Law Roach always finds the right fit when it comes to dressing the stars.
The famous stylist, who works with stars like Zendaya and Bella Hadid, revealed some hints about the fashion we can anticipate at the 2026 Met Gala.
He shared with TopMob News at the Fashion Scholarship Fund Gala on March 24th that he loves seeing how people creatively approach the theme, explaining that ‘Fashion as Art’ allows for a lot of different interpretations. He predicted someone would likely draw inspiration from famous artwork, like dressing up as the Mona Lisa.
While dressing celebrities for major fashion events seems glamorous, it’s actually quite challenging. Creating a memorable look requires making a big impression in a short amount of time.
He described the situation as incredibly stressful, noting that all their months of hard work culminated in just a five-minute performance, after which everything was finished. It felt like a huge effort for a very short reward.
The stylist, known for his creative vision, mentioned he once designed looks for twelve celebrities at a single Met Gala. However, he always strives for something exceptional, particularly when working with his frequent collaborator, Zendaya.
He described choosing outfits with the Euphoria actress as a remarkably close collaboration, saying it felt like they were working on a single piece or an entire collection – it’s always unpredictable.
It’s obvious that 47-year-old Law has discovered his passion for fashion. He truly feels that the industry is essential to his life and he wouldn’t be where he is today without it.

He joked that he might have become a dentist if it weren’t for fashion. He explained that fashion lets you express yourself and pursue your dreams, even if they seem a little far-fetched. He feels it’s a big part of what makes him happy.
I’ve been following the Met Gala buzz closely, and Law isn’t the only one giving us hints about what to expect this year! It’s exciting to hear from people in the know, and it sounds like we’re going to be getting a lot of little previews before the big night.
With the Met Gala on May 4th drawing near—hosted by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour—curator Andrew Bolton shared that this year’s theme, Fashion as Art, will encourage celebrities to treat their bodies as a form of artistic expression.
According to Andrew, the unifying element across all of the museum’s departments and galleries is fashion – specifically, how people present themselves through clothing. As he explained to Vogue, this idea of the ‘dressed body’ was the starting point for the entire exhibition.
While we wait to see the stunning looks at the 2026 Met Gala, here’s more inside information about fashion’s most glamorous event.

Getting into the year’s most exclusive fashion event doesn’t come cheap. A single ticket will set you back $30,000, and reserving a table costs a whopping $275,000.
Okay, so thankfully, not everyone has to actually buy a ticket to the Met Gala! I mean, thank goodness for Anna Wintour, right? She’s amazing for giving opportunities to new, exciting designers and inviting them. And the best part? The celebrities she asks to wear a specific designer’s creations usually get in for free! It’s like, they’re walking billboards, so why would they have to pay? It’s all so fascinating!
Despite the high cost, many fashionable people still want it – there’s currently a waiting list.
Cameron Silver, a vintage store owner and frequent attendee of the event, told Page Six in 2017 that he knows people who are desperate to go and are fully prepared with outfits, even if they don’t have tickets and are hoping for a last-minute opening.

The ideal guest list changes, but around 500 people is generally considered a good size – cozy and manageable. Anything larger, like the record of 800 attendees, feels too crowded.
Sylvana Ward Durrett of Vogue explained to Fast Company in 2017 that they aim for a close, personal feel for attendees. To achieve this, they’ve significantly reduced the event size over the last few years, cutting the guest list by around 200 to 300 people.
Though the event is known for its luxury and glamour, the organizers aim for a sense of exclusivity, wanting only a select group to attend. Anna Wintour typically starts the guest list, with a goal of keeping the total around 500 people. As Ward Durrett explained in the documentary The First Monday in May, they want to maintain an intimate atmosphere, as that’s what draws people to the event.
Being invited to an event doesn’t automatically include a celebrity’s partner – the partner needs their own separate invitation.

Planning for this major fashion event never really stops, often beginning the Tuesday after the first Monday in May. It’s a year-round effort, with around 100 people dedicated to it, including 10 who work for Vogue full-time.
Ward Durrett, who was a director of special projects at Vogue at the time, said she relies on a single-page to-do list. It’s a constantly growing list that the team reviews daily, even if some items are repeated, to stay on track.
Her first priority was the tent. She then details everything needed for it. Creating this list helps her plan the entire event, ensuring nothing is overlooked.
According to the late Andre Leon Talley, a former editor at Vogue, Anna Wintour pays extremely close attention to every single detail. In the documentary The First Monday in May, Talley explained that Wintour personally approves everything, including things like the napkins, silverware, and lighting, and spends months planning even minor aspects such as the flower arrangements and ushers’ outfits.
She likes to keep everything about her outfit a secret, right up until she arrives on the red carpet. According to Plum Sykes, a contributor to Vogue, Anna Wintour is very private about her Met Gala plans, wanting to keep everyone guessing until she makes her grand entrance, as she told The New York Post.

