The DC Universe’s movie slate began with Superman, and after Supergirl arrives in cinemas, Superman will return in the eagerly awaited Man of Tomorrow. There’s been a lot of speculation about the film’s story and who the main villain would be, with Brainiac often mentioned. Today, James Gunn confirmed Brainiac will be the antagonist, and announced Lars Eidinger will play the role. If you’re unfamiliar with Eidinger’s work, here’s a guide to seven of his most notable projects and where you can watch them.
7. Dying (2024)

The 2024 film Dying centers on the complex and often unhappy lives of the Lunies family. Lissy, Gerd, Tom, and Ellen are each facing their own struggles. Lissy is coping with her husband’s care and her own health problems, while Ellen is involved in an affair. Tom, meanwhile, is composing a piece called ‘Dying’ and raising the child of his ex-girlfriend. When a family member passes away, they are brought back together, but the reunion promises to be difficult.
Okay, so I just stumbled across this little indie film called Dying, and honestly, it’s a knockout. It’s currently sitting at a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics, which is pretty rare these days. The frustrating part? If you’re in the US, you’re out of luck – it’s not available here at the moment. But for my friends across the pond in the UK, you can catch it on the BFI Player. Definitely worth checking out if you can get your hands on it!
6. Jay Kelly (2025)

Michael Eidinger appears in the film Jay Kelly, which stars George Clooney as a well-known actor of the same name. The movie follows Jay and his dedicated manager, Ron (played by Adam Sandler), as they travel through Europe and unexpectedly reflect on their lives and relationships. Eidinger plays a German cyclist in the film.
Critics and audiences both generally liked the movie Jay Kelly, giving it a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 87% Audience Score. It played in some theaters in November and is now available to stream on Netflix, having debuted there in early December.
5. The Light (2025)

The Light is a heartwarming family drama centering around the Engels – parents Milena and Tim, twins Frieda and Jon, and young Dio. After drifting apart, the family hires a housekeeper named Farrah, who helps them heal old wounds and rediscover their connection after years of hardship.
Okay, so The Light hasn’t exactly been a hit with the critics – it’s sitting at just 14% on Rotten Tomatoes with 14 reviews in. It’s a bummer, but right now it’s not available to stream here in the US. If you happen to be in Germany and have Hulu, though, you’re in luck – you can watch it there. I’ve included a link if you’re curious!
4. Personal Shopper (2016)

The film Personal Shopper follows Maureen (Kristen Stewart), a young American working as a personal shopper for a celebrity in Paris. She also possesses a unique ability: she can communicate with spirits, including her late brother. When Maureen begins receiving strange messages, she encounters a mysterious figure named Ingo (played by Eidinger).
Critics generally liked Personal Shopper, awarding it an 81% ‘Fresh’ rating. However, viewers weren’t as impressed, giving it a score of 53%. You can currently stream the movie on Paramount+ if you’re interested.
3. Irma Vep (2022)

Based on the 1996 film of the same name, Irma Vep centers on Mira (Alicia Vikander), an American actress looking for a fresh start after a difficult breakup and feeling unfulfilled with her career. She travels to France to play the lead role in a remake of the classic silent film Les Vampires. The series playfully satirizes the movie industry and the lives of those who work within it, and features a performance by Eidinger as Gottfried.
I’m completely captivated by Irma Vep – the critics absolutely love it, giving it a fantastic 94% rating based on 59 reviews! While audiences seem a little less enthusiastic, they still give it a really respectable 61%. And the best part? I can stream it right now on HBO Max, which is amazing!
2. White Noise (2022)

The film White Noise centers on an American family navigating the challenges of daily life, as well as bigger questions about love, death, and what truly makes people happy. Based on the acclaimed novel, the story follows Jack Gladney (Adam Driver), his wife Babbette (Greta Gerwig), and their family, including Murray Siskind (Don Cheadle), Denise (Raffey Cassidy), and Heinrich (Sam Nivola). A key figure in the story, particularly for Babbette, is Mr. Gray, played by Eidinger.
Critics gave White Noise a 64% rating based on 264 reviews, but viewers haven’t been as impressed, giving it a score of just 33%. You can stream it now on Netflix.
1. Babylon Berlin (2017-2022)

Among Tom Eidinger’s notable works is Babylon Berlin, a series centered around Police Commissioner Gereon Rath (Volker Bruch). The story begins when Rath is transferred from Cologne to Berlin in the 1920s. While investigating a major pornography ring, he uncovers a much larger and more dangerous conspiracy. Eidinger played Alfred Nyssen, a businessman connected to groups led by figures like Wilhelm Seegers. Throughout the series, Nyssen experiences a decline in fortune, ultimately facing difficult and tragic circumstances.
The TV show Babylon Berlin is critically acclaimed, boasting a perfect 100% score from critics and an 89% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. All four seasons are currently available to stream on MHz.
