Law & Order: I Love You?
Fans of *Law & Order: SVU* were surprised during the season 27 premiere when Detective Elliot Stabler, played by Christopher Meloni, unexpectedly told his former partner of 12 seasons, Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), “love you” on the September 25th episode.
The surprising moment definitely shocked many viewers, particularly because of the long-running, on-again, off-again relationship between the characters. But the *Law & Order: Organized Crime* actor’s reason behind it might be even more unexpected.
The actor explained on September 26th, in a tweet, that the line was improvised. He then jokingly added, “Made the cut. You’re welcome.”
This scene occurred when the characters briefly met after the memorial service for their former captain, Donald Cragen (Dann Florek), and reminisced about their years working together.
Honestly, just hearing Stabler say that to Benson… it *killed* me. Like, he knows they had something special, something amazing, and even though it’s over, he wouldn’t trade those moments for anything. It wasn’t just a partnership, you guys, it was… everything. And the way he said ‘a pretty good run’? Ugh, my heart! It’s like he’s admitting how incredible they were together, and I’m just… living for it, even if it’s bittersweet.
After Mariska Hargitay’s character said, “We still do, just different,” they shared a hug. He then opened her car door and said two words that stunned the audience.
“Love you,” Stabler tells Benson. “Night.”
Naturally, fans couldn’t contain their feelings about the interaction between the pair.