Planning seating for a wedding can be tricky, but imagine how much harder it is for the Met Gala! The team dedicates a lot of time to carefully arranging guests, making sure people who have things in common are seated together.
According to Ward Durrett in The First Monday in May, a surprising amount of effort goes into deciding seating arrangements. They consider who sat together previously, at other events, and a lot of behind-the-scenes negotiation happens to determine where everyone sits.
The seating plan for the event changes constantly as it’s finalized. Ward Durett shared with Vogue that she quickly learned Velcro was a much better option than sticky notes to prevent mistakes. She explained that early on, they used simple sticky notes which were a disaster—they kept falling off, names got lost, and she was constantly rewriting everything.
Ward Durrett also suggests using a color-coding system for seating, ideally alternating between women and men. Surprisingly, a key rule is to never seat spouses together. She explains that the goal of these events is to encourage networking and learn about others’ work, and sitting with your partner defeats that purpose. Sorry, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds!

Every event has those less-desirable tables – the ones stuck near the kitchen or bathrooms. The Met Gala is the same, and where designers are seated often changes from year to year.
Wintour was heavily involved in every detail, even scolding her team for attempting to conceal the H&M-sponsored table in a scene from the documentary The First Monday in May. She famously told them, “We shouldn’t hide this table, it’s really not fair.”
While not high-end designers, brands like H&M (which advertises in magazines like Vogue) and more affordable options such as Topshop and Zara are increasingly being seen at major fashion events. H&M made a splash in 2015 when Sarah Jessica Parker wore a dress they designed specifically for her.

High-profile events like these almost always mean running into awkward situations with former couples and rivals. We all remember Selena Gomez, The Weeknd, and Bella Hadid at one event – it was definitely a tense moment! Organizers probably try to avoid things like seating Taylor Swift and Katy Perry together when they’re not getting along. But in the end, the success of the event as a whole is the most important thing, even if there’s a little drama.
It’s impossible to make everyone happy, and we believe all our seats offer a good view. Ultimately, we focus on doing our best, knowing some people won’t be fully satisfied,” explained Ward Durrett. “Thankfully, issues are rare. When they do happen, we make an effort to understand those customers’ needs better and improve their experience the following year.
In a striking moment from the documentary First Monday in May, Ward Durrett openly indicated to Anna Wintour which guests he hoped wouldn’t attend, pointing to three names on the seating chart with Velcro tabs.
Fashion critic Cathy Hawn wrote in The New York Times in 2006 that John Lydon, formerly known as Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols, was visibly upset with his seat at an event. It was at the end of a long table and considered one of the worst spots. He was so unhappy that he left twice, angrily confronting museum staff.
He eventually took his seat.

On an episode of The Late Late Show in 2018, James Corden playfully challenged Anna Wintour to reveal any celebrity she’d ban from attending the Met Gala.
She responded, “Donald Trump.” Both Donald and Melania Trump have gone to the Met Gala a number of times, but the last time was in 2012.
Oh my gosh, can you BELIEVE Tim Gunn got banned from the Met Gala?! I mean, seriously?! Apparently, Anna Wintour was NOT happy he told a story to The Post that made her look bad, and now he’s on the blacklist. It’s just…tragic! I loved seeing him on the red carpet, and now it’s all over a little gossip? Ugh, the drama!
He described the situation as chaotic, saying, “All hell broke loose” during a 2016 appearance on TopMob’s Fashion Police. He added that the conflict has been ongoing ever since.

Dinner will be served at the event, but Stephen Colbert once shared that everyone had to wait for Anna Wintour to be seated before they could start eating.
And, like every other aspect, Wintour is heavily involved in the menu planning for each gala.
According to a source at Vogue, Anna Wintour once prohibited certain foods from events because they could get stuck in guests’ teeth (like parsley), cause bad breath (too much garlic), or—most importantly—stain their clothes. This is why the appetizers served are designed to be easy to eat.
Anna Wintour generally likes the food at events to match the overall theme, but it doesn’t always happen.
Sean Driscoll, the owner of Glorious Food and the caterer for the Met Gala from 1995 to 2018, explained that serving lamb potpies at the 2011 gala, themed “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty,” led to numerous requests for alternative meals because many guests didn’t want to eat them.
People also care about how the food looks, and filmmaker Andrew Rossi, who directed The First Monday in May, was surprised by how much detail went into it. He recalled attending a tasting with Anna Wintour and watching her research food presentations on her phone – a testament to her meticulousness.

It’s unclear why Anna Wintour banned selfies and social media at the Met Gala in 2015—no official reason was ever given. The decision remains a mystery, despite the event already being known for inspiring envy online.
According to a source at Vogue, guests received a notice before the gala stating that photography and posting on social media would not be allowed inside the event.
The magazine didn’t offer a statement about the report, but a source shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the issue was simply about keeping guests safe and ensuring they enjoyed the event.
In the documentary The First Monday in May, Anna Wintour visibly disapproved of phone use at the Met Gala. A scene shows her learning that a male celebrity—whose identity was hidden on request—had changed his mind and decided to attend. She immediately asked Ward Durrett, “Can he please not be on his phone the whole time?”
Ward Durrett told The Post that Anna prefers classic, social gatherings. She enjoys dinner parties where guests actually talk to each other, and while they don’t constantly monitor everyone, they might politely remind people to engage if it’s noticeable they aren’t.
Even though Anna Wintour doesn’t allow photos, celebrities have often ignored the rule. A well-known example is Kylie Jenner’s bathroom selfie taken at the 2017 Met Gala.

