Lauren Sánchez Bezosstill remembers this touching interaction.
The journalist reminisced about her wedding to Jeff Bezos in Italy last summer, especially a touching speech given by one of her sons that brought her to tears.
During her March 4th interview on the Today show, Lauren, 56, shared that her child, who has dyslexia, spoke about a deeply meaningful personal experience. She admitted she didn’t know what he was going to say beforehand.
As promised, the pilot – who has three children: 18-year-old Evan and 17-year-old Ella with her ex-husband Patrick Whitesell, and 24-year-old Nikko with Tony Gonzalez – was taken aback when her son shared a significant childhood memory.
Lauren remembered her son, who was in fourth grade and struggling with writing. He’d finally written a complete sentence: ‘I can do this.’ She became emotional recalling the moment, explaining that for a child with dyslexia, writing a first sentence that late in school is significant. She enlarged the paper and hung it in their kitchen, and he often spoke about how much that moment meant to him.
She said his speech was the most touching moment of the wedding, second only to actually marrying Jeff.
Lauren deeply connected with the speech because she was also diagnosed with dyslexia at age 19. Growing up, she struggled with spelling, but it wasn’t until her community college instructor, Lori, had her tested that she finally understood why.
She shared that she kept her dyslexia hidden throughout her life, even during her time as a news anchor on Good Day LA. Only her co-anchor, Rick Garcia, knew about it, and he would assist her.

Lauren, who is also the stepmother to Jeff Bezos’s four children from his previous marriage to Mackenzie Scott, has openly shared her experiences, even writing about her challenges in her recent book, The Fly Who Flew Under the Sea. Now, she’s continuing to inspire her son and is also preparing for her daughter to leave for college.
In fact, her preparation has been filled with a few laughs and tears.
Lauren shared a funny story on Today about a recent dinner with her daughter, Ella. She said she doesn’t usually cry, but talking about college brought tears to her eyes. Surprisingly, instead of offering comfort, Ella burst out laughing at her mother’s emotional moment.

Lauren Sánchez Bezos welcomed son Nikko Gonzalez with then-boyfriend Tony Gonzalez on Feb. 12, 2001.
Tony played for the Kansas City Chiefs for twelve seasons before finishing his career with the Atlanta Falcons and retiring in 2013.
He’s now a football analyst, but he and Lauren separated when their son, Nikko, was young. Despite the split, they later worked together to raise Nikko as friendly co-parents.
Lauren told the Wall Street Journal in 2023 that it had taken around five years to reach that point, and that they were all together for Thanksgiving. She explained that while being friends with an ex isn’t essential, being able to communicate with them is important.

Tony and his wife, October “Tobie” Gonzalez, have three children: two daughters and a son. In February 2025, when Tony turned 49, his daughter Lauren shared a heartfelt birthday message on Instagram, calling him “one of the best dads ever!”
Nikko currently lives in New York City and describes himself on Instagram as a founder and someone working on AI-powered research. However, he’s also a model and recently made his first appearance on the runway at the Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2024-2025 menswear show.
In a 2023 interview with Vogue, Nikko described his blended family as surprisingly harmonious. He said, “Everyone genuinely gets along, and there aren’t any sides being taken—it’s almost uneventful!”

Lauren Conrad married Patrick Whitesell, an executive at Endeavor, in August 2005. The wedding in Santa Barbara, California, was attended by several of Whitesell’s famous clients, including actors Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Hugh Jackman.
Lauren and Patrick welcomed their son, Evan Whitesell, on June 22, 2006. While Lauren worked as a cohost on Good Day LA from 2011 to 2017, they generally kept their family life private, only occasionally bringing their children to public events.

But Lauren did share in August 2024 that Evan was following in her footsteps as a helicopter pilot.
Watching my child embark on their own journey for the very first time… it’s a feeling like no other. It’s about trusting that I’ve prepared them well enough to spread their wings, even though it’s incredibly scary to let go. It’s a whirlwind of emotions – terrifying, yes, but also unbelievably exciting and ultimately, the most fulfilling thing in the world.
In August 2025, a mom described as both proud and heartbroken – but also grateful – shared on Instagram that she had just dropped her son, Evan, off at the University of Miami to begin his first year of college.

Eleanor Whitesell, known as Ella, was born on January 15, 2008. Like her brother, she had a sheltered and private upbringing in Los Angeles.
Lauren used to enjoy driving her teenage daughter, Ella, to school. She shared with Vogue in 2023 that they sometimes argued, but other times Ella would confide in her, and sometimes she’d simply be quiet, which Lauren appreciated just the same.
Lauren, who is marrying Jeff Bezos in June 2025, expressed her excitement about her maid of honor, Ella, wearing a unique custom suit by Dolce & Gabbana. She told Vogue that Ella has a wonderfully original style and isn’t afraid to be herself.

Jeff Bezos and his ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, have four children together. Only their oldest, Preston Bezos (born in 2000), is publicly known. They’ve kept the identities and ages of their other children private, although Jeff has mentioned they adopted a daughter from China. The family of six was seen together at the premiere of Star Trek Beyond in July 2016, which was a rare public appearance.
In 2018, speaking to the Economic Club of Washington, D.C., Jeff explained that he values his morning routine. He enjoys reading the newspaper, drinking coffee, and having breakfast with his children before school, calling this time ‘very important’ to him.

In January 2019, Jeff and MacKenzie announced they were separating after 25 years of marriage. It quickly became public that Jeff had already begun a relationship with Lauren, who had secretly separated from her husband, Patrick, a few months prior. Lauren and Patrick both filed for divorce at the same time, and it was finalized in October 2019.
Lauren says that after she and Jeff moved in together, he started telling their daughter, Ella, every morning before school, “Don’t learn anything I wouldn’t learn!”
The Emmy-winning host shared with Vogue in 2023 that their family life is quite ordinary, mostly centered around their children.
