Leaked Trailer for Long-Awaited Sequel Confirmed to Be Fake

People have been eagerly anticipating a new installment in the series, but the trailer that recently appeared online is completely fabricated. It’s become common to see fake trailers circulating – some are made by fans who cleverly combine old footage, while others are entirely original creations. Often, these are made as a loving tribute to a franchise, with creators clearly stating it’s not official. However, sometimes people create them just to deliberately mislead others and generate hype, and that seems to be what happened with this latest ‘leaked’ trailer.

A fake trailer for the highly anticipated game Shenmue IV appeared online in early December 2025, but the game’s developer, YS NET Inc., quickly confirmed it was created using artificial intelligence. While making AI-generated trailers is a common trend, releasing them as if they are real is misleading. This can confuse fans eagerly awaiting news about the game and creates problems for the developers. Ys Net had to spend time publicly clarifying the situation with a detailed message in both Japanese and English.

The Shenmue 4 Trailer Is AI-Generated

When a trailer appeared online, fans immediately started dissecting it, eager for a new Shenmue game. While the third installment didn’t fully satisfy, its ending left players wanting more. The trailer itself was a low-quality recording of a work-in-progress, captured from a television screen. A closer look revealed gameplay that felt a bit old-fashioned compared to today’s games. It initially wasn’t obvious whether the trailer was real or created using AI, but it turned out to be AI-generated.

YS Net has stated clearly that a video circulating on social media, which uses their logo, is not an official trailer for Shenmue 4 and was not produced by them. They emphasize that they have not released any trailers or promotional materials for the game. YS Net is considering legal action regarding the unauthorized video and apologizes for any confusion it caused fans.

That’s the current situation with Shenmue IV: Ys Net hasn’t released any official information or content about it. While fans love the series, there’s no evidence that a fourth game is currently being made. Shenmue III didn’t perform well commercially and came out almost two decades after Shenmue II, so the future of the series is uncertain. However, Yu Suzuki, the game’s creator, has said he’d like to make Shenmue IV eventually. Until the developers announce something official, it’s best to be cautious about any rumors.