The event has an age limit: you need to be 18 or older to attend. This rule was confirmed by organizers after Maddie Ziegler shared that she couldn’t go to the 2018 Met Gala because she was only 15. She explained to The Hollywood Reporter, “I can’t go, because I’m not old enough!”
The event is not suitable for anyone under 18, the organizer told The Hollywood Reporter. The new age restriction began this year.
Before 2018, the Met Gala had seen some remarkably young attendees. Jaden and Willow Smith both attended in 2016, at ages 17 and 15, while Elle Fanning first appeared at the event when she was only 13. Hailee Steinfeld also made her Met Gala debut at age 14 in 2011.
It looks like there’s an exception for younger celebrities: if their parents are going to the event, they can come too.

Anna Wintour has the final say on what everyone wears to the Met Gala, but attendees don’t technically need her approval—though she does know what everyone is wearing when they arrive on the red carpet.
According to Andre Leon Talley in The First Monday in May, it’s as if each celebrity was assigned a designer for their gown. Riccardo Tisci, formerly of Givenchy, who designed Beyoncé and Madonna’s looks for the 2016 Met Gala, explained that each designer chooses a celebrity who best embodies their artistic vision.
Generally, a celebrity’s outfit at an event is chosen by the designer who asked them to attend.

The annual gala always has a theme – for example, 2024’s was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” and 2019’s was “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” However, guests and designers have a lot of freedom in how they choose to interpret it – there aren’t any hard and fast rules.
So, how does the Met Gala choose its annual theme? It’s a year-long process that begins well over a year before the event. Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute’s dedicated curator, selects a theme that feels current and speaks to the culture of the moment.
I aim to focus on topics that feel relevant and reflect a change in culture, either happening now or on the horizon,” he told Vogue. “We always want a diverse range of exhibits—some looking at history, others at the present, and a blend of shows focused on broad themes and those dedicated to individual designers. We strive for variety.
Once he’s found a few good options, he submits them to the museum director for approval. Then, Anna Wintour gives her final approval about a year in advance.
The curator, a respected figure in the British art world, said it would be very challenging to manage without her colleague’s help. Anna is skilled at finding sponsors for exhibitions. The curator added that while they sometimes have ideas, they aren’t always the kind that attract funding, as sponsors tend to prefer more mainstream or popular concepts.

After walking the red carpet and climbing the famous steps, guests are greeted by Anna Wintour and the event’s hosts—this year including Bad Bunny, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth, and Jennifer Lopez—in a receiving line. This part usually takes a while, with lots of cheek kisses and polite conversation.
Guests then get a private viewing of the Costume Institute’s exhibition before it opens to everyone else. Afterwards, they enjoy a reception with food, socializing, and entertainment, including performances by stars like Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

When it comes to the Met Gala, a big source of planning stress is always the entertainment – booking and coordinating the performers.
I remember watching The First Monday in May and being absolutely shocked to learn just how much of a struggle it was to actually get Rihanna to perform at the Met Gala that year. Apparently, the budget was a huge problem, and it was a real nail-biter to make it happen!
Rihanna’s payment is roughly double what we’ve paid any other artist, according to a conversation I had with her team. They’ve made it clear they won’t negotiate a lower fee.
Eventually, Wintour was called to step in and figure out the situation.

In addition to the security provided by the Museum for the red carpet, celebrities can also bring their personal security teams.
The jewels are really the most important things to protect. In past years, celebrities like Lively have worn over $3.5 million worth of jewelry to the event, and Karlie Kloss once wore $2.5 million worth of Forevermark diamonds.
Because the diamonds are extremely valuable, Forevermark keeps the details of its security process confidential. However, a security guard is always present until the diamonds are returned safely. They also use extra security like RFID trackers and video surveillance, according to a Forevermark representative who spoke with TopMob News.
So yes, Ocean’s 8 definitely got that aspect of the Met Gala right.

Because most Met Gala dresses are either made specifically for the event or borrowed from designer collections, celebrities rarely get to keep them. Usually, the gowns are returned to the design house and added to their archives.
In 2018, Balmain’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing, partnered with Bono’s RED organization to auction off unique clothing items worn by celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Alex Rodriguez, and Trevor Noah. All the money raised from the auction went to the Global Fund.

At the 2021 event, guests had to wear masks and show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. This led rapper Nicki Minaj to decide against attending.
Nicki Minaj shared on Twitter that she’s being encouraged to get vaccinated so she can attend the Met Gala. However, she said her decision to get the vaccine won’t be because of the event. She’s doing her own research and will get vaccinated when she feels comfortable. She also reminded her fans to stay safe and wear well-fitting masks with secure straps, not loose ones.
