In a delightful twist, you can now watch all three episodes of Karen Pirie‘s second season streaming on ITVX! This time around, Karen finds herself in a more influential position, as she has been elevated to the rank of Detective Inspector.
While spearheading her team on an exploration of the 1984 abduction of Cat and Adam Grant, tension gradually escalates, peaking dramatically during a deeply moving moment.
Lyle found it emotionally challenging to shoot the scenes, as she herself mentioned during a recent screening and question-and-answer session about season 2.
Lyle mentioned that occasionally, the narrative can become quite self-referential. They’d incorporate elements into the story, not because they directly reflected their personal experiences, but because events from their personal lives might have sparked ideas for such additions. They’d intertwine specific aspects throughout the plot.
During filming, she would often approach me with, ‘This could be intense. It might bring about relief or prove challenging.’ In most cases, it turned out to be relieving. A scene that initiates episode 2 had a profound emotional impact on me; I cried profusely while performing it, and at one point exclaimed, ‘I’m actually acting!’

In the given situation, Karen and Zach Wyatt’s character, Phil, find themselves engaged in a heartfelt conversation as Karen experiences one of her most difficult moments.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I was privy to an interesting revelation: Director Gareth Bryn instructed me to dial back my performance for the next take. What moviegoers eventually witness on screen is actually a blend, a composite if you will, of both versions – retaining some of the raw emotion from the initial take.
Previously, Lyle shared with TopMob that Karen has unexpectedly taken on a leadership role. He expressed: “Although she seems reluctant about it, she has assumed the position and appears uncertain how to handle it. She possesses the power now, but seems unsure of how to use it effectively.
In the same manner as she did during season 1, she instinctively challenges the rules, excels at her tasks, yet she may not fully comprehend the reasons or methods behind her success.
In this position, she serves as the leader for all, yet surprisingly remains tiny, witty, sarcastic, and uncertain. Yet, she manages to gather her strength and keep everything in check.
Karen Pirie season 2 is available to stream in full on ITVX now.
