Paulina Chávez and Jacob Lofland, stars of Landman, have discussed what the future holds for their characters, Ariana and Cooper, after a surprising development in the latest episode. In season 2, episode 2, Ariana decided to break up with Cooper, despite her feelings for him. She fears losing him and isn’t convinced by his ambitions to work in the oil industry.

In an interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley, actors Chávez and Lofland discussed the challenges facing Ariana and Cooper’s relationship in season 2 of Landman. They described their characters’ romance as having its share of problems, but highlighted that their strong feelings for each other will motivate them to try and resolve any issues—even a potential breakup.

ScreenRant asked about the characters’ growing connection in the first season and wanted to know what’s happening with their relationship at the start of season two.

Paulina Chávez says the show explores a realistic relationship, and like all relationships, it has its challenges. There’s a lot to figure out and discuss, but she believes the connection between the characters is strong, and as a viewer, she’s hoping they succeed.

It’s definitely an ongoing process, and we’re still exploring where things are going. There are always new challenges, and the characters are also dealing with personal growth at the same time, so they have a lot to learn and adapt to.

According to Chávez and Lofland, things aren’t over for the couple on season 2 of Landman. Even though Ariana asked Cooper to move out, he spoke with Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) for guidance. It seems Cooper will now try to understand Ariana’s perspective and reach a compromise.

It’s becoming clear that the characters will spend more time with the Norris family throughout the season, as hinted at by the actors. Chávez specifically mentioned increased interactions between her character and other family members, but she didn’t share any details about what those interactions might involve.

ScreenRant mentioned a memorable scene from season one where Ariana first meets Ainsley at the hospital and is introduced to the Norris family. They asked how that initial interaction shaped Ariana’s future relationships with Cooper and her overall adjustment to the family.

I think we’ve only just begun to explore the relationships between the characters. Hopefully, the next season will show them interacting more, maybe even meeting properly. It’s really interesting how everyone’s different – Ariana’s family is so different from the Norrises – but they both really value family, which is a connection they share.

While it hasn’t been officially stated, it looks like we’ll be seeing the other characters in Landman involved with Cooper and Ariana’s storyline more often. We got a glimpse of this in season 1, when Rebecca and Nathan helped Ariana financially after her husband passed away. But so far, every encounter between them has been strained.

The conflict isn’t likely to resolve quickly, as Tommy discovers that Sonrisa, the company funding Cooper’s drilling operation, is actually controlled by the dangerous cartel boss, Gallino (Andy Garcia). This new information puts both Cooper and Ariana at risk, particularly if Cooper can’t fulfill all the financial requirements outlined in their agreement.

Despite ongoing drama, it looks like Cooper and Ariana’s relationship isn’t over on season 2 of Landman. Their connection is complex and will need time, understanding, and trust before they can fully agree on what they want for the future. However, things seem to be heading towards a positive resolution.
