LEAK: It seems Diablo 4’s most requested class could be on its way — Plus, an explainer on how Chaos Perks work

Behind the curtains, there seems to be some development unfolding regarding Diablo 4, but I’m not referring to Rod Fergusson departing as lead.

Over the last several weeks, it appears that Diablo Partners have been consistently posting similar messages on social media. Initially, they shared repetitive posts such as, “Just had a meeting with Blizzard regarding changes for Diablo 4, changes that are fantastic.” More recently, there have been photographs of creators being flown to Blizzard Headquarters for “testing purposes.

Previously, there was quite a buzz similar to this, which indicated early trials for the Spiritborn class. This suggests we might be on the brink of another new class introduction. If you’ve been following the Diablo community over the past few years, you’d know that the Paladin is exactly what everyone has been eagerly asking for.

Ever since its launch, the gaming community has been persistently requesting and imploring for the return of Sanctuary’s armored holy warrior, and these requests have not gone unnoticed.

Even Fergusson himself has stated on numerous occasions that a more traditional character type is in the works. “There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Paladins,” he mentioned.

It appears that the secret has been revealed, or another way to put it would be the hidden details from the patch notes have surfaced. Thanks to a report made by Wowhead, it seems we might no longer have to wait.

Is Paladin finally coming to Diablo 4?

It appears that the recent leak of Diablo IV, labeled as “2.5x Paladin,” originated from Blizzard’s internal content delivery network. Given that Gamescom is upcoming and Blizzard is expected to showcase playable content there, it seems they were testing their game on external machines. Either someone failed to rename the build correctly or Blizzard might be playing a trick on us by not hiding this version well enough. Both possibilities seem plausible.

If it’s an intentional deception, it would be quite unfair given that the Paladin is the highly anticipated class, being the most frequently asked for after the game launch.

News from the Sanctuary Sitdown

Participated in the recent ‘Sanctuary Sitdown’, formerly known as Campfire Chats. Blizzard unveiled the complete reveal for Season 10, which included content disclosure, Q&A, and patch notes all at once.

The revamp of Seasonal Powers is no joke; they’re now called Perks and are intended to be more than just a name change like when Uber Uniques became Mythic Uniques. These Perks aim to significantly influence your build.

During the discussion, Blizzard developers described previous seasonal powers as mere icing on the cake – fun but superficial. They explained that each season, this icing gets removed and replaced. The new Chaos Perks, introduced with Season 10, aim to alter the actual cake filling. They’re intended to make you reconsider your skill setup, gear choices, and even core playstyle – a welcome departure from the borrowed power themes that have been criticized in previous seasons.

How Chaos Perks will work

In the end, you’ll find a total of 4 slots for special abilities, labeled as Unique, Magic, Rare, and Legendary. Each character class comes equipped with 16 perks overall, among which are 4 unique ones tailored specifically to your class.

For instance:

– A Warrior might have the following perks: 4 general perks, 4 unique Warrior perks (such as enhanced stamina or better defense), and 8 common perks that can be used by any character, like increased damage or quicker reload times.

  • Unstable Power: Basic skills always crit and overpower, but have a 3s cooldown.
  • Bronn Over Brains: Massive boosts to life, healing, and overpower damage, but -25% max resistances and armor DR capped at 60%.
  • Barbarian: All shouts are permanently active (with buffs), but reduce max Fury.
  • Necromancer: Core skills become ultimates (no cost, long cooldown), and ultimates become core skills (cost essence, no cooldown).
  • Sorcerer: 99% reduced max life, but damage hits mana before health (Mana Shield).

Introducing a fresh armor type, known as Chaos Armor, for an exciting shift in equipment options within the game. Unique items can now appear in various armor slots (like helmets, chest pieces, gloves, legs, or boots). For instance, the Spear of Lycander might show up as a pair of boots instead.

These new gear pieces will feature top-tier stats and an additional 20% enhancement. They allow you to create combinations that were previously impossible, such as equipping two unique helmets by moving one to another slot.

Other updates for Season 10 involve a major revamp of the Infernal Hordes, which I’m thrilled about since it’s one of my favorite game activities – though it had become somewhat repetitive. We can also anticipate ‘Chaos Monsters’ joining the enemy roster!
