Is LeBron James catching an early glimpse at empty nest syndrome?
Following a win against the Utah Jazz on November 18th, the four-time NBA champion shared that his relationship with his son and now teammate, Bronny James, has changed since Bronny started living independently.
LeBron explained in an interview after the game that he and his friend don’t connect as often since his friend moved out. He joked about it, crossing his arms and playfully frowning, as shown in a video on X (formerly Twitter). ‘He’s doing well and has his own place now, but he’s a great guy,’ LeBron added.
LeBron James is lucky to not only share sons Bronny, 18, and Bryce with his wife Savannah James, but also to have forged a special connection with his eldest son through playing basketball together. He also has a daughter, Zhuri, who is 11.
LeBron said it’s been amazing to witness his development, especially since he’s still so young – he just turned 21 recently. He’s continuing to improve with every practice and repetition.
Okay, so watching LeBron and Bronny play together is just… unreal! They’re the FIRST father and son EVER to do that in the NBA, which is mind-blowing. Everyone’s been bugging him about when he’s going to retire, but honestly, he just said he’s doing things on HIS terms, and I love that! He’s not letting anyone rush him, and he’s going to play until he decides. It’s perfect!

LeBron James recently admitted he’s past his prime but isn’t ready to retire just yet. Speaking on the 360 With Speedy podcast in September, he stated he definitely won’t be playing for another 23 years, or even 10, and is aware his career is approaching its end, though he still has more to give.
Later that month, he also made it clear he wasn’t going to delay his own retirement until his son, Bryce—currently a college basketball player at the University of Arizona—turned professional.
LeBron stated in a September press conference that he isn’t sure when Bronny will be ready to play. He emphasized that Bronny is now independent and currently training in Tucson, and that his return to the game will happen on his own schedule, whether this year or next.

Many people consider him the best basketball player ever, so it wasn’t surprising when his sons, Jeffrey Jordan and Marcus Jordan, decided to pursue basketball themselves. After playing in high school, Jeffrey attended the University of Illinois and then the University of Central Florida, hoping to establish his own identity as a player.
In 2005, Jeffrey told The Washington Post that he knew he wasn’t among the best players in his state, but he was determined to prove he deserved to compete and wasn’t just relying on his reputation.
While studying at UCF, Marcus also played basketball, and he says his father was instrumental in helping him find his direction in life.
He shared advice whenever I needed it, but mostly he stressed the importance of staying focused and working hard each day, believing that effort would eventually lead to success, he told The Gainesville Sun in 2011.

Bronny James (born LeBron James Jr. on October 6, 2004) played high school basketball at Sierra Canyon in the San Fernando Valley and later went on to attend the University of Southern California.
Okay, so everyone always talks about how busy LeBron is with the NBA, right? But honestly, he always makes time for Bronny. It’s incredible! I mean, he’ll go to any length to watch his son play. Seriously, I heard about this one time – it blew my mind! He chartered an entire plane on his day off, just to fly back to Akron, Ohio, to watch Bronny’s Sierra Canyon play against his own high school, St. Vincent-St. Mary! Can you believe that? It just shows how much he cares. It’s amazing!
LeBron told reporters it was a really special and unbelievable experience to watch his son play, especially because the game was against his former college team.
In June 2024, Bronny James was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers, creating NBA history as he and his father, LeBron James, became the first father-son pair to play in the league simultaneously.
LeBron James’s son, Bryce James, began his college basketball career at the University of Arizona in 2025.

Oh my gosh, and to make things even better at Sierra Canyon? Zaire Wade! Yes, the Zaire Wade, Dwyane Wade’s oldest son! I’m seriously losing it, having him on the team is incredible!
As a big fan, it’s been amazing to watch our team get so much attention! Zaire, who joined us in December 2019, explained it perfectly to Yahoo! Sports – it’s like we’re constantly followed by cameras. He said he’s used to some spotlight, but this is something totally different – a whole new level of crazy! It’s incredible to see, and we’re just trying to embrace it all.
In April 2020, Zaire announced on Instagram that he was transferring to Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, Florida, because he wasn’t getting enough playing time.
Zaire was selected 10th overall in the 2021 NBA G League draft by the Salt Lake City Stars. He later played for the Cape Town Tigers in the Basketball Africa League and most recently signed with a team in the ASEAN Basketball League in April 2024.

Former football player Cha’iel Johnson might be surpassed by his own daughter’s athletic achievements. At just 12 years old, she won the girls’ 800-meter race at the 2017 AAU Junior Olympics, proving she’s a rising star in track and field.
She competed as a runner for St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida and later joined the track and field team at the University of Kentucky.

Shaquille O’Neal’s daughter, who is 6-foot-2, decided to play college basketball at LSU in 2020, joining her brother Shareef on the team. (They are pictured together here.)
Choosing what to do after high school is a really big decision, and I’ve made mine! I’m a little nervous about the future, but I’m also ready for the challenge. I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve committed to playing a sport at LSU with my brother, Shareef O’Neal. I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to spend the next four years as a Tiger!

In a December 2020 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Randolph spoke about playing for Michigan State under coach Tom Izzo. He described Izzo as a tough coach who pushed his male players hard. Randolph noted that female players were different, explaining they were able to connect with coaches on a more personal level and often appealed to their nurturing side. He said coaches had a soft spot for the female players and were more understanding of their efforts.
MacKenly jokingly claimed she’d won against her father in one-on-one matchups three times, adding that he doesn’t bother trying to defend himself.

Terique, the 6’3″ son of an NFL Hall of Famer, initially joined Florida Atlantic University’s football team as a walk-on in 2019. He spent most of his childhood playing basketball before deciding to focus on football during his teenage years. He first played college football at Contra Costa Community College before transferring to FAU.
After his college football career, Terique signed with the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad.

As someone who follows rising stars, let me tell you about this incredibly talented player! He was a four-year starter at Sierra Canyon, leading them to two state championships – a fantastic foundation! He then took his game to Vanderbilt University before achieving a dream come true in 2022: signing a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. It’s inspiring to see dedication and hard work pay off like that!
In 2024, Scotty Jr. signed a contract with the Memphis Grizzlies that allows him to play for both the Grizzlies and their G League affiliate, after a short time playing for the South Bay Lakers.

Dennis Rodman Jr., also known as DJ, was a high school athlete at Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach, California, playing both basketball and football. He initially played college basketball at Washington State before transferring to the University of Southern California in 2023.
According to his high school coach, Ryan Schachter, he wasn’t getting the recognition he deserved in Southern California, as noted in the Orange County Register after a 2017 game.
After his college career, DJ joined Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G League in 2024.

While Dennis Rodman’s son followed in his footsteps by playing basketball, his daughter, Trinity Rodman, chose a different sport: soccer. After her first college season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, she turned professional in 2021, joining the Washington Spirit. In 2022, she also began playing for the United States Women’s National Soccer Team.
In 2024, Trinity won Olympic gold as part of Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
