ruined it completely.

He described having a harsh internal dialogue, repeatedly asking himself if he wanted to repeat past mistakes and lose out on life again. He pushed himself to prioritize the experience, even if he wasn’t doing it for his own sake, he needed to do it for the people he cared about.
I’ve seen firsthand how crucial it is to rediscover passions during challenging times, and for this particular Oscar winner, that meant pouring himself back into his music. It really became a key part of his journey to sobriety – a healthy outlet that helped him stay on track. It’s a beautiful example of how creative pursuits can be so powerful in overcoming obstacles.
You know, it’s amazing how little things can shift your perspective. I remember a moment when I finally got it – I wasn’t ashamed of being sober anymore. It felt like a real turning point. I started to see my sobriety not as a restriction, but as a strength, something to be proud of. It was like unlocking a superpower, honestly. Being able to make that change, to choose a healthier path, that’s something to celebrate.

He explained on his Armchair Expert podcast that he’s been taking prescription medication consistently for about the past two months. He also mentioned he’s taking more than the prescribed amount.
He went on to say he hated what was happening, and that he was deceiving those around him. He knew he needed to stop, but his tolerance was increasing so rapidly that he was now using eight pills, thirty milligrams each, per day. He realized this was a dangerous amount and feared the severe withdrawal symptoms that would follow. He also admitted to feeling increasingly scared and isolated, burdened by a huge secret.

She said it’s a really freeing experience to share who you truly are and everything you’ve achieved, even though it can also feel a bit scary and open.
Drew Barrymore told the Los Angeles Times she avoids calling herself “sober” because she doesn’t want to be seen as overly strict or judgmental.
She explained that she used to tell herself, ‘I’ll get the hang of this, I’ll find a way to make it work.’ But in 2023, she came to a different conclusion: ‘I’m not going to master this, and that’s okay.’

Bradley Cooper battled a cocaine addiction in the early 2000s. His friend, Will Arnett, helped him by directly addressing his issues and confronting him about his behavior.
Looking back, there was a specific moment that really hit me – it was the first time I truly acknowledged I was struggling with substance use. I was on the Smartless podcast in 2022, and recalling it still feels incredibly vivid. It’s a memory I just can’t shake.
I truly believe Arnett saved my life. He wasn’t afraid to be honest with me, even when it was difficult, and that conversation was exactly what I needed to finally decide to get sober and turn things around. He took a real chance on me, and I’ll always be grateful.

As someone who’s followed a lot of personal journeys, I’ve always been struck by the power of connection. Oh my god, her voice… it just breaks my heart. She was singing about… well, she was apologizing, like to her parents, saying she’s messed up again and isn’t sober. It’s like she’s pleading for forgiveness for everything, even the little things, like spilling drinks. And then she sings about the people who stuck by her, even when things were tough, like they’ve seen this all before. It’s just… it’s so raw and honest, it feels like she’s speaking directly to my soul, admitting she’s messed up again. I just want to reach out and tell her it’s okay, even though she clearly isn’t okay.
A month later, Lovato was hospitalized for a near-fatal overdose.
She shared on Instagram a couple of weeks ago that she’s been open about her struggles with addiction. She explained that it’s an ongoing battle, not something she’s simply overcome, and that she still needs to work on getting better. She’s taking time to heal and focus on staying sober, and she’s grateful for all the support she’s received. She hopes to reach a point where she can confidently say she’s fully recovered, and she’s committed to continuing the fight.

In 2018, she spoke about her past struggles with sex and alcohol addiction. She explained that her addictions tended to shift over time, and when she was younger, she believed sex could solve any problem. She later recognized that she had also developed a serious issue with drinking.
She recalled a moment when she realized she might have a drinking problem. She was home alone and had already finished two bottles of wine when she started to reach for a third. That’s when she stopped and thought, ‘This isn’t right. Drinking a third bottle by myself? This could be a problem.’
I just stopped completely. That’s something I’m able to do. I tend to get really into things, so I always have to be careful and monitor my behavior. It’s not necessarily what you’re doing, but how and why you’re doing it. The motivation behind your actions is what really matters. For example, wanting to have a lot of sex is fine, but you need to understand why you want that.

Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean revealed he first experimented with drugs before shooting the music video for their 2000 hit, “The Call.” He later told Good Morning America that he was extremely out of control during the video shoot. He told People magazine in July 2025 that he’s committed to staying on his current path. He described it as a daily effort, but said he’s finally taken advice from those in recovery, and it’s dramatically improved his life.
While AJ acknowledged he is “still learning, still growing,” he’s now confident in who he is.
I’ve been learning to set personal boundaries, which is something I never did before. It’s really helped me. I also understand now that ‘AJ’ is just a public image, a role I play, but it doesn’t change who I truly am – Alexander James.

He admitted to being high on the substance during a memorable on-stage incident with Torae on BET, and that it negatively affected his attitude, relationships with fans and family. Despite never mentioning lean in his music, he was heavily addicted, consuming it up to seven times a day during his UCP tour with Chris Brown. He described a frightening experience where he collapsed backstage in Cincinnati and woke up in the hospital suffering withdrawal symptoms. Bow Wow emphasized the severity of the pain and the physical toll the addiction took, including persistent stomach problems that continue to this day. He urged young people to avoid drugs, encouraging them to prioritize their health and well-being, and asking parents to talk to their children about the dangers of substance abuse. Looking back, the eighties were a really tough time for me. I honestly lost control with cocaine – it became a daily habit, and the spending was outrageous, even impacting movie budgets I was involved with. I remember countless nights begging for help, pleading with God to let me stop, because I had work in just an hour. Then, as soon as the afternoon rolled around, I’d convince myself it wasn’t that bad and fall right back into it. It was a terrible cycle, and I’m so grateful to have moved past it.
He described a powerful experience, what he called seeing a ‘white light,’ where he felt he was either dying or losing everything important in his life. He then had to explain this to his then-fiancée, Meg Ryan, and afterwards, he decided to get help. This, he said, marked the end of his struggle with cocaine.

Despite knowing you shouldn’t get sober for another person, actor Jason Ritter credits his relationship with Melanie Lynskey as a key factor in his decision to stop drinking.
He realized how wonderful she was and believed she deserved someone truly special. Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show in March 2023, he admitted he didn’t feel up to the task, saying he was ‘a little bit too crazy’ for her.
However, as Ritter noted to TopMob News, he now sees that sobriety is ultimately a personal choice.
Looking back on the beginning of their relationship, he explained that he often framed his actions as being for her because he didn’t feel good about himself at the time. He was more concerned with protecting her feelings than his own, so it was simpler to say he was doing things ‘for her.’ Now, however, he’s motivated by his own well-being.

The country singer has been sober for almost ten years, but achieving that wasn’t easy. His struggle with alcohol and painkillers started shortly after high school and continued even as his career grew. He confessed to People magazine that he always kept a black leather laptop bag nearby, filled with Jagermeister or vodka, and would drink from it every hour and a half to two hours. He also admitted to taking pills every three to four hours.
Despite everything, it didn’t hold him back. “I wasn’t falling apart,” he explained. “Actually, I was incredibly productive – I wrote more songs during that time than I do now, and that’s what really frightened me.”
In late 2011, he ended up in the hospital with pancreatitis and received a stark warning: if he didn’t quit drinking, he wouldn’t live to see his next birthday. He admitted he kept delaying the inevitable, trying to cut back himself. “I’d tell myself, ‘Okay, just two pills today,’ or ‘I’ll only drink this much from the bottle and mark the level,’” he remembered. “It would work for a couple of days, but then someone would have a party and I’d start all over again.”
Gilbert ultimately realized he needed professional help and entered rehab on December 18, 2011. He explained, “I finally admitted I couldn’t overcome this on my own.” He felt frustrated and ashamed, admitting, “Despite being a strong-willed person, I just couldn’t make the necessary changes stick.”
